QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Did you ask the executive what the Sox are looking at with trades? Couldn't even get a number of players he expects to go out of him. He's usually pretty straight forward too.

I talked to a Sox executive yesterday who told me it's not Kenny's job anymore. This is a Hahn operation.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) I know their looking for bullpen help big time. I could see a Eaton, Owings, Anderson and Lamb for Peavy, Crain, and cash. Where do you suppose Reed's value is to Crain's? I'd prefer not to package Peavy and Crain if at all possible. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) You know, for once, I think Marty kinda has a point. I still think the reason to trade Peavy is that the sox are already loaded with pitching, but "making sure Jake doesn't get hurt again while we're paying for him" isn't the worst reason I've ever hear. And for once Balta, I think there's hope for you. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:44 AM) I think you're on to something...trading pieces that aren't obvious. And especially if Hahn is targeting a young cornerstone, #3 hitter. With our pitching we are 2-3 dominant bats from being a force. We could smash Detroit with 2 good bats. If they really want to get creative and can get that cornerstone #3 bat why not even make Erik Johnson (or Quintana) available? Point is Peavy, Rios, and Crain are only going to get you so much in return. To do this right they have to think outside the box.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Agreed with everyone except Reed and De Aza. Reed is controlled for 4-5 more years. De Aza is extremely cheap and so far has been pretty good at the plate this year. I think De Aza will fetch something good in return probably better than Rios. As far as Reed goes, I don't care about controllable years for a reliever, but that is what probably will add to his value. If they can get a better return for Reed than Crain they should do it.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Garza was hurt last year and this. Peavy's injury wasn't arm-related. Peavy is a ticking time bomb. It's simply too big of a risk to take when the Sox have so many holes to fill. -
I think the return for Rios will ultimately be underwhelming therefore I think the Sox should seriously consider dealing Reed as a way to improve the overall talent haul they get back at the deadline. Guys I would like to see gone: Crain Lindstrom Peavy Rios Ramirez Dunn De Aza Reed

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) No need to settle for anything with Peavy. He will be in the same situation Garza is now, next year. Peavy has to go this year given his injury history. I hope the Sox learned a lesson keeping Quentin too long. -
Anyone watching the game? First time I've seen Hawkins hit from the CF camera shot. Lot's of movement with his legs.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) For all the people pointing out that few players (or none) have had as bad a K rate as Hawkins early in their careers and been successful... how many HS draftees went to A+ their draft year? Were playing there at 18 and 19? Some sure, but very, very few. It is such a small group that, really, the comparisons don't mean a ton. It is also worth pointing out that, as of a few days ago (when we were doing the FS T25 write-up), he had K'd in about 57% of his first 70 PA (until just before his injury), but his rate since then has been about 36% over 150 PA. Just something to keep in mind. 36% is bad, but isn't nearly 57% bad. Being worried about Hawkins makes complete sense. Saying he is a "bust" at this point does not. It makes no less sense than having him rated as the Sox #1 prospect.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) My god, people are so quick to declare every prospect a bust. He may not be playing as welll as we would want our #13 overall pick to play, but my god, let's wait until he is 24 years old and still not in AA yet until he write him off. Has there ever been a player that has K'd at his rate that has gone on to have a successful career in MLB?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) Hawkins swings on 3-0, makes an out. HAHAHAHAHHAH. He's so bad. He's a bust. The Sox should move forward planning around that if they aren't already.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) I wouldn't mind Dunn and De Aza to a lesser extent because he still is having a pretty good year offensively. Reed hasn't even hit arbitration yet, and that's not how you do a rebuild. He is controlled for 4 or 5 more years unless you're absolutely blown away with a deal. I think to do a rebuild right the bullpen should always be the first to go because of how difficult it is to get consistent high-level performance out of relievers from one year to the next. More to the point on Reed though, I want a closer with better stuff than he has when this team is ready to contend for a championship.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Marlins have 35 wins. Astros have 33 wins. White Sox have 37 wins. We can very well be in contention for that number 1 pick considering were about to be major sellers at the deadline. Marlins and Astros will essentially have the same teams. Very much so especially if the sale extends to guys like De Aza, Dunn, and Reed which I hope it does.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) One of the things someone wrote on your facebook page really hit me. One poster basically said "I'm the mother of a teenage son. What do I tell my son he should do to avoid this?" I keep running through the options. Run? Martin did that, the response was "oh he's running", running or hiding makes him a suspect more. Approach the strange guy in the car who's following you?Crazy. Defend yourself? That just gives the guy a reason to shoot. Wait and let him do whatever he's going to do? Why on Earth do you assume this guy following you is a good guy and not out to kidnap you? The only things I can come up with are don't be "suspicious", which seems kinda difficult...and carry a gun yourself. You tell your kid it's an abberation because that's what it is.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) Uh oh....someone forgot to tell the players not to score here because that makes flavum mad He's right though. This is the perfect opportunity to bottom out. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) SIGH. Then why did Alex Rios improve so much at age 31 and 32 when he had a horrible season at age 30 and 28? He peaked. (Look at his offensive numbers.)
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) Ok, then offer another explanation for why he has made errors this year at more than twice the rate of last year? Magic? Diminishing skills.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) He'll still only be 32 or so, right? He might still be a #2 guy then unless injury, of course. Hammerhead has us agreeing, B. What does that say?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Depends. Last year it was stellar. This year he's had the same level of focus everyone else on the team has had and thus screwed up a ton. Last year he had only about a dozen errors and was a vacuum at SS because of it. This year he had a dozen errors through June. Nice to know you still make excuses. You have no idea what his "focus" has been.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:16 AM) Let me reiterate that I'm talking about the long term. I don't care about Quintana's 2013 WAR. I tend to agree with this. By 2021 Quintana will be a #4.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) He impacts a game a lot. Either he helps it a lot by covering a ton of ground at SS or he impacts it by making a boneheaded error. Doesn't that cancel out his impact though?
