I don't think Ventura is a good game manager, but that's not what this team needs at this point. They are more rebuilding than contending and last year Ventura showed he is able to create an atmosphere that allows players to play to their potential. Figuring out what they have is goal #1 this year.

Sale, Quintana, and Santiago have been solid If that continues with Santiago in the rotation, I will consider the season a success. Deal Rios and Peavy at the deadline.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) You want to take on that contract? I'm not sure I do. If the White Sox would turn down a Quintana-for-Verlander deal because of Verlander's contract this organization is really messed up.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:43 AM) Come on now, we're not taking Dunn out of the lineup. He hasn't been that bad, at least not since 2011. The problem is with De Aza, Keppinger, & Rios at the top of the lineup, guys with solid OBP and speed (at least De Aza & Rios), having Dunn's all or nothing approach in the cleanup spot is killing us. We need to flip flop him and Paulie. Let's take advantage of Konerko's significantly better contact abilities and not strand all these baserunners when Dunn fails to hit a HR. I'm cool with Dunn batting behind Konerko. PK is so slow that it's almost always going to take two hits to drive him from 1st. Having Dunn's all or nothing approach is fine there. I just don't see any value in batting Dunn in front of Konerko. 5. Dunn 6. Viciedo 7. Ramirez 8. Flowers 5, 6, and 8 are going to K 400 times. It goes deeper than than batting order.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) I don't know one Sox fan that thinks of themselves as a second class fan. If anyone fanbase is feeling second class it would be Cubs fans who pay near the top ticket price, come out in droves to watch a team lose year after year, decade after decade. Nothing is good enough for Sox fans. That is the opposite of feeling 2nd class. The first post in this thread?
-
Wow, the Tribune did a great job of brainwashing Sox fans over the years to make them think they're 2nd class fans.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) It would be weirder to ignore reality. Sox fans are a bandwagon bunch. I don't see how that can be argued. Also realize that it is you applying a negative connotation to that. You're not arguing they are bandwagon fans.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) It is the new reason du jour. Before it was prices. Then it was winning. Now it apparently is winning for a half of a decade in a row. It's weird to see a moderator of a Sox fan site take such a strident view against Sox fans.
-
QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) Again, it isn't about this. It is about the "fans" who said that the only thing holding them back from attending more games was price. That has been changed, and still (yes it's early) fans didn't show up. Hope the numbers go up, but if the impact isn't made, so will the ticket prices. Same attendance with lower prices won't last. To be honest, I could really give a crap if people show or not. I don't mind being the only person in my row. I like the space. I like using the restroom quickly. I like not waiting in line forever for my drinks or food. What I do mind is people (not you Marty) saying that it is a price thing when it is clearly more than that. Put a number on to what acceptable attendance would have been.
-
Why stop at attending games? I say if you don't give 15% of your income to the Sox you're not doing your part as a fan.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) Leaving Marty's hilarity about this somehow being the Sox' fault aside for the moment... it is APRIL, and the team just played two teams with possibly the smallest national followings of any other teams we will play. With most games being in the 30's or 40's weather-wise. Of course attendance was bad. And of course, it will get a lot better as the weather does and we play more popular opponents. Is this newsworthy? What other business do you blame the customer for sales?
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) Then why do you keep your season tickets? If the product has been so bad the last six years, I'm sure there are a lot better things you could do with your money. Thankfully, I have enough expendable income where I don't have to base the decision of keeping my tickets on on-field performance.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) If Sox fans don't want to attend games, the organization won't put as good of a team on the field. That's the way it works in pretty much all pro sports. The team has one playoff win since 2006. They haven't been putting out a good product of late and they've made a decent buck doing so.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Yeah, but how is that defined? I mean, it's self-evident that Sox fans don't consider this team to be good enough to watch, but there are many fanbases for whom a young, dominant true ace pitcher just coming into his own on one of the first nice afternoons of the season would be a big draw. That's not true here in Chicago. Are you suggesting White Sox fans be punished for not attending games? Reminder: the team had an operating income of $23M last year.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) Then I don't think you're included in the picture's target group I'm offended by it just the same. The onus is on the White Sox to field a team that people want to see.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Are you in the area and planning on going to games? If not, why not? I go to over 50 games a year, season ticket holder.
-
QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) So I made this pic. If it offends you, you are a crappy fan. Go Sox. I'm offended by that picture. Who are you to tell the White Sox fan how to spend their money and why is being a good fan dependent upon buying tickets?
-
Went to the Seger concert last night and when I saw the forecast for today earlier in the week I gave my tickets away. Kind of bummed I'll be missing this one now because a.) I feel better than I thought I would this morning and b.) it looks like it's going to be a decent day. Seger put on a really good show though.
-
Verlander will throw harder at the end of his contract extension than Felix threw today.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) I'll never understand why the organization likes him as a starter more than Santiago. I think we'll see Santiago in the rotation if Danks and/or Quintana need to be replaced on a permanent basis.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Throwing lots of 2 seamers, but he has been averaging about 1mph of velocity loss per season on his heater since he came into the league Caught a couple innings of their opener against the A's and his velocity was similar to 1st inning today. He doesn't "look" right to me.
-
Not breaking 90 mph. Is that first-inning velocity from Felix or reason why contract extension was held up?
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) any chance of a rain out today? Unfortunately, no.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 6, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) I think Wise playing CF is total crap. I know ADA asked for it to be this way, but Alejandro is a fine CF. I've seen a lot of DeWayne and he's average at best. I'm okay with it happening occasionally, since apparently DeWayne doesn't feel all that comfortable in LF and this is probably hardly a >1 time a week thing. Looks like he changed his mind a couple times, but this was the right day to switch up the lineup and it isn't like he had to change things too radically. See how left handed we can be! Yep, if there was one day I'd bench a righty, it'd be the day they face Felix. Keep Wise in the lineup v. righties IF he hits and as long as winning is important.

Lindstrom should not be used the next couple of days. That's why Jones should have been the first guy out of the pen down by 5. They lost the game and one of their better relievers for two days.
