He's been saying that for years. And it's true, for the most part. Let's hope the 16 wins is in the 42 column!!!

As long as Mike Tice coaches that team, they aren't going anywhere. Coaches are like players, if they don't learn after the first couple of years, they should be gawn. I'm not a fan, but watch out for those Lions, they are going to be much better. -
The Vic is also my second favorite, behind the Riviera. I don't know why, but the Riv is such a cool place to see a show. Metro is really close too. I saw Cake and Massive Attack at the Vic and they were the best sounding shows I'd seen to that point. Foo Fighters at the Riv is the best.

I moved down to Austin 2 1/2 years ago and the one thing I miss more than anything else is major professional sports. We have Arena football, Central Hockey League Ice Bats, UT sports, and the Astros new AAA affiliate Round Rock Express (owned by the great Nolan Ryan, btw). Last year it was AA. And it is an absolute blast. Good, inexpensive tickets, cheap beer and eats...but it's not the show. There is such a talent jump from minors to majors. So, I'd say Majors, but for family fun...minors. If only they could bring Arlington or Houston a little closer so I can go see the Sox win or the Cubs lose...

QUOTE(Carlo Paz @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Fifth inning. Time to swing! Gotta love the Nehru jacket. Maybe he'll wear it for a turn back the clock game! (Not in green because, well, I would REALLY like to see it)

This guy is sick, but the AP had a strange ending to the article that I noticed: Didn't the campaign organizers just say they wanted to shift the focus from athleticism to the abuse of children? Thanks for THAT, AP!

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) One small detail a lot of people who spew freedom and constitutional rights in this country seem to miss. Freedom and Anarchy are two different things. Freedom gives you the right to live as a law abiding citizen under the flag of a countries protection. It does not give you the right to speak whever you want. It does not give you the right to do whatever you want. Anarchy is the right to do whatever you want, including murder, rape, and general destruction of all mankind. Freedom sounds better, even if it's not the freedom we often think of. -y2 Freedom of Speech is a double edged sword. You can say just about anything you want (except yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater), but you also have to allow others to say what they want, even if you disagree wholeheartedly. In the words of General Colin Powell:

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) By that logic, Rush is an expert. He saids all kinds of funny things... the problem is he means most of them seriously... The thing I like about Franken is that he can rip stupid Dems too. Not as much, of course, but he can and does do it. Rush is a blowhard that likes to hear himself talk. I mean, c'mon, dittoheads? I don't care who it is, but anyone that has people call into a talk show and say, "Ditto" is the most asinine thing ever. s***, it could be someone on Air America and I would laugh in their face. So, I do what every American has the right to do...not listen.

QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) I think its suffice to say that Youppi! is offended. Just look at him in the Avatar. What you don't see are the brass knuckles he has on. He's going to go ass-wild next time he sees the Newter.

QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) I honestly dont think the draft will look like that at all 1. because of recent news 2. trades (Oakland and Skins) Jason Campbell is going in the first round.

Ordonez calls Sox skipper his 'enemy'

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) I really don't think that Ozzie thinks that rationally, and I think players are going to be pissed off enough about this to drill him. Ozzie knows better than that. If anyone plunks him, it will be someone like Cotts. Someone that we can live without for a couple of days. It's too bad Maggs isn't a 2B, SS or catcher, than we could take him out on the basepaths... Unless they send Willie out to RF on a pop-up. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) I guess it's okay to assume he lied as opposed to making an error. Which, by the way, once it was pointed out to him, he apologized for making. Again, read Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. You would think an insider like Gingrich would either a) talk to someone in the know before he shot his mouth off or B) already know the facts. He didn't know either. Sorry, Yas...that's not a mistake a public figure like Newt should make.

Ordonez calls Sox skipper his 'enemy'
CanOfCorn replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ozzie will be Ozzie. Ozzie did take the high road. He was praising Jaggs for his play and the kind of player he was for the Sox. Now, after a PERSONAL attack, he goes off on Magglio? I don't blame him one bit. Also, can any of you provide a case where Ozzie NAMED Carlos? I know we and the media have inferred that he was talking about CLee, but has he ever called him out? Or Magglio for that matter? -
Kiper on top draft picks/Bears
CanOfCorn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) And CWS, everything about Benson is true.. He is the most NFL ready back in the draft and should easily get over 1,000 yards in the season.. He has solid speed for a guy who is an in between the tackles runner.. He will be a good player, thats one thing you dont have to worry about if the Bears select him.. I see him play all the time living down here in Texas and I havent seen a game where he didnt dominate.. When they play OU they are usually down by so much they have to resort to passing, but Benson is a solid player, and he should be just that in the NFL Cedric was out of the game in the first half of the three OU games I saw. Trust me, that's all they talk about here in Austin after the game. Why can't Ced take over the game against OU...blah, blah, blah. I'll tell you why, because Mack Brown can recruit, but he can't coach worth a damn. -
You wanna talk about lies...read Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. Now THAT is a real eye opener.
-
In Spring Training, Shingo said something about developing a new pitch. He obviously didn't show it in ST. What is the pitch? I don't see too many Sox games unfortunately (cuz I live in Texas).

What everyone is forgetting here is that we are talking about foster parents, not adoptive parents. And there is a shortage of foster parents everywhere. To all of a sudden cut down on an already small number by discriminating against gay foster parents is ridiculous. And it's not Texas, it's religious conservatives. They are all over the place now and there will be a huge backlash soon. Here's a state with a Republican governor and a Republican controlled legislature who did something completely different... Connecticut

They lost their sparkplug in Vizquel. Peralta may be good one day, but Vizquel was the heart of that team. Offensively and defensively. They don't really have a veteran to lead them...and no Aaron Boone doesn't count.

Oakland's stadium is not a hitter's park, which is one reason why the Sox couldn't win there in past years. They are built more like Oakland (except for the OBP). As for Pods getting thrown out at home twice...at least we are aggressive. There will be a few times where that run will score and it may mean the game. Cotts > Wunsch because he can spot start and actually pitch a WHOLE inning, unlike Wunsch who was a lefty specialist. Kenny made some good moves, Ozzie has this team playing like a team, and they will start hitting. Every player goes through slumps, but speed, pitching and defense can pull a team through player's slumps. Effort wins.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) More examples of 'art', from our friends over in England. http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=410542005] I would kill this guy. My first new car got keyed 2 weeks after I got it. That bugged me for years! It may be art, but the thing about art is that it gives you the choice in participating. Keying cars without the owners approval is not a choice. He should be tossed in jail and made to pay for the repairs. As for the stamp...again, it is choice of participation. As Texsox said, the fact that there is discussion and the secret service is investigating is a win for the artist. You don't like it, don't talk about it and don't see it. You have that right and that choice.
