I-L-L...I-N-I... I-L-L...I-N-I... -
Well, technically, this is a big market.
-
I'm guessin' we ain't gettin' him.
-
This fantastic nugget of worditude was uttered by Palehosefan in response to a signed first edition Tom Sawyer signed by Samuel Clemens would be a good conversation starter.
-
Next time try this: "Oh, the places you'll come..." Oh, that's sooooo bad.

For us fogey's (of which I'm one, since I was at the FIRST Time Warp Tuesday at CO's)...this was my routine: Mon. Quarter Beers wherever they were Tues: Time Warp Tuesday at CO's Wed: Pizza and Darts at Bub's or the Skydeck at the White Horse Thurs: Dollar anything at Cochranes Fri and Sat: Wherever the night took us. Sun: Wildcard or rest. Other good bars: tumble inn, if it's still there. Esquire, burgers almost as good as Murphy's. Oh, the good ol' days when I could still hold my liquor.
-
Hell, we gotz a president who stuffed hamburgers up his nose, too. And I think his job is a little more important than a first base coach. Also, if there is no learning in the majors, then why are there people like Leo Mazzone? Or Jeff Pentland? Why do we need pitching coaches, hitting coaches, bench coaches, bullpen coaches, and Man Soo Lee!!!!

Depends on "Das Boot." The last two nights have completely gassed both pens (except for Felix Heredia, who for some reason is still in the majors). Schilling has to go at least 7. Unless his foot falls off at that ankle, then they might take him out early. but who would you put in if he can only go 3? Wakefield? DLowe? Can't use Arroyo, cuz he's scheduled for game 7. A friend at work did this (Bosox fan): Here are the pitch counts for the last 3 games(sat, sun, mon of NYY-BOS series): New York (in descending order) M Mussina (Mon-105) J Vazquez (Sat-96) O Hernandez (Sun-95) T Gordon (Sat-17, Sun-26, Mon-19) M Rivera (Sun-40, Mon-22) E Loaiza (Mon-59) K Brown (Sat-57) P Quantrill (Sat-27, Sun-8, Mon-13) T Sturtze (Sun-25, Mon-13) F Heredia (Mon-14) Boston (in descending order) P Martinez (Mon-111) T Wakefield (Sat-64, Mon-38) D Lowe (Sun-88) B Arroyo (Sat-60, Mon-17) K Foulke (Sun-50, Mon-22) M Timlin (Sun-37, Mon-20) A Embree (Sat-14, Sun-30, Mon-9) M Myers (Sat-42, Sun-4, Mon-4) C Leskanic (Sat-15, Sun-13) R Mendoza (Sat-20)

Look at ME! Look at ME!
CanOfCorn replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I must agree. I, too, am sick of the shots of Red Sox fans praying, hats down over eyes, rally caps, etc. But, then I think...oh yeah, THESE ARE 5-6 HOUR GAMES!!! What do you expect Fox to do, show shots of McCarver every 5 minutes? Joe Buck even said, it was so late, the blimp had to leave. No overhead shots. Do you want to see shots of Joe Torre's beak? The hideously ugly Luis Sojo? Mike Timlin acting like a linebacker? Pedro's/Damon's/Manny's hair? I feel bad for Fox and the broadcasters (not to mention the umps who NEVER sit down) to be there and come up with things to look at/say for 5 1/2 hours two straight nights. -

I'll give you a reason. Because you are a Sox fan. Not a Sox organization fan. Not a K-Dub fan. Not a JR fan. A White Sox fan. Cheer for the team they put out on the field, because we don't have a say in who they go after, who wants to sign but isn't offered money, who's offered a contract but wouldn't sign here, etc. It's fun to debate over who the Sox should sign and who they should release. It's not fun to hear about how ownership sucks ALL THE TIME!!! I've done it too, so I'm guilty of it too. Still, Chicago has the WORST ownership in all of the major sports. I think that's common knowledge. So, we've been patient for 96, 87, 41, 19, and 6 years. We can be patient for a while longer until our ownership moves on. Maybe we should pool Soxtalk money and buy the team. I'll start...i've got $4.83 on me. -

Didn't we already resign Politte? And Maggs...I love ya as a Sox player, but as a Sox employee, you suck. -
I think ever since the Elder Bush said, "Read my lips, no new taxes," candidates are afraid to spell out or promise too much. I can never think of that quote without thinking of Dana Carvey...f'in hilarious.
-
I'm gonna have to go Kerry, but by just a little. There is always mudslinging at these things, but Bush came across, to me, like he thought he was behind. He didn't have the swagger of an incumbent. His (always) annoying smirks were directed right toward Kerry or toward the camera overemphasizing the fact that he thought the things Kerry was saying were wrong. Whereas, Kerry just wrote down his notes and smiled to himself. It just looked to me like Bush thought he was the underdog, which is not the case. Granted, I'm a democrat, but I want my president, who is running for re-election, democrat or republican, to have that "My name is Andrew Shepard, and I AM the President" swagger.

82... I think it forgot one stipulation: Subtract 1 for every year the White Sox finish in 2nd. The White Sox won the World Series in your lifetime, add infinity + 1.
-
I'm sorry, Jester (/looks at avatar)...what were you saying (/looks at avatar). Yikes, man, who needs hockey.

Gary Sheffield and his popeye arms.

Who was the guy that played SS while Furcal was out? Nick Green? I seem to remember someone kinda like M. Giles. One of those two could def lead off.

Any of the small southern schools that still play in a gym. Rice didn't have air conditioning and I think Tulane didn't either in their big run in the early 90's. Also: The Pit Utah Santa Clara BTW, does anyone remember the tradition where when the first point of the season is scored, the entire student section throws toilet paper onto the court? Does anyone remember seeing that and where was it? I somehow remember Western Michigan, but I'm probably wrong. -
I have a bit of a man crush on Wayne Larrivee. I was so pissed when he went to Green Bay. Larrivee, Arkush and Thayer made it easy for me to turn the tv sound down and the radio up.

Not a big fan of the EN spots, but they are memorable, which is the idea of advertising. But, if I may add my two cents, the best spot is the Michael Vick experience for Nike. Awesome!!! "That's not in the playbook, but it should be."
-
as much as I like Ron Turner as a person, the Illini need to find a Bruce Weber type. someone who has had experience winning at a lesser school...like Joe Tiller at Wyoming. Not an NFL assistant or even a former NFL head coach. Maybe the head coach of Boise State or Pat Hill from Fresno State or possibly someone from the I-AA ranks. The question is: Will Guenther be able to fire him? Isn't he signed through 2008 or something like that?
-
Lay off me, man. It coulda been worse...it coulda been Leon Durham the next year or Buckner in '86.
-
The TV guys for the Astros aren't bad, but they are a big time snooze. Although radio for the Astros, Milo Hamilton and Alan Ashby...excellent. I love Milo from my childhood days of him doing Bulls games, and yes, I admit it, him with Vince Lloyd and Joe Boudreau doing Cubs games...my dad is a baseball fan, not really for any one team.

A new owner.
