  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Seriously, what are you going to get for anyone besides Sale on the Sox roster that would be useful by the time they had a team worthy of the MLB logo on their back shoulder after a rebuild? Why do you whine about the Sox being bad, but only want them to get worse? Why do you turn to personal attacks?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) They already know the answer. I'd give him another chance, nothing to lose. He can turn into a stopgap that could allow you to get something for De Aza.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) Jordan Danks? Are you serious? Why not? Let's see if he can be anything useful.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) You realize that Carlos Sanchez is 20 years old right? That this is only his third season in America? We've already been incredibly aggressive with him, let him spend a few months in AAA and continue to develop without the pressures of being in the big leagues. It's not like he's a finished product. What does he or the Sox gain from a one month callup? As for Sale, it's not like we lost a year of abritration because of the initial callup. Regardless, not caring about a young player's service time is very short-sighted. You always want to turn your good young players into 6 1/2 years of service time if possible (unless they can help you win) rather than 5 1/2 to 6 years. There's a reason the Rays do this consistently. Theo & the Cubs are also doing the same thing. There is a lot of surplus value that can be attained if service time is managed correctly. Don't care what Theo and the Cubs are doing. For the White Sox the surplus value of service time is inconsequential when the big picture is considered. The Sox paid Chris Sale, they'll pay Carlos Sanchez if he is worthy.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) I agree...I mean there isn't much to gain by trading these young players right now anyways...you may be able to move some of the vets if they are desired by other clubs if things look bad at the break...but we can't possibly know these things now...this team is in a funk, but it's getting a lot of attention because it is coming right at the beginning of the season. This team is better than this, especially if Alex is going to hit this way again this year. There doesn't appear to be a clear direction. I don't understand how they can't find a spot for Jordan Danks. Platoon him with Viciedo and put him in center to see if he can become anything useful.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) Are we certain that Montero is any better than Tyler Flowers? He hasn't proven anything on the MLB level yet. Ditto. Wouldn't give up starting pitching prospects for him. Replacement for Konerko has to be a youngish player with credentials to be middle-of-the-order hitter. Yep, easier said than done, but that's what it has to be.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) You know they capped draft spending, and they're trying to find a way to have an international draft, right? Also, you know how it seems like every good young player is getting a long-term extension? ML-ready prospects are valued higher than ever, and you can't re-allocate major league money to get an advantage in prospect acquisition. Our guys aren't going to bring back impact talent in trades. You might as well keep trying to win at the major league level and focus more than ever on drafting and developing well. The only reasonable alternative is to completely tank for 5-7 years to try to rack up number one picks. Even that, though, is less effective than it probably feels because we're used to seeing Strasburgs and Harpers available when they usually aren't. Why spend money to try to stay in the middle though? Better to save resources as you rebuild. That option isn't perfect either of course.
  8. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) And it's premature to say he's a bust. 750 AB's for a LF'er is enough for me to feel comfortable making a judgement. If he goes somewhere else and develops into something I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) Enough. I believe you are the only one on this site that thinks Viciedo is a bust. He's not. He had a decent year last year hitting 25 HRs. He needs to hit right-handers better, and that will probably come. Besides, he's not a drain on the payroll. You don't like him, fine. But enough with the "he's a bust" and "platoon him with Juan Pierre." I think it's premature to say he's not a bust. You don't spend two years waiting on a guy to develop as a LF'er and his K-to-BB ratio says it all.
  10. The worst thing that could happen is he sticks with this approach and gets benched and maybe eventually DFA'd. Is that so bad?
  11. When you have multiple problems with the rotation perhaps it's best to have Santiago in the pen so he can be used twice a week. I doubt that he stays there the entire year.
  12. Buehrle and a knuckleballer on the same staff. John Gibbons is going to be going through the Tums at a record pace.
  13. What was that this offseason about having too many starters . . .
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) They're more likely to promote Courtney Hawkins to BIRM than that happening. I disagree.
  15. First Russian player in MLB - Alexei Popup.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) It will be core players traded, and not Ventura/Cooper/Manto Right. Ventura is Chairman Reinsdorf's all-time favorite.
  17. The Sox are 17-31 on the road snce July 1, 2012
  18. There are only three players on the current roster who are important to a rebuild. Sale, Quintana, and Santiago. Danks is fourth on the list because of his contract. Realize Viciedo is a bust, keep Konerko through a rebuild if you want, doesn't matter and do with the rest of the roster what you will. Deal by deadline: Peavy, Rios, De Aza, Floyd, Reed, Crain.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) Is the Dave Wilder thing one of the biggest reasons why this team sucks, and it doesn't get brought up enough? Absolutely. When your farm director was actively looking for players who couldn't play . . .
  20. I think given the fact that anyone can play LF and he had all of last year Viciedo should have a shorter leash than the whole year.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) If he's that bad at everything for that situation, then pinch hit Angel Sanchez for crying out loud. Would you have done that? I wouldn't have.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) Asking Alexei Ramirez to sacrifice bunt is putting him in a position to fail and then complaining about it when he fails. Ramirez doesn't hit the ball to the right side all that well either.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Marty you always test the bounds of reality Why trade these guys? This isn't Miami They aren't going to be on the next Sox post-season team in my view. Get something for them.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) I think the logic is "He doesn't hit 40 home runs, so obviously he's a good bunter". He's just not. You just can't have him do it. He has about the same chance of a solid single as he does of bunting into a double play in that situation. Do we know for sure that Ramirez was told to bunt? Maybe he was told get the runner over however you choose.
