How many years/dollars would you give to Granderson?
Marty34 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) I hope they never go into a full rebuild, and everyone that wants that probably will hate it. Just for fun I went back to my 2010 Baseball Prospectus and took a look at their top 100 prospects. They listed 101 that year. Strasburg was #1, Mike Trout #52. If you traded your entire organization for those 101 players, while you would have a couple of studs, I don't think you have a playoff team. Considering the state of the Sox farm system, getting rid of productive players for prospects will probably mean at least 6 years of being really bad. Why can't this year be the rock bottom year in a successful rebuild that includes dealing guys like Peavy and Rios? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 30, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Navarro takes it. Navarro with the White Sox - 102 G, 87 GS, 25-43, 6.06 ERA, 542 IP, 1.69 WHIP, ERA+ 76 If you must know, Dunn's OPS+ as a member of the White Sox is at an 84 OPS+ Navarro was traded for Valentin. Dunn by a lot. -
QUOTE (flavum @ May 29, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) 24-26 after 50. 19 games against the Tigers to come. We suck. Of course we do. It's beyond folly to think roster reconstruction is not needed.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 29, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) Costello: Why? I don't know. And I don't care. Abbott: What was that? Costello: I said, I DON'T CARE! Abbott: Oh, that's our shortstop! Put that in a letter to KW.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 29, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) According to the brilliant Marty that player's name is I Don't Care. Here's the thing and I've been pretty tame with this. Posters like you who focus on one position either are fooling themselves about the depth of changes needed with this team or have no idea about the talent-level required for a championship team.

Rebuild: So Far Better Than Could Have Hoped For

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 29, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) Marty34 & Dick Allen need to fight it out at this point, bare fists, kicks are okay, no takedowns thats ghey. I think this is the only logical conclusion that can be made. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2013 -> 07:46 AM) You're right Marty. The signing of Dye was horrible. They should have tanked the 2005 season rather than sign him. You mentioned earlier Flowers catching is a sign the Sox aren't trying to win. Good news, Avila is worse than Flowers. The Tigers aren't trying to win either. ROTFL. ROFL - Ya got me on THAT one. -

QUOTE (balfanman @ May 29, 2013 -> 07:04 AM) Why must it be that the Sox falter while the Tigers just get stronger and "all Powerful"? Why can't the Tigers pitching staff be the one that is "stressed beyond its limits"? Can't fatigue or injuries happen to Verlander, Fielder, Cabrera etc.? Maybe, just maybe the Sox could take 10 or more of those 19 games this year. You (and some others) act like the Tigers are this unstoppable force that just cannot be reckoned with. The Tigers have a good team on paper, but they are a long way from an automatic World Series winner. I, for one, still have hope that Sale, Peavey and company will match up just fine with the Tigers pitching staff (Reed vs. who.....really?) and our offense shouldn't be this bad all season. It's way to early for all of this doom and gloom, let's at least wait until the end of June. It's quite possible that the Tigers will walk away with the division, however, it's possible that the Sox, Indians, or even the Royals can win it too. Whats the most likely outcome of having a team with Danks, Axelrod, and a bullpen that's already in tatters facing the best offense in the AL 19 of the final 76 games? How in the world is this offense going to cover for that? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) Not really. Apathy will set in. People will stop caring or switch their interest to the football season. If you can't get fans excited about Cubs/Sox this year, I find it hard to imagine a fan uprising about the pitching staff going south in the 2nd half when everyone expects it based on the workload from 2012 anyway. ' Not talking about the fans, talking about the team. When the pitching cracks during that stretch they will drop like a rock. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) For no good reason really on May 28 of their first full years as major leaguers... Player A .157 ba, .289 obp, .269 slg, .558 ops Player B .198 ba, .271 obp, .339 slg, .610 ops Can I have the players ages?

QUOTE (TRU @ May 28, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) Then what, what? This team isn't good enough to win this division or make the playoffs. Its not hard to see that if you watch them play. Its pointless to not trade these guys if were out of it. And I am not saying give them away, if the value isnt there so be it but I don't think that's going to be the case. It's really not. That's what's so bizarre. What do you think is the likely outcome of having 19 of the final 76 games versus the Tigers. Think the pitching staff won't be stressed beyond its limits? When that happens all hell is going to break loose. -
Not watching game, but if it's not raining at the park now it probably will be in about 20 mins.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) Stand for what? Calos Sanchez at short anytime this year.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) One thing to keep in mind when trading someone because you don't think their value will ever be higher. It is a 2 way street. The guy you get may have inflated value as well. If someone here said the Sox could trade Peavy for the 2011 version of Jesus Montero, a lot of posters would think that was great. It would have turned out horribly. Casto and Molina are a couple of guys who have declined in value as well. The value that is most important is the value to the White Sox, and as long as the Sox are trying to win, trading Peavy will most likely backfire. Marty's best deal available may not be available for a year or 2. I don't see enough evidence that they are trying to win.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) If I had time, I'd go back and look for the exact quote, but IIRC he proposed releasing Alexei and playing Keppinger at SS. Win or lose, that ideas makes no sense IMO. Keppinger would be epically bad at SS and my guess is his frustrations would carry themselves into the batter's box. If you honestly think Kep is a stiff, then the idea should be to put him in position where he can succeed and potentially become tradable. That's not happening if you let him fail at SS on a regular basis. Also, if you plan on being bad, you might as well call up Carlos Sanchez and give him a shot at SS. Why waste innings on a guy who has 0% chance of being a long-term solution if you can attempt to develop a youngster? As for Beckham, I agreed with your proposal. If he could prove to be even average at SS, in the event of a selloff/rebuilding, you would have a capable replacement for Alexei and would open up 2B which is a much easier position to fill. Maybe the chances of Beckham sticking at SS would be extremely low, but they have to better than Keppinger doing anything at the position. The prospect crowd here would not stand for that.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) Yet you proposed making him our starting shortstop. I think that was in reply to who would play SS. I don't care who plays SS if they can unload Ramirez contract. Point being is, it does not matter.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) as usual, because MARTY SAYS SO! You think I'm the only one who thinks the guy is a stiff? ROFL!

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) That is simply not true though. He had an 85% strand rate, which was the 11th best strand rate in the Majors of pitchers that threw at least 50 innings. Nate Jones very well maybe better than I think. He isn't very good right now though and should not be on the roster. I don't think he, or relievers in general, are worth keeping around if they haven't gotten anyone out for 2 months. As I said, I'm not going to lose sleep if the Sox somehow lose out on the next Bobby Howry. They're just as likely to strike gold with some other team's relief castoff. It's the nature of the position.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) Marty -- the gist of what I'm saying is that regardless of how straight you think his fastball is, he is striking out nearly the same amount of guys, walking nearly the same amount of guys, giving up nearly the same amount of homeruns, and giving up nearly the same amount of hits on balls in play. The ONLY difference is his strand rate, which is currently freakishly low, as in no one EVER has a strand rate that low over an extended sample, and so that will likely regress with no change at all to his performance or approach. Basically, if his stuff has changed, it isn't showing up in how well batters are hitting him. I didn't think he was all that great last year, serviceable, but not someone I'd trust in game that needed to be won. Too many inherited runners scored on his watch for my liking.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Since May 15, Jeff Keppinger is hitting .317. F***ing Hilarious isn't it? What's his BABIP??? Do they have a stat from April 1 on for being a stiff because that's what he is.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) WTF does this crap even mean? You quote it all the time as if its the Holy Grail! "Keppinger has gotta hit, Keppinger will hit . . ", ROFL

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) The Sox have about $20-30 million coming off the payroll and an additional $25 million to work with through the new TV package. It seems to me, some tinkering can be done. The Sox have won one WS in our lifetimes. I always get a kick out of the impossible to win a WS with so and so or so and so won't be on the next WS team as a reason to get rid of them. Using that critieria, the Sox should have traded Frank Thomas after 1993 or 1994, because the amount of postseason series won with Frank on the active roster was 0. Carlton Fisk was a waste of money signing. Amount of postseason series wins with Fisk as a White Sox...0. Dick Allen was a bad trade. No postseason. How much money is that compared to the other teams in MLB?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) And there is nothing you can say which will change his mind or make him explain why. How about your favorite BABIP!! ROFL.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) You think it's impossible to win a World Series next year with a rotation of Sale, Peavy, Danks, Quintana, & Santiago? You honestly think there are no set of moves that Hahn could make to improve the offense enough to win a World Series? Yes. Impossible. Too many position holes not too mention Peavy being a year older.
