According to jayson stark, they won't trade Kotchman for RJ. Or maybe it's a ploy. That's a lot of outfielders on one team.
-
Actually, i think Barry Bonds got one or two more than he did.

Hey mods, how about a separate insult thread? When an argument gets going...you can step in and ask them to go to the argument thread or get ignored or banned for a day. This is getting ridiculous.
-
sorry, my bad.

rashid posts a lot of false rumors on Sportsline, as well. They are fed up with him over there, too. but their mods aren't like our mods!!!

It's more like...he's the owner of Domino's Pizza, so he should be able to put more money into it.

Dammit!!! I want to be back in Champaign to watch the game and drink some beers!!! (I'm showing my age.........NOW!) Oh, to be at Bub's Pub and Pizza or R & R's. I-L-L!!!!! I-N-I!!!!! Suck it, Jay Bilas!!!

You know what they say about great minds..... ...no really, I forgot.

This is a tough one. Boras might be playing some major hardball. Beltran is the best 5 tool player out there. Better than the previously mentioned A-Rod, Vladdy, and Tejada. Each one of those guys does one thing better than the others, but Beltran's 5 tools are all above average. And that playoff showing...wow! He still won't get 10/$200, but he will probably get $15+. Just not from the Sox. EDIT: Sorry, posted right after Critic. Basically saying the same thing.
-
Yes, but only because Frank won't be ready to start the season. Then you'll have Lee, Rowand, Borchard as your starting OF with Timo as the the 4th and Everett as your DH. And maybe one of Escobar, Sweeney or Anderson as a 5th outfielder, but prob not since Ozzie likes to carry 3 catchers.

they can offer arb, but he can turn it down. They probably will offer arb, knowing he will definitely turn it down...then they can still get that sandwich pick and a 2nd rounder.

ESPN News Reports RJ Will be a Yank next week

what would the payroll be if we did this trade? Isn't Vazquez at 3/$34 mil? -

Not necessarily, because Gordon could close if Shingo starts to falter the 2nd time around. -
Not to show my age, but that kinda sounds like the screwball that Fernando Valenzuela threw, except for the lack of snap of the elbow. I'd love to see the "shooto."
-
Just because he is the second best SS on the market (and that's debatable), doesn't mean he is worth $6 mil. He isn't an OBP guy. Did you see some of the swings he took in the ALCS and WS? Looked like Uribe. And for someone who likes consistency...you should check out the numbers...not too consistent if you ask me. http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cabreor01.shtml

It isn't all about money. They sent instructors to Utica from the Sox Bulls Training Center. JR wants to give money, but also players that want to give back.
-
Say what you will about Reinsdorf when it comes to spending on players but the man really does give back to the community. I wonder what the total number is for charity work through the Sox and the Bulls? Also, considering the size of the Tribune empire, you would think you would hear more about the Cubs charities...but you don't. Charities...yes!!!

One year does not a streak make. Dellucci would be a good 4th outfielder, that's about it. Wright is still coming off arm troubles and may be a better pitcher now than he was before. Sorry if I'm sending this thread into hijack mode. i don't mean to.
-
Let me ask you one question. Is it possible, just possible, that the ONE GOOD SEASON you keep talking about is leading to MANY GOOD SEASONS? Not everyone can be Albert Pujols or Roger Clemens and make an impact as soon as they get to the big leagues. Dellucci could be an excellent outfielder if given the chance to start full time and not platooning with anyone. Or am I not getting the point?

Where is Ben Maller pulling this out of...

Illinois football coach

If Zook is offered the job, would he skip the Peach Bowl to talk to Illini recruits? Or would the name be enough to keep recruits? Let's hope Rashard Mendenhall doesn't pull his commitment. -
I say, go for it. Go 3/$18 mil. Maybe a voidable 4th year or a buyout. He's in the price range...and there's interest. Pavano doesn't seem want to come here. RJ doesn't want to come here. Wright's young and has a decent track record (minus the injuries). Almost all pitcher's nowadays have arm troubles. And sometimes those arm troubles can turn your career around. Go get him, KW!!!

Alrighty then, what about '93, '94, and '95. What about last year? When the Sox were winning, attendance jumped. When they lost Frank and Maggs, and started losing, attendance dropped. Magglio Ordonez and Frank Thomas are superstars, not as shiny as A-Rod, Jeter or Manny Ramirez, but to White Sox fans, they are (or were) superstars. Personally, I would still pay to see Frank hit.

Alright...we have three pitchers locked up to 2006. And Garland just signed his one year contract and if he doesn't get traded, he might get another extension. So, you would have four of the five starters locked up. That's called continuity. And continuity is good.
