  1. You beat me to it...I love it. Love him or hate him...you gotta respect the man. He works his ass off. Thanks McNeil for the giving KW, "the hardest sports job in Chicago" label. Unfortunately, it's true.
  2. I doubt we're gonna get Clement. With Pedro leaving the Red Sox, they will target Clement. That's two big spenders going after the same guy...the Red Sox and the Angels. Plus, the Braves are back in the Hudson game. We probably can't match up with them, unless we give them some big time prospects. I'm with Chisoxfn...let's get Perez. Lefty, gb pitcher. Or trade for a big one.
  3. I know many of you wouldn't like this (actually, either would I), but cotts or adkins could battle Grilli and any other SP for the 5th spot, because KW could hold on to the money until midseason to trade for another pitcher, like he did with Freddy Garcia last year. For instance, he could get a Ben Sheets or Tim Hudson, if he isn't traded before hand. Let the lambasting begin.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stat...context=batting His career numbers aren't very good, but he had an excellent year last year...with an OBP of .364. The year before that, it was .287 and in 2002 it was .371. A bit inconsistent, but an excellent 2B and would be a great 5th or 6th IF. can hit better than Valdez.
  5. I agree. Also, and Hawk always seems to talk about this, but what was the Sox RISP with 2 outs last year? This is what they were so good at in 2000 when the won the division. They could create the runs with two outs. If Harris, Rowand (assuming he bats second), and Pods could get on base, by bunting, hbp, walk, whatever, this team will have no problem scoring runs.
  6. AJ = 28 yo Varitek = 33 yo I'll take the 28 yo catcher any day of the week. Plus, he can get under the skin of the Twins when we play them.
  7. Lee = GAWN. Got payroll relief and a leadoff hitter and a damn good set up guy Maggs = GAWN. Got nothing for him...but whoever signs him may not get anything either. Konerko = here. Let's not worry about Kong, yet. He's still here and there are lot's of 1b out there. I can't imagine him getting much more in a new contract than he's getting right now. Buehrle = here. See above. Isn't he signed through 2006 anyway? If not, the Sox will make a fair deal (Like they did with Maggs), and if he leaves, he leaves.
  8. You're a lying assmunch.... Evidence --- http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=523864 You were willing to give up Diaz too. :fyou W00t!!!
  9. He definitely has more experience starting than any one of the others.
  10. Hermanson as a fifth starter is a fall back plan. We also have Grilli, Cotts, Diaz, Munoz, BMac. When ST starts any of these guys could be number 5 if we don't pick up another SP. And if we did the Williams/Pyrz for Konerko, we'd have to go out and get another bat with THAT money we just saved. I just don't know where you'd put it? Delgado?
  11. No, he wasn't, but he is only 28 and he has shown improvement at the plate and in the field over the last couple of years. It's hard to give away a player like that. I didn't like the trade at first, but after reading these posts...I'll be happy if they use the saved money wisely.
  12. too many choices...can't make one. But I'm hoping the Garland/Konerko to AZ, Vazquez to the Sox deal is off now. I can take losing either Lee or Konerko, but not both.
  13. Pyrz and Perez and Ginter. Oh my!!! I'd take that and call it an offseason.
  14. I'm just saying we lost about 20-25 a year with the losses of Maggs, Lee and the pickups of Dye/Pods. If Ginter comes, that will even out a little. What we didn't have was stolen bases or a shut down bullpen. we do now. We can throw a lot of different looks at an opposing team out of that bullpen.
  15. What do you like? Homers? Stolen Bases? A shut down bullpen? we just got two of the three. I hope KW stays in Anaheim another day or two so he doesn't miss the two to three hours on the plane when he can't use the phone.
  16. easy there buddy. ARow could be used in a trade. Slide Pods to CF and get Drew. It could happen. Just like CLee for Pods and Viz.
  17. http://espn.go.com/mlb/s/transanctionsprimer.html
  18. He made $5 mil last year. $6 or $7 mil should do it. Borass isn't his agent.
  19. YOu mean like Shawn estes? 15 - 8 with a 5.84 ERA last year for the Rox. I don't really want him, either.
  20. I thought I read that Herm said he should be ready around Spring Training. Edit: Yep, yep I did. From the Cubune....
  21. this could also open up a Rowand trade...put Pods in CF with dye in RF and Everett in LF. Not that I want that to happen, but I'll wait and see who we would get for him if you package with Garland and a minor leaguer...
  22. I think Dye can put up 30 hr, 100 rbis in the cell if he stays healthy... there's your run production replacement. Still have Konerko, Everett, thomas...not too bad. go Kenny go!!!
  23. Short list of Free Agent Starting pitchers (and their ages) still available from espn.com: (Leaving out names like Pedro Astacio, Omar Daal and Jeff Fassero) Matt Clement 30 Orlando Hernandez 35 Jose Lima 32 Derek Lowe 31 Pedro Martinez 33 Kevin Millwood 29 Eric Milton 29 Carl Pavano (hasn't signed yet) 28 Odalis Perez 27 Todd Ritchie (oops, sorry)
