Mark Prior still feels pain in his elbow
CanOfCorn replied to Jabroni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
When he came up, didn't everyone say he had great mechanics? That he could pitch forever and not get hurt? Or am I missing something? Oh well, 97 years and counting! -
Two words: No. Let's wait and see what this new pitch is before we cast him down to the lowly middle relievers. Even though he got hit yesterday, did you see some of the nasty hamburgers he was sending up there? I think Ken Harvey popped an shoulder on one of his swings.

You are all forgetting a great movie...not my favorite, but still great. The Negotiator I'd have to go with 1. Blues Brothers 2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 3. Sixteen Candles (since I went to Junior High right next door to Niles East, where they shot the high school scenes) 4. The Fugitive 5. The Negotiator.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Digger thinks that as well. I have to disagree. By the way, does anyone else think this is an extremely tough bracket? If Illinois wants to make it to St. Louis they are going to have their work cut out for them. Texas- Fairly consistent. Nevada- TOUGH. This is a damn good basketball team that isn't really getting talked about. Arizona- Extremely difficult. Scares the hell out of me. Oklahoma St.- Real good team. Actually, an argument for a #1 seed can be made for the Cowboys. When they are on, they are real tough. We are really going to have to play our best to make it out of Chicago. It's tough, but it's not that tough. Living here in Austin, I can tell you that Texas isn't going that far. They may beat the Wolfpack, but Daniel Gibson doesn't handle the ball very well, in fact, that whole team doesn't handle the ball very well. I give them credit for bouncing back after losing PJ Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge, but they don't have what it takes. I don't know much about Nevada, so I won't comment. Arizona...they are the Kansas of the West...they lose focus. They have a great player in Stoudamire and Hassan Adams, but after that...not much. Oklahoma State does scare me, though. Joey Graham is a STUD!!! He will be a tough matchup for Augustine or Powell. But, if they do with him what they do with Hagen from Minny...Powell man-to-man and Augustine doubles as soon as he touches the ball...I think the rest of the Illini could beat the rest of the Cowboys.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) 250 would be an improvement over 04. Considering he's at 077 in ST where do you see this 250 coming from? C'mon Juggs...he has 13 at-bats. Give him at least until the last week of March. Even the best hitters go into a 1-13 slump.

Keep dreamin'. There is NO WAY Minny would trade with us. Not in the Division. But I agree, it would be nice.

To Duke fans: When Coach K retires, you'll be lucky to be in the RPI top 100, because Coach K can flat out coach. To UNC fans: Roy Williams will do exactly what he did at Kansas, make it to the tourney, some final fours, and then.......nuthin'. To Illini fans: 39-0!!! -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) Wait till next week to celebrate that when we send off Gene Keady by winnning our second consecutive outright Big 10 Championship. All of you that will be at the game, whether in the Krush or not, can you guys give Captain Combover a big sendoff for all of the Illini Alumni that can't be there. Keady is the best coach to never have won anything (after Boeheim won two years ago). Plus, he gave us Bruce Weber by not retiring a year earlier. Go ILLINI!!! -
Illinois' Williams probably leaving early for NBA

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) No way. That would be taking a step backwards, especially considering how weak the draft is going to be... I can't wait to hear how much better hoiberg is than Q because he leads the league in 3 point %... They aren't going to give him the money he wants. They are going to want to get something. -
Boozer reportedly to be traded to Lakers?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) They already have a rapist there, now they have a boozer too? What's next? A crackhead? Not sure I like the trade unless Divac has an expiring contract. -

Deron is a slower Jason Kidd...but can shoot better. He has great court vision. He gawn. As for Dee staying, I can't see it, a good chunk of the team is graduating or leaving and while a core of Dee and James Augustine is a good start, there isn't much behind them except for sophs and freshies. He might be outie. I see Deron going around 15 and Luther between 30 - 35. As for the Bulls, I could see Pax trading Curry and maybe a 2006 expiring contract for a first rounder. Just a thought. -
What would you change.....

Put the All-Star game at the end of the year in Hawaii, so we can get true All-Stars. -
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) ..riiiiggggghhhhht >who exactly is our ace...Mark or Freddy? Don't care...two aces are good to have. and if Hernandez can pitch like last year, we have three aces.

I think Kenny had a bit of a chip on his shoulders when he started as GM. He was young, black, and unproven. Many people thought Dan Evans should've been the GM. He has definitely matured through his years and I applaud him on his ability to make the big trade and try to make a winner with what he has. For those of you that don't like him, fine, don't like him. But, my guess is you haven't liked any GM for nearly 90 years, since we haven't won in that long. Do you also dislike the managers, owners, players, trainers, coaches, etc. in that same span?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Overbay was a good, cheap easily tradeable for the Brewers to get a new OF or sign Dye to replace Pods. There were plenty of options available to the Brewers to trade for Koney & replace Pods. So I don't buy that for the reason Lee was traded instead of Koney. Likewise I disagree with the general premise that we are stronger D with Pods, Rowand, Dye vs Lee, Rowand, Pods. I think Lee at this stage in his career can make more plays than Dye. Not to mention the durability factor of Lee. Who is more likely to avg 95+ AB a month for you? As for the hustle factor that was one play! I can remember more plays in his time with the Sox where Lee gave up his body either to make a play in the field or make a play on the bases. It's pretty petty thinking to give up that much production over 1 play. don't forget they have Prince Fielder coming up right behind Overbay. i don't think they have a highly rated OF prospect coming up...and if they do, they can plug him in behind Brady Clark, if he's that good. Clark is a stopgap. And Jenkins has health issues. i'll give you the Dye vs. Lee health issues. And we aren't in the clubhouse, Ozzie seemed to have soured a bit on Lee and as much as I'm sure he would like his production, Pods is more suited to what KW thought we needed (and cheaper than other options). We'll see how it goes.

Who's the single-season home run champ?
CanOfCorn replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I say, who cares? With all the juicing, the number doesn't matter anymore. Career matters more. There may be juicing, but it also implies health and batting eye. No matter how much juicing Bonds did in his career, that only makes some of fly balls homers. Anyone can have a fluke season or three (I'm talking to you Sammy or Brady Anderson when he hit 50), but over the span of a 20 year career, that's impressive. If homers were all about juicing, McGwire would've passed Aaron first. -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Ok. But again we are talking specifically about a bench player role & not an everyday player. I'm saying the article is ignoring a bench that features players who are strong against either & some time both LH & RH. That diminishes the need for a strong RH bat off the bench. I can't agree more with the article's belief that we will miss Lee's production the most. I think this is exactly why most analysts are downplaying us. Lee 2004: April 80AB .263 .341 .475 .816 May 102AB .304 .379 .373 .752 June 106AB .311 .368 .453 .820 July 97AB .309 .361 .773 1.134 Aug 91AB .330 .367 .593 .961 Sep 103AB .330 .400 .534 .934 We should have traded Koney to the Brewers for Pods+Vizc+PTBNL. I don't see any one on the Sox contributing 315A, 375O, 540S from May-Sep in 05. Juggs...I love all your number crunching. I really do, mostly because I don't (or won't) do it myself. But, there are many other factors that go into who gets traded. the Brewers don't need a 1B is one. I think there was a hustle issue with Ozzie. Yes, we will miss his production, but we have a better defensive outfield w/o him. At least Pods or Rowand or whoever truly ends up playing there will get to more balls. We'll see, but I don't think the loss of Lee will be as bad as some people say.

QUOTE(shakes @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Someone's getting yelled at today. If they figure it out. I can't remember the name of the anchor woman, but it was also channel 5. During the fire at the Lasalle Bank building she claimed "This is the worst fire Chicago has ever seen." That's one helluva building...wouldn't be able to see the spire at 13,000 feet anyway. It's a good thing Meigs isn't there anymore or we'd see lot's of crashes. as for the anchorwoman, as a friend and former channel 2 reporter and anchor once told me...there are reporters and there are newsreaders. This stupid Channel 5 anchor is a news reader. All looks, no brain.
