  1. While you can't compare players between sports, this reminds me of the contracts JR gave Jordan at the end of his career. At that point, JR was paying for building up the Bulls to what they were at the time, as well as not being greedy and demanding huge contracts. Clemens wants to be the highest paid pitcher ever, because he feels as if he is the best pitcher. And arguably, he is. He won Cy Youngs in both leagues...WS championships...I doubt it tarnishes his reputation that much...he wasn't the most likeable character to begin with. Just ask Red Sox fans.
  2. My "guidance counselor" in high school was Thomas Thomas. Of course, the only thing he guided me to was my ACT score envelope. What a worthless piece of ass that guy was.
  3. I was just looking at the FUNdamentals picture on the site and I noticed that they are taking down the ad boards behind it...Any thoughts on how that'll affect the wind patterns? It is facing East after all. and since they took the upper tank down a few notches, is this going to create a wind tunnel down the left field line?
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) Good news!!! What's our payroll up to now? Do we have any arb. eligible players left?
  5. Stillers...I think "The Chin" is gonna get his team ready for anything. Plus, they are playing in the Ketchup Bottle. Pittsburgh playoff football is crazy. I know the Pats play well under pressure, but i think there will be a letdown...and the way the Stillers secondary played last week, there's no reason they shouldn't win in a close one. I'm going to say 24-20, Steelers...Turnpike Bowl, here we come.
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Some old traditions are worth it. Fences further back, fewer home runs, bigger emphasis on pitching, unique playing fields. Being able to tell players apart more easily, is something I like. If there was a reason like, we want the players to be more team focused, I could get behind that. If it's for the sake of tradition, feh. I like no names on the back of home jerseys. A true fan would already know who they are. Road jerseys should still have the names on the back. I think the Red Sox do this. Granted this is a biased crowd, but I bet i could throw numbers out to you guys and you would get the player's name right 95% of the time, if not more.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) If it brings Jennie Finch to the Cell at all, I'm all for it. Only if she's dressed like this: Holy crap, she's H-O-DOUBLE-T!!!
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Agreed. That's something I like about the IU jerseys. That would be a cool thing to go back to now. Especially since everything is going retro. But the striped clown pants have GOT to go. Yikes.
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:43 AM) Worst possible situation for a Freudian slip to surface. I'm not certain how weatherman broadcast the news, but I have to believe they read forecasts off a teleprompter. Which only dampers his credibility. Guarantee this won't stop him from finding another position somewhere in the South. Weathermen don't reada forecasts off a teleprompter, they are ad-libbed. Slip or not, he needs to take responsibility for his actions. As for getting a job in the south... :fyou ...I live in the South.
  10. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) In other news, cubs fans won't have any clue who the guys on the field in front of them are. Did they before? The only player they knew were number $5.25 Old Style. I do miss Old Style...never thought I'd say that.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Guys, the Bulls are going to stumble. They're too young not to do so. You are going to have guys hitting the rookie wall soon, and the schedule is going to get much tougher. If they do make the playoffs, I wouldn't expect much from them. There is a similarity between the NBA and NHL when it comes to the difference between regular season and playoff games. They take it to another level. None of the main cogs of the Bulls has any playoff experience whatsoever. If they win a playoff series, consider it a MAJOR accomplishment and sign of good things to come. If they don't, which is more likely to happen, consider it a learning experience. Even MJ had learn how to win in the playoffs. However, the resurgence of the Bulls is great to see. They are heading in the right direction. But if "the sky is the limit" is referring to this year's team, I think you are going to be disappointed. You are probably correct, but if this team can stay in contention through the lean times, i think they have a good chance to go a couple of rounds. Here's why: because they are young. You have two types of players on this team...rookies and players that haven't won in the NBA. There are no losers on this team, I mean you jalen Rose. This team has nothing to lose. They are getting their first taste of winning. They are learning what it takes to win games. even the rooks tasted what it was like the last 6 years when they started 0-9 and 1-13. Yes, they are playing the bulk of these games at home. Yes, they are playing weaker teams. if they can make the playoffs, other teams could be very scared of these youthful Bulls.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) I've watched Dan Rather once in my life doing last year's Presidential Election..... needless to say, once was enough. If you thought THAT was bad, wait'll you see Katie "I AM the news" Couric. She infuriates me.
  13. According to the Sporting News...here are the potential 1b free agents. x-Doug Mientkiewicz, 1B; Kevin Millar, 1B, Dmitri Young, 1B/OF, x-Scott Hatteberg, 1B, Wes Helms, 1B, J.T. Snow, 1B Pretty weak. Full list Scroll down to bottom.
  14. Aaaaaaaaanyway, back to the topic. Kong should get a deal close to what he's getting this year. I just wonder if he's going to take it. i can't imagine him being paid upwards of $10 mil...unless he has another year like he had last year. Then, he'd deserve it. If Sexson can get it off a shoulder injury, Kong should be able to.
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) It's a lot like Homestar Runner really, just a little creepier and not a flash cartoon. Yer Hed a'splode.
  16. I hope they are right about his arm. But, even if he can't ever pitch again, he should be a hall of famer just for what he went through.
  17. HOLY CRAP!!! I just checked the playoff standings and if the season ended today, the BULLS WOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! You gotz to be kidding me. I know it's early, but to see the Bulls with a little number 8 next to their name makes me giddy.
  18. Kenny is no John Schuerholz (sp?), but I forgot how young he is and he is definitely learning. I will definitely give him that. And, except for the payroll issue, it looks like he has free reign and doesn't have to check-in all the time (Brian Cashman, anyone), so he and Ozzie can put together "their team." If it doesn't work this time, maybe it's time to move on.
  19. I bet he's peeked in every once in awhile...to see fan support or backlash. I'm sure he hasn't posted, but I would give it 80% he has checked it out. C'mon, people in power have egos and want to know public opinion, no matter what they say to the media.

    Country Quiz

    Dude...I'm like soooo Cali. WEST SIIIIIIIDE!!! You're California! In many ways, you are larger than life and almost defy description. You certainly love to shake, rattle, and roll with the best of them. You have a generally sunny disposition, but are capable of resorting to harsh extremes when pressed. You are more likely than most to become rich, or famous, or perhaps both. While you have the golden touch in so many regards, your respect for actors is a little over-zealous. This endless faith in actors needs to be terminated\
  22. The Hawk is like watching with your best friend. Sometimes i feel like he is talking to me directly...or reading my mind. He is a homer, but besides being paid by the Sox, he's been with this team for almost 25 years. That'll make anyone a fan. DJ on the other hand.......
  23. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Yes I remember Monica Seles, she was stabbed by a Steffi Graf fan. She was not stabbed for celebrating, or for inciting the fans. She was stabbed because she was "to good". Not sure how you can put Seles and Moss in the same category. If fans want to get out of control, they will. Sb I'm only using it as an example of a crazy fan. Actually, i think Moss is inciting the fans, which makes it worse.
  24. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) some suprising comments there....every cub fan i know just says 'how could you guys get rid of lee?' idiots That's cuz they know they're going to have to see him 18 times a year now instead of 6.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) The pigeons have to have somewhere to s***. Awesome!
