So, Ms Cleo...you wanna put a little wager on that? I'm guessing none of that happens.
-
Actually our priorities should be: SP RP Lead-off hitter/LH bat Back up IF/OF.
-
I agree with you except for replacing the bat if we trade Lee or PK. What we don't need is more home run hitters. With Jurassic, Frank, either Lee or PK, Rowand, Uribe hitting 15 and Crede hitting 15-20...we should be fine. And if Dye comes here, that's another 25. Should be fine in that area. Let's go get those pitchers.
-
That pretty much puts it in perspective.
-
No way for a backup do you give him $15 mil. How about 2 years/$6mil. He won't take it, but if you are going to make him the back up, you can't give him $5 mil a year.
-
I understand what you are saying, but we are talking about the MLBPA. They aren't exactly the most forthright group out there. Anything to get Donald Fehr on TV and to thwart a salary cap, they will do. What I'm saying is that, KDub is talking when he shouldn't be...if nobody signs Boras clients to what Boras thinks they are worth, he's going to get in Fehr's ear and plant the seed of collusion. I'm not saying what KDub did is collusion...I'm saying that he's is giving the player's association some ammunition and he should shut up about it.
-
Sounds to me like Kenny is saying he won't sign ANY Boras clients BECAUSE they are overvalued. If the owners pick up on what he's saying and don't sign them because of it, that's collusion.
-
No, non-tendering is not collusion. Let's say player A is non-tendered. Player A's former team isn't plotting with other owners to either a) sign this player cheaper or B) not sign him so they can sign him cheaper. You are letting that player go. Anyone can pay that player whatever they want. It could be more. Just like waivers. You can put a Manny Ramirez on waivers and ANYONE can pick him up if they are willing to take on the contract. But, when you are planting the idea that one agent overvalues the players he represents...that is bordering on collusion.
-
KW shooting his mouth off about Boras clients is one of the reasons why we have such high contracts. Let me 'splain: when Kenny says that, it give the MLB Players Association a reason to shout collusion. Therefore, they have a reason to go the bargaining table the next time the CBA ends and say, "Look at the White Sox, by not signing one agents clients because they think he overvalues them, they are leading the rest of the owners to believe the same thing." Voila, collusion. Of course, the owners do this for their own franchises when they are trying to sell. I'm all for a free market, if the owners sign a player to a contract, they should pay out the contract or sell it to someone who will. And vice versa, if a player signs a contract, he/she should play out that contract (see: Scottie Pippen). But, when these contracts start to price the fan out of the market with higher ticket prices, higher parking prices, higher concession prices, personal seat licenses, etc. That's when it has gone too far. I say suck it up, players, it's time for a salary cap...then we can sign all the Carlos Beltran's we want. But as a caveat, there is a salary floor (you hear me ExpoNationals, DRays, Royals). You could even put a Larry Bird clause in there if you want. But, please, no more talk of the White Sox not trying to be better. KDub is doingn the best he can with what he's got and all JR is is a mouthpiece for the ownership group. There is no tried and true method of building a team. The Beaner in Oakland can get the playoffs but not to the Series. The Yankees for the last four years can get to the Series, but can't win. The Angels built around a core of hitters. The Marlins got hot at the right time. The D'backs built around pitching. C'mon armchair GM's, which way is the right way.
-
It really depends on how bad they want to rid themselves of Rhodes contract. These are the A's we're talking about here...
-
If we give them some cash for PK...they could give us someone like Mark Ellis. Or maybe a B-level prospect. Just because the Beaner hasn't done something in the past doesn't mean he won't do something in the future. Although, if we can use Kendall as trade bait...bring it on.

Prediction: Which players will REALLY sign w/ Sox
CanOfCorn replied to CWSOX45's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here's who I think KDub will sign: 1. Polanco 2. Hidalgo 3. Matt Morris Here's what I think of these signings: 1. meh 2. meh 3. meh -
Well, hamburgers, with the meetings coming up, I'd certainly be interested in anyone being peddled. The question is...what will come of it. I'm guessing nothing, yet. But soon thereafter KW will make a BIG splash and start the trading market. C'mon Kenny...fleece someone good!!!
-
Although Alvarez did pitch a no-hitter. IN 1991!!!!!!
-
Vizquel: Dye: Alvarez: Hernandez: i think that sums it up.
-
I'd take Mulder or Hudson. I always loved that Zito curveball...but his win total has gone down and his ERA has gone up. I think we can all agree that to consistently win in this league, you have to have a pretty decent fastball as your #1 pitch (see Clemens, R., Johnson, R., Schilling, C., Martinez, P.). If your out pitch is offspeed, it better be damn good and damn consistent (see Foulke, K.). Batters have figured out, to a degree, Zito's curve. Although, I wouldn't be upset if we got him, he would be choice three of the big three. Still ahead of a lot of other FA's out there.

Now all of you remember that Bush won the popular vote with the most votes ever...you know who is second on that list...Kerry. He got more votes than Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton and Dubya the first time. Pretty impressive. My fear is that since Bush is a lame duck prez, he will try to force his WAY right wing agenda, which will do nothing but divide this country even more. Even though my state was a landslide for Bush, i still felt as though my vote counted more in this election than any other I've voted in. oh yeah, and about Alabama...let's just vote them out of the union...not the people, just the politicians.

I agree with many of you...no to the trade if it includes Anderson, Sweeney, or Fields. Yes, to Konerko going. But, here's the rub. OK, Garland isn't a number 1 starter like he was hyped up to be. Maybe he's a 4 or 5. But, what he is is an innings eater. He hasn't been injured, he pitched over 200 innings (which for a back half rotation guy is pretty good), and he's won double digit games for three straight seasons. Again, pretty good for a back-half rotation guy. Wouldn't trade him for Johnson...would trade him for Hudson/Mulder/Zito. PS...RJ ain't going to waive his no-trade clause to come here.
-
He worked his way up from no. 5 starter to no. 2 in the playoffs. granted the rest of the rotation imploded. But, might be worth it to send an offer...plus we have a lot of hispanic players.
-
I guess he isn't the irresistable force he thought he was. The Yankees can keep him. I want to see Georgie-Boy's payroll up around $300 mil and still lose. Ah, one can dream.
-
But as a boxer, he sucks.
-
I know. It would have to be a minor league contract. But, he and Williamson were the breakout stars of a couple years back.
-
Another option, also coming off injuries is Jeff Zimmerman, he was a fantastic set-up guy with the Rangers and I think had a decent year closing, too. I believe the Rangers declined his option or released him outright. JMO.
-
I understand what you are saying about the offense, but you are relying on two guys who are either/both a) getting up there in age, and b] injury prone as the heart of your order. if either Everett or Thomas go down, we are in BIG trouble. And as much as I like ARow, i don't think he's a 5 hole hitter. 2 or 6 is about it. If we could get Hudson and Byrnes for either Kong or CLee and some prospects, then I'd do it. But, we need to keep someone relatively young in the heart of the order.
-
The Sox will throw a competitive offer on the table...say to Carlos and Scott, "This is a competitive offer. And we have a lot of hispanics." Get shot down and then will go to the press saying we made a competitive offer. Do you smell what they're shovellin'?
