QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) How do you know the best trade possible improves the team even theoretically? Because selling high on Peavy and Rios is the right thing to do because it is going to be impossible to build a team around them that will win a World Series.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) You are giving your opinion that these guys should be traded, so you can also give you opinion as to what you think the White Sox should get back. It's really not stupid at all. And beyond that, what I said was "specific" is not that specific. Whether they should get outfielders or young (19-21 y/o) prospects, or more developed prospects (22-25 or whatever combination. We won't hear names until the trade is made anyways, so really, there should never be any point in speculating anything. Beyond that, we likely won't hear who the White Sox are shopping until the trade is completed (or nearly completed), so speculating on who the Sox should trade is also pointless. You get the best trade possible and that's that. It's not like going down the 2014 free-agent list and saying I want this guy or I want that guy.

Getting bent-out-of-shape about sending down a guy who has the potential to be the next Bobby Howry shows you how bad things are talent-wise with this outfit.

Rebuild: So Far Better Than Could Have Hoped For

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) I think fans view this season as not trying to win. Resigning players, getting involved more in free agency is usually a baseball fan's definition of trying to win. They've done this in the past and seem to fail at it lately. If they do a fire sale then it will be 100% proof. At least Marty will be happy. If they somehow get Jaun Pierre through those trades, Marty will be getting a season ticket skybox. Wow, you are full of it today. Just a word of advice leave the humor to the professionals, you aren't that good at it. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Then it's pretty stupid to say they have to be traded if you don't have any idea what they can get back for them. Not at all. It's like "Let's Make A Deal" for those not involved in trade negotiations. Just because you don't know what's behind the curtain doesn't mean you're going to get a bad deal.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) At the very minimum, you could atleast specify positions that you would target. You can get as specific as names or saying pitchers in A ball or even suggesting you want "an outfielder and a raw pitcher for Rios, and a starter and young position player for Peavy" or whatever. What time frame is that? Is that the best package between now and the beginning of July, between now and the end of July, or sometime in the offseason? What does that imply they get? Do they take on some salary and attempt to get a better prospect or two, or do they trade off and not take on any salary? You said "the best package." That is about as generic and vague as a response can get and is a response that appears to be avoiding a question. I think it's stupid to get specific on trades as none of us know the offers. When names start appearing I will give my opinion.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) That's part of the equation, but this isn't fantasy baseball. Guys get paychecks, and with the new rules with the draft, stud minor leaugers are going to be more difficult to pry away. So you still aren't ready to go out on a limb and tell us what type of prospects the Sox should expect in return, just make it an auction, and best bid wins. No reserve. Correct? Give me a list of prospects and I will give you my opinion.

When you don't have a long-reliever it's impossible to hide Jones. He's a bullpen killer right now. I'll take Toronsco, anyone at the moment.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) If you don't know the offers, how do you know their trade value is at it's peak? And if you are running a baseball team, what is more important, value of a player to your team, or value of a player to someone else? Trade value correlates very closely to on-field performance.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) He's set up for his Monday morning QB gig. If they trade them and it works out, he told you so. If they trade them and it doesn't work out, the Sox screwed up. There were better packages to be had. Ask him what they were, either crickets or "not my job". It's best when you don't get specific. Smardijza is "hot garbage" ROFL!!
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Careful, you don't want to go too far out on that limb. Really, it's preposterous to say well player A and player B is who I want back when no one is privy to the offers. Point is in wanting them traded is that their value will never be higher.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) The purpose it serves is to make your opinions worth reading otherwise I'm finished with your rebuild, tear down ,he sucks ,send him down , spend money ,I don't know who I want or even what kind of team I want posts. I want the best deal possible in return for Peavy and Rios.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) You know I am talking about your 1/2 job of the rebuild you are suggesting. On Peavy and Rios if I am privy to the trade offers for them I will give my opinion. Otherwise, it serves no purpose to say well I'll take player A.

Rebuild: So Far Better Than Could Have Hoped For
Marty34 replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:52 PM) White Sox fans are the only fans in MLB that get mad at their team for trying to win. If they were "trying to win" Flowers and Jones wouldn't be on the roster and Danks would not get a rotation spot over Santiago. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) It's like you are so involved in a fantasy sports team while the rest of the group is dealing with the current for real major league team. Yes. There are no possible replacements for Flowers or Nate Jones. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) I guess not since you can point out the problems but not the solutions in any specific terms. How is Phegley taking over for Flowers not specific?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) If he could only see that every time he posts. When I think of sports stupidy, outside of Bleedcoltblue, he is on the tops of my list. ROFL! Ya got me good with that one. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) What's that got to do with you finishing what you started ? You apparently have a lot of time to write. Go study other ML rosters and minor league systems and tell me who you want . I already know who you don't want. Actually, I don't have a lot of time to write.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) He's done more than shut down the Sox. Stats last year pretty good, stats this year pretty good. I consider him not "hot garbage." I guess it depends on your definition, but I don't really think it's an argument. The only time I've known Dick Allen to be wrong is when he writes in specifics.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) It is if you are rebuilding. There is no position in a baseball front office called 1/2 GM. If you want to play GM and rebuild finish the job. You're ok with Flowers and Jones?
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 28, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) It's so easy to say this guy sucks ,trade this guy, send this guy down but unless you're willing to say who to replace them with you have no argument at all .When the replacements don't work out the cycle starts all over again. Trade him send him down they suck. Generic answers like get position player prospects doesn't help. What kind of team are you building ? Speed , OBP, Power ? What positions player prospects are you looking for ? SS? Corner infielders ? Catchers ? Outfielders ? Current Major leaguers ? ML ready ? AA ? AAA? If you can specify you can narrow the list and come up with a few suggestions. When the players are as bad as Flowers and Jones, the who replaces isn't the primary concern.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 28, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) POTW! So you want to wait on Flowers when there is no reason to.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) Maybe you don't wait on Flowers much longer, but you definitely wait for and work with Jones. Nate Jones realistic ceiling is a 6th-7th inning guy. Send him down and when he shows he can get someone out again bring him back up. He has no business on a ML roster right now.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) Nice no answer again. But once again, a couple of guys struggling, Marty is in his Soxtalk glory. When they go on a roll, Marty doesn't post at all. He loves when the White Sox suck. ROFL, believe what you want to believe Dick Allen. My position on this team's players has been made very clear whether I post every day or not.
