  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Is Viciedo ever going to learn how to hit righties Give him another 2,500 AB's before passing judgement.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) Well first of all there is no one named Jered Mitchell in our system so I wouldn't worry about that. What? Pointing out a typo!!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) If you're not saying bring him up tomorrow then you're agreeing with me that it's not time yet. I'd give Flowers until ~ the trade deadline. That's the level of shot I think he's earned. That's mid to late July. So if Flowers gets his average up to .215 and Phegley is still hitting .330, how can you make a change without Jered Mitchell being upset about it?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) And if and when Phegley comes up and struggles because he's barely had experience at the AAA level, then the White Sox have lost both of their potential young catchers. Congrats. And really, do you think that no minor leaguers pay attention when a guy earns a chance and actually gets it? A guy legitimately works his way up, earns the starting job, does everything asked of him, and then gets 2 months? You wouldn't see that an panic if you were at AA? I would. You're the one obsessed with rebuilding and dealing people away. Tyler Flowers is exactly the kind of player the White Sox should want to have on their roster if they're legitimately rebuilding. Jared Mitchell is going to go into shutdown mode if Flowers is "wronged." Absurd.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Flowers earned a shot to work through struggles for more than 2 months. That's the rule for a guy who works his way up through the minors and has success. He gets until about the trade deadline, IMO. That's what you do when you want to "Rebuild", you take guys who have struggeld and you try to turn them into something. Jones...what does his year last year earn him? And what if the pitching coach says he can get it together and his peripherals are pretty good (which is the case)? The guy on this team who I'd be more than content with benching for a few games as an actual "Get your head in the game" punishment is De Aza. Rios and Ramirez...they could use some rest at least. Flowers has earned nothing. If he goes somewhere else and turns it around, what have they really lost? A part-time catcher. Not going to lose sleep over it. Get Phegley in the lineup, no excuse not to.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) What do you do with a guy like Konerko or Dunn? You can't send them to the minors, you can only bench so many of them, and "Cutting them" = paying the rest of their salary, which isn't exactly a major punishment. I think he means a guy like Flowers and Jones.
  7. RBI Double for Hawkins in 4th AB. Took to breaking balls well out of zone, Hard grounder down third-base line on 2-0 fastball for double.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) You guys want high risk, high reward athletes who are the best player available at the time, can rise through the system rapidly, and become stars rapidly with no difficulties. And don't tweet too much about themselves. This does not compute. I don't understand. Are you blaming posters on message boards for the state of the Sox farm system?
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) So we drafted a guy that can't hit breaking balls AND can't recognize a bad pitch?? Who scouted this guy? He's coming off the DL so he should be cut some slack. I do wonder what the plan is for him though as in why is he still in high-A.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) So we drafted a guy that can't hit breaking balls? Great The breaking pitches he struck out on in his second AB were really out of the zone. Troubling that he did not recognize them.
  11. Another K for Hawkins. Swings-and-misses on offspeed stuff.
  12. Another K for Hawkins. Saw the AB, looked lost on back-to-back breaking pitches well out of the zone.
  13. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) but not the lineup I'd like to see him in. I expect we will finally see Phegley in late July or early August. I say we see him next home stand.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) I didn't think I'd say this a few weeks ago...but soon, we're going to have to find a way to get Keppinger at bats. He's arguably our hottest hitter right now. How are we going to do that? Trade Ramirez.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Hahn talked about holding some players accountable for lack of effort on the radio today -- related? I hate this kind of thing. It's a CYA move by Hahn.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) What's my agenda? I believe that the team can rebuild the offense in the offseason? That has nothing to do with refusing to acknowledge the failures of this organization since 2005. It's definitely been an ugly stretch for us, but let's not compare it to the Royals' epic run of losing. Once you opnely try to compare the two you've confirmed your agenda. Considering it's the 29th ranked offense in MLB, what are the chances the Sox can rebuild their offense in one offseason? It's just not going to happen. Just like John Danks was being counted on to be an upgrade to the 2013 rotation by some here. As far as comparing the Royals to the Sox, the Sox are a high revenue team they should not be compared.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) The White Sox have been a far better team to be a fan of than KC over those past 8 seasons and it looks like a neutral proposition for this season And what has that gotten them?
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) 7 is quite the peculiar number. Why not look at the last 8 seasons? Oh wait, then you'd have to add 11 postseason wins for the Sox. That would ruin your agenda wouldn't it? Everyone that posts here has an agenda. Yours is further from reality than most.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) That first deal is the kind of deal we should be targeting, not so much the second. The second deal you do if you really think Profar is a star, but the first deal is a scouting type where you do your homework on a couple players, make some changes, and suddenly two busts/fringe pieces/etc. become key players for your team. I think Crain could net us something nice if we do our homework. Also I don't know why we need to wait until July. We suck now, why wait around for some false hope? Why should we be so confident in this team & so afraid to build around some of these young guys? Crazy. Make the moves, Hahn. Turn off the XBox, open this thread, get some good ideas from us SoxTalkers who are equally qualified to make trades, and get on the phone. The sooner the better as his usage so far must have him running on fumes already.
  20. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) There is no evidence that they are capable of this. They draft poorly and I doubt the development is great either. That's why they have to deal for players other teams drafted and developed.
  21. QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Assuming we are going in that direction, I'd go 2/22. Konerko retires and we move Viciedo to 1B/DH. Viciedo doesn't hit well enough to play 1B/DH.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) Quit it yourself. As in, stop moving the goalposts to create another garbage argument that you will just duck out of when someone asks you a tough question. The tough question is can you go through a rebuild and put together an offense that is worse than 29th in MLB in runs scored while playing the softest schedule so far.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) A lot of us predicted this disappointment, but were waved off by the "rebuilding" crowd. To be fair, the Sox have only 1 more postseason win than the Royals in the last 7 seasons.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) ROFL Quit it.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) lol. That would be the years of taking lumps while the guys you got for them sucked at the major league level until they maybe figured it out. You think it's hard to replace Konerko or Flowers production this year?
