  1. Just listened to the Hahn interview thought he provided an honest assessment of the situation. Bothered by Spiegel's insistent that they be more "transparent" in an obvious comparison to Theo & Jed. Hahn pretty much said it serves no purpose. He should have said all it is, is self-promotion.
  2. The Sox are going to win with pitching and power. OBP is not part of their blueprint. 12TH in league in homers at the cell is unacceptable
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Adam Dunn with an expiring contract is exactly what teams like Texas and Baltimore were looking for at this year's deadline Whatever that is, it isn't worth the $14M to keep him.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) Can you imagine what Adam Dunn would fetch with an expiring contract? It'd make it worth your while Yes. Not much.
  5. The market showed today that at least some of these guys don't have the value that the Sox believe they do. Why not clear money and open up spots to see if anything can be salvaged from this year.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Dunn, Rios and Ramirez will get claimed. I think teams are hoping we'll give them away for basically shared salary and a marginal prospect. I think if anyone offered even a marginal prospect these guys would have been gone today.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) Keppinger, Ramirez, and Danks almost 100% will get claimed. Dunn is likely to get claimed, Rios is unlikely to get claimed. Konerko also probably doesn't get claimed. If that's the case it would behoove the Sox to not pull them back.
  8. Danks, Rios, Ramirez, Dunn, and Keppinger? Would be nice payroll relief. I'd like to see an infield the last 2 months of 1B Wilkins, 2B Gillaspie, SS Beckham, 3B Morel to see if anything is salvagable.
  9. Can't believe De Aza would not draw significant interest from some team.
  10. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) I'm not sure why anyone would want to build around Beckham and dump Viciedo. Viciedo has been a better player and has a much higher upside. Beckham moves to short. Anyone can play LF.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) It better be some darn good prospects. That said, I think the Pirates go with Schierholtz to platoon with Tabata. What about De Aza instead of Schierholtz?
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) This was a hell of a deal for us. Peavy is an injury prone expensive starter and we got high upside prospects and our RF'er for next year moving forward. We also did this without paying a dime of Peavy's salary. Well done, so well done. I don't disagree with this. So far, I'd give Hahn a C+. Rios, Ramirez, De Aza, Reed, and Dunn need to go today.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) So, my main reaction is "it sure seems like the White Sox really think that the next premium in baseball will be on power bats". I'm not sure I disagree. We've targeted a corner OF power bat in 2 straight trades and we've drafted them repeatedly as well. Agree. Pitching and power are how the Sox try to win. My guess is they figure if a hitter's power develops so will his ability to judge the strike zone. Somewhat like Lee and Ordonez.
  14. Chances Rodon chooses Boras as his advisor?
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) ya know...I buy that theory. Is it me or has a lot of trades, free-agent signings, etc... broken around the time MLB network's MLB Tonight show airs the last couple of years?
  16. The conspiracist in me says MLB didn't want any trades announced today, preferring to save them for the show tomorrow.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) They don't know that at all. I keep saying this. I said it in the post of mine I replied to. This is 100% normal when you're trying to develop young players. 100% normal. Struggling at the start is what you should expect. Many of history's greatest players struggle at the start. People are so desperate for young talent in this organization, they want to trade off everything for that young talent, and then the moment it gets to the big leagues, it's cast aside and declared a failure because it does what every player should be expected to do. Flowers isn't young. Many of history's greatest are hitting well above .200 when they are Flower's age. Nice bump though! lol
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) I could see them interested in Peavy, but Kubel going to the Sox? That's not the direction the Sox should be going. Everyone new should be under 25. Unless by taking Kubel's salary they can get better prospects. I agree though in general no one over 30
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) The question is, if the Sox wait until the offseason, will Peavy's value go down even more? Yes because for one other SP's will be on the market
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) So keeping an established top flight starting pitcher, who you have under control for at least the next year and a half is riskier than trading him for an unknown number and level of prospects? Really? We don't even know what offers look right now to even start to make a statement like that with any level of confidence. We know the Sox are on pace to lose 100 games with Peavy, tells me they have some holes to fill. Why keep him and risk injury?
  21. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) These negotiations are important going forward. Could set an impression for how Hahn is viewed around the league. Agreed. As far as how if Hahn is doing a good job or not in these talks judge him on the return he gets.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) if they offers weren't better than Garza brought, good. There is no need to trade Peavy for nothing. Same logic was used for Quentin, Danks, and Floyd.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) Marty would, and then he'd turn around in 2 years and complain about how little we got for Peavy and Rios. Yours was an awful idea. Sorry.
  24. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) There's no way. He has no range at second and his arm doesn't translate. It would be a disaster. It's a disaster now.
