QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Wasn't that the Merv Griffith set? Not to show my age, but it was Merv Griffin. And some of my favs are: The one where Jerry and Elaine start sleeping together again. George and the tape recorder in the briefcase. Soup Nazi/schmoopy. The Contest. The Watch. The Armoire. The Dreamcoat.

I admit it...I cry when Pic dies. Damn Billy Dee and James Caan were good in that...especially since it was a made for TV movie.

Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim
CanOfCorn replied to The Critic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Next thing you know it will be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim presented by Arte Moreno... sorry, watching too much college football presented by my mushbrain. -
Thanks Steff... I think the part that confused me was the "operating costs for his Red Wings." Isn't that money already tied into the Wings? Or is he, like you said, using personal money, that he would have used for the Wings, like new contracts that can't be signed or new unis or something like that...

Just saw this on ESPN.com in a Sean McAdam article. We have had numerous discussions about this topic, but this kinda confused me. So, can he use money earmarked for the Red Wings to upgrade the Tigers or not? Or am I not reading this right?

Anthrax...I know what you are saying by having speed 1-3 in the lineup, and that's a good idea. The problem is, you only have one speed guy from 4-9 and that's Willie at 9. Dye may be above average in speed, but I wouldn't count on him. If you move Rowand to 6, then you have some speed at 5 (Dye), 6 (Rowand) AND 9 (Harris). That, to me, sounds more like Ozzieball. A team that can manufacture runs 1 through 9.

He gets dirty. He plays hard. He's a great baserunner. He can bunt. He's the guy that'll run over a catcher, if he can. Players love to play with him, coaches love to coach him and fans love to watch him. Stats aren't ALWAYS the best way to measure a player.

The Cardinals need a shortstop pretty bad. But they had salary problems last year and even though they dumped Woody Williams, that money has already been spent on So Taguchi...oops i mean Mark Mulder. I think it'll depend on where he feels he'll get the most playing time. It also depends what kind of a sell job Ozzie and Kenny do to lure him here. Selling him on "grinders" could get him to come here. I still think he'll be here.

God Bless Soxtalk, Everyone!!! Matt

That is hilarious...but they should probably mulch it....

I chose Gordon, but it's hard to compare these guys... Nocioni is a grinder Gordon is a scorer in the Michael Redd mode Deng is a great second fiddle Hinrich is the overachiever Chandler is the hustler Curry is the underachiever Duhon is the solid skill player I can see all of them being on NBA rosters for a long time.

Kevin Hickey?!?!?! PS...boo Anthrax for me if you see him...

remember, a frayed rotator cuff is what Mike Sirotka had. Haven't heard from him since he went to the Jays. I would love Miller, but we would have had to do what the Yanks did with Lieber...pay him a year to rehab and then he'd be ready for next year.

Uribe can play all three infield positions. I have been reading the following on these boards: Trade Crede and slide Uribe to third Pick up Vizquel and slide Uribe to second Go get Eck and put him at second and leave Uribe at SS. He's young, cheap, and improving. And the way teams are signing SS now, the next free agent class is going to average $10 mil a year. Hard hitting OF are a dime a dozen. If Rowand is having a bad year, we can slide Spod to CF and get a LF through a mid season trade. C'mon Anthrax, do you think these posts through or do you just post whatever comes to mind.

The market has already been set. productive OF, decent SP, B Reliever...what you are giving is way too much. Garland, marte, and Everett for RJ...final offer, take it or leave it. EDIT: If they want a prospect, they better ship some of RJ's salary along with RJ.

didn't he just sign a 1 year/$3.4 mil contract for next year? -

I agree with Schilling, I disagree with Pedro. There are very few true shut down aces now. Schilling, Randy, Clemens, maybe Hudson, Beckett (when healthy), Prior... i'd put Buehrle up against a lot of those guys. We have two VERY solid #2's, two solid #4s and if we get El Duque and he doesn't get hurt (a big IF), that's a solid #3. -

yeah, but look at the Red Sox. Here's their World Series winning rotation: Schilling Pedro LOWE WAKEFIELD ARROYO With the year that Lowe had last year, I think garland is comparable and cheaper. Lowe was 14-12 with a 5.42 ERA Wakefield went 12-10 with a 4.87 ERA Arroyo went 10-9 with a 4.03 ERA Garland 12-11 -- 4.89 There's your comparison. -

With an upgraded IF, maybe Jonny won't be afraid to throw his nasty stuff over the plate. That'll cut down on the walks and he could be a 15 game winner for this club. It's not easy to find a 24 year old, cheap, durable pitcher...go ask the Reds. -
Do you take third party, out of state checks?

ssi71, I'm purposely didn't call anyone out by name for a reason. I'm just sick and tired of hearing all of the b****ing without looking at all of the sides. There are many, many reasons teams don't sign players, it isn't always money. Just look at Dye coming here. That was a handshake agreement. As a baseball fan, I enjoy when a team comes in, offers a contract that they feel is worthy of the player, and sticks with it. i apologize for calling out peoples loyalties, but c'mon, reading some of these posts where someone backtracks, that's just not right. I'm all for people giving their opinions, in fact, I love reading what people have to say. If it is well written and well thought out. It's the flying off the handle posts that drive me nuts and wonder why they still like this team. Thank you Yas for writing what I was thinking, but couldn't express because I was so angry.
-
Just curious, but do you actually think that if there was another GM here that he would be making different moves. Doubt it seriously. It ain't the GM folks. I actually think Kenny does a good job with what he's given. So, all you b****ers get the hell off the bus and turn in your White Sox gear, cuz I, for one, am sick of hearing all of this. What's the damn problem? You want to root for a team that signs everyone, go root for the Yankees. I'll gladly take your season tickets.

It works, it just tastes like crap. Maybe if you put some honey in it, it wouldn't taste so bad.

This is a spot where I don't mind overpaying ( ). Give him $2.5 or $3 mil. this guy, if healthy, is a horse. If he gets above $5 mil, though, forget it.
