  1. Brad Penny: G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L SV HLD BLSV ERA 134 133 2 2 793.1 776 389 355 79 265 576 49 44 0 0 -- 4.03 Jon Garland: G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L SV HLD BLSV ERA 149 127 2 1 788.0 804 451 410 111 328 436 46 51 1 3 0 4.68 Neither one is outstanding...if you put Penny in the AL or Garland in the NL, their numbers would be even closer.
  2. This is not a slam against you in particular WHarris... But I am sick and tired of people slamming Kenny. Unless you're the Yankees, and last I checked there is only one of them, you can't MAKE anyone sign. If you give a decent offer for what the player is worth and someone outbids you, so be it. It sure as hell ain't Kenny's fault. If someone is stupid enough to give Clement 4 guaranteed years or $10 mil per, have at it. I'm not one for giving him that. Let's let Kenny do what he can. I want a solid SP as much as the next guy, but not by breaking the bank and handcuffing the team to get better. And for those of you that want Kenny fired...I want to know how you would do it better. You are hearing one side of the story...unless you are some sort of fly on the wall in the negotiations with the agents. Which I doubt. Buehrle said it right...let's not worry about it until it actually happens. If we want to discuss it, great, but enough with the... KW sux :fyou fire kenny
  3. If we match the dodgers...could we offer up Everett, Garland and Marte? Everett Garland = Penny Marte >> Brazoban
  4. Yes. Both. If we are including malt beverages...than zima has to be included as Kuh-rap. Oh, and I forgot...Michelob Ultra. If I want water, I'll buy Evian.
  5. Timo is an excellent value for a year. If Everett has a great first half and Big Frank is healthy and contributing, they can trade Everett for some pitching. He'd be owed something under $2 mil for the rest of the year and the Sox could even pick that up. Everett as trade bait isn't a bad thing.
  6. Crede at #2 might not be a bad idea. opens holes for him and he'll see better pitches. the only thing I don't like is he strikes out too much. But a damn good suggestion.
  7. I loved the Law brothers...they were awesome. but didn't I bat last that year? Or at least 8th.
  8. I was thinking the same thing...that and the bagging uniform...this ain't the NBA jackass.
  9. Two that I can remember drinking in college...Red, white and Blue and Black Label. AWFUL!!! By the way, back when I was at U of I, I was friends with a manager at CO's and he would tell me that the first keg was always what it said on the tap. And after that, unless they had an abundance, was ALWAYS Natty Light. Mmmm... My roommate and I used to go to Piccadilly every Friday and get a six pack of some new and different beer and then get a case of Dog Style...oops, sorry Old pile. DAMMIT...I mean Old Style. Cuz, y'know, after the first three, it doesn't really matter anymore.
  10. It depends on what Josh fields does this year...if he rips it up, then Crede is probably gone. If fields regresses...then we'll probably resign Crede and get Fields some time at 1st.
  11. I like it except no speed at the bottomof the order. Here's what I would do. LF Podsednik SS Uribe DH Thomas 1B Konerko LF Dye CF Rowand 3B Crede C Davis/Burke 2B Harris
  12. Plus Johnson for vazquez straight up won't happen...there will be something else involved there...Money perhaps?
  13. That would scare anyone into keeping that wallet shut.
  14. HOLY s***!!! YOU HAVE 12 FINGERS!!! AND 12 TOES!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1948399
  15. Boxer, you just contradicted yourself in your own response. KW is taking chances. He traded away our top catching prospect and our top outfield prospect for a SP. He traded for Everett and Alomar in 2003 for a playoff run...he traded for Everett last year because of injuries and Alomar because they didn't have confidence in Willie. Let's just say, for instance that we are 2 games back at the trading deadline and Ben Sheets becomes available. If we overspend for a #3 now, we can't expect to resign a #1 or #2 later. Plus, we can't MAKE people sign with us. Pavano's hero growing up was Schilling and the Red sox couldn't sign him. All you can do is be competitive and hope for the best. I know the White Sox are cheap. I know they lowball FA's. You just can't give everyone what they want...then salary's would all be in nine figures. I'm not saying don't sign Clement, but don't give the man $10 mil a year...he doesn't deserve it and he won't put the Sox in the World Series. He isn't that kind of a difference maker. Randy Johnson is. Tim Hudson is VERY close. Jaret Wright/Kris Benson/Russ Ortiz are not. And those three are overpaid. We can't keep asking our GM's to be aggressive and frugal. Sorry, can't happen that way. And with all the competition for the fifth spot, somebody will stand out.
  16. I understand what you are saying, but you are not in Red Sox nation. I don't think he is worried about what the team thinks...he's worried about replacing two pitchers, Pedro and Schilling (at least for the beginning of the year). The fans will get on him hard. Perhaps he knows himself well enough. Personally, I wouldn't want to pitch in Philly...those fans are brutal. of course, if I got 3 yrs/$30 mil...that could probably change my mind.
  17. It's not always the GM's fault. It IS possible that after actually scouting someone, they just don't believe these pitchers are worth the money they are asking. If we sign Clement to 3/$30 and he blows out his arm, than people start b****ing about paying a #3 starter $10 mil per. Again, sometimes the best signings are the ones not made. If the Sox can stay competitive before the trading deadline, and I think they can, there IS flexibility to go out and make another trade or two for an arm and a bat. Relax, it's time for some of our rookies to step up and i have confidence that they will.
  18. Nothing to do with Levine, but i just saw this on ESPN.com about the RJ trade: The only thing I keep thinking when I read this is, Uh oh.
  19. Sasaki, Garcia, Edgar, Olerud off the books. i think their only high dollar players were Bret Boone and Iiiiiiiiiiichiro.
  20. RJ to the Yankees is probably 80% done. There are really only two things that could hold it up...Brad Penny's physical or Shawn Green waiving his no-trade clause. The second one shouldn't be a problem because the new prez of the D'Backs, jeff Moorad used to be Green's agent. If they do this deal, it looks like Glaus and Ortiz weren't such awful signings...they still overpaid, but they are going to be pretty good. KW should just let it go and move on...and why are we out of the Perez sweepstakes? Where did you find that?
  21. Nobody liked Albert Belle...and the Sox signed him. Nobody liked Dennis Rodman...and the Bulls signed him. Nobody liked Bryan Cox...and the Bears signed him. If they think he could help this team, they'll say ok. BTW, isn't Davis Garcia's personal catcher?
  22. Quote of the Offseason...hard to top that one. NO TO CLEMENT!!!
  23. How old is Moyer? He must be pushing 100. Who else do they have? Piniero? Meche? I can't think of anyone else. Yankees West, is what it sounds like.
  24. Next time you think about how bad Reinsdorf is...just look at Angelos. Talk about hit and miss. two years ago he couldn't sign anyone...last year he gets Tejada and Javy Lopez...this year he couldn't sign a deaf person... Get it...sign...deaf... alright...bad.
