  1. The ACC is good, but they are doing what they do every year. Beat the hell out of each other. What's really telling, though, is how well Miami and Virginia Tech are doing. They have some tough wins. And these are NOT basketball schools, but they are not bending over and taking it up the tailpipe. As for my final four: Illinois, Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma State.
  2. I have a running bet with a friend of mine for $10. we are even, so far. But, I'd take that bet. The Cubs have off and on field issues that I don't think they will be able to get over. it's going to be REAL close. i'm guessing they will be very close to 90 wins. Good luck, Wanne.
  3. Looks like Rozner won't be working for the Trib any time soon. Way to go, Barry!!!
  4. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Yeah I know that but Illinois/Wiscy just doesn't seem like it would get the national acclaim to be top 7 all time. They hyped the hamburgers out of that game.
  5. 1. Blackhawks, by far 2. Old Hartford Whalers 3. Pittsburgh Steelers 4. Manitoba/Minnesota Moose 5. Amarillo Gorillas 6. Chattanooga Lookouts 7. White Sox
  6. According to the Belleville News-Democrat: http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/sports/10755801.htm
  7. Looks like someone just got flash. Ooooo...scary bird the size of my hand.
  8. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Agreed. He's just doing his job. He should be in Vegas on a double ticket with David Copperfield. "Watch me pull a fat contract out of my hat." I think he's a hypnotist. "Mr. Dombrowski, when I snap my fingers, you will awaken and see Magglio Ordonez as a player on caliber with Alex Rodriguez. You will forget all about his injured knee. You will offer a contract worth $5 million over 5 years. You will then hear my counter offer of 5/$70 million, accept it, and feel a great sense of accomplishment. Oh yeah, and you will go out to center field and act like a chicken after every home win." SNAP!
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) ....and in his finest role, as the aging hotshot ballplayer who arrived looking for hits but leaves finding something MUCH more important...... TOM CRUISE IS...... SHORT CENTER" ...this movie has not yet been rated.... ( EDITED TO ADD that you and I both realize that Tom Cruise would never play the lead role in any movie with SHORT in the title.... ) I think for him to star in it, there would have to be some kind of backstory about his father being the best in whatever he now does...see: Top Gun, Days of Thunder, A Few Good Men. I just hope this movie does for softball what The Cutting Edge did for figure skating, Side Out did for beach volleyball, Over the Top did for Professional Arm Wrestling and American Flyers did for bike racing. One can only hope.
  10. I feel sick. :puke See? Dombrowski is an idiot if he does this. So is Ilitch. I hope when the collective bargaining agreement is up they don't invite these two jokers or Fred Wilpon to the table. The might just pull a JR/Albert Belle. WOW.
  11. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) This may be premature. but, I've noticed apattern with all the Sox FA signings this offseason. Dye, El Duque, Hermanson, and Iguchi all got 2 year deals with some containg a 3rd year option. Do you see this as The Sox going for it all the next 2 years and then after that rebuidling? I'm not sure off the top of my head as far as Buerhle, freddy, and Contreras when their current contracts expire. Just looking for your thoughts............ Doesn't it have something to do with the Collective Bargaining Agreement? I think it's up after 2006.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Jose Vidro. Definitely not a match there. I came up with these teams; Tampa Bay Pittsburgh Houston (unlikely since they want Soriano) St. Louis Houston will not give up Chris Burke or Brandon Backe for Soriano. And Chris Burke is the next Craig Biggio. I saw him play in Round Rock and he is going to be a fabulous 2b. He doesn't have the power Biggio does, but, he does everything you want a leadoff to do. Who does Pitt have to play 2b? EDIT: Bobby Hill. yeah, they need an upgrade.
  13. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) What about "Win more games than the Twins and Indians"? Don't forget the Tigers and Royals!!!
  14. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) I just hope we lives up to the hype. Just ask Jon Garland and Willie Harris what happens when you don't live up to Sox fans expectations right away. Hopefully he has some thick skin. 2 yrs/5 mil isn't a lot of jack. Well, it is to me, but not in the grand scheme of MLB things. If he doesn't work out, we have a decent platoon 2b and possibly SS. Plus, someone out there would take him in a trade if it gets to that. So, I'm not worried at all.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) That's pretty much what I was thinking. Aren't the ARod and Chan Ho Park deals enough to convince them not to mess around with Borass? Heck I am going to go waaaaaaay out on a limb here and say a team would be smarter to trade for Sammy Sosa than to sign Maggs to a long term deal. At least with Sosa you know what you are going to with Scammy. Maggs, who knows. Plus dealing with Borass you know you can't trust what he saids... I completely agree. Sammy is not coming off a major injury, his numbers are declining, but you know you will get at least 35 hrs out of him and probably a .250 avg. Maggs might not play until well into the season. Maggs is making a lot of demands instead of taking a Nomar-like contract, proving his worth and going back out there to get the big paycheck next year.
  16. Sox, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks (when/if they play), DePaul, Chicago Bandits (mmm...Jennie Finch).
  17. QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) Isnt that basically saying Illinois is unbeatable?? Why would they ever go into a game and NOT want to beat someone? Of course Illinois is beatable, so is BC and Duke. What I meant is the Illini know they can go into hostile environments, when most people think they will lose and come away with a win. Confidence. It's all confidence. Except for diehard Illini fans, i would guess that most press and people who aren't as familiar with the Big Ten had Wisconsin winning. Illinois learned not to panic, not to rely on one or two or three players, and that they can win anytime, anywhere. Not saying they will, but that they can.
  18. There are NO unbeatable teams in college basketball. None. What this game proved is that Illinois can beat any team if it wants to. They have stick-to-it-iveness. When a Jack Ingram can come off the bench and hit two big threes...that shows a team that they don't have to rely on Luther Head or Deron Williams or anyone to win games. But, these last two wins taught the Illini that they can win close games when they aren't playing well and in a tough road venue when they are losing late. These wins are building confidence and even if they lose at MSU or at Iowa or to whomever, this team knows they can win anywhere.
  19. QUOTE(Man Of Steel @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Phoenix Nashville Columbus Florida Buffalo are the teams that I think need to be done away with What they should do is move Phoenix back to Winnipeg, move Nashville to Quebec City, move Florida to Hamilton, Dallas back to Minnesota and contract the Wild and move Carolina back to Hartford. Go WHALE!!! And move Tampa Bay 'Ning to Regina, just so we can say "ruh-GI-nuh."
  20. Ohhhh, my head hurts. Where were you when I was in college, Steff? I coulda used this as an excuse for bad spelling. :banghead
  21. I like the idea, not 3500, but an expansion. Part of the reason there is such a huge cost for 50 staffers is to represent 667,000 people. One person can't know all the needs. Especially here in Texas. If you can see a congressional map, check out Austin. It's been split three ways with two of the districts stretching to Mexico...that's at least a 4 hour drive. One person can't know the needs of mostly liberal Austin AND mostly Mexican Brownsville. this would also cut down the cost of running for the House. Less travel, fewer people running (which could also have it's downsides). I'm for it!!! If just to get Tom DeLay out of any possible office.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Pain. I pity the fool who don't get the reference.
  23. People keep talking about Wiscy's tempo, but nobody talks about the Illini's tempo, which is fast and furious. If they can run and run early, they will run the slow footed Badgers out of the Kohl Center. Since nobody else has the balls to predict a score I'll say 72-64 Illini...but only because of late free throws. It'll be closer than that.
