QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) I don't think he was a laughing stock with the Bulls for more than 3 or 4 years(depends on when he acquired them). Then they got Jordan in 84 and they've made the playoffs for 14 straight years. 6 bad years isn't enough to even that out. And they made the playoffs again this year. You're right, but they were 6 REALLY BAD YEARS!!! And don't forget, 16 teams make it into the playoffs, not 8 like in baseball.
-
Then you can't like any Atlanta Braves front office member, I mean, he's won 13 straight division titles but only ONE World Series...that means they've been the 1st loser 12 TIMES!!! PS...Who ARE you? And why are you so pompous?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Did you forget about the Bulls...? No, I just left them out because he DID bring 6 championships, but he also had the laughingstock of the league for 5-6 years. So, it evened out.

It really depends on how you measure ownership of a major league team. If it's charity, it's the Sox ownership, hands down. If it's putting winners on the field, court or rink, Reinsdorf and the Trib are the closest you are going to come. Sox have four division titles (including 1994), Cubs have 2 and one wild card. But, then again, the Halas family has owned the Bears since their inception and they've won a few titles. So, how do you measure?

Check it... Colonel Chicken Eater It's sad really.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) I thought that CArlton decided that? I remember a big deal being made about how he 'picked' the Red Sox hat to wear into Cooperstown. I think it was around the time Wade Boggs signed his contract with the D-Rays. In that contract, there was a stipulation that he would go into the Hall as a D-Ray. People freaked out, which I don't blame them.

And he's from Vermont. I believe he grew up a Red Sox fan.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 26, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) Training wow. And I thought the Star Wars kid was bad. Yikes. I do like the kick at the end though, it really brings the whole story together.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) See, this is wher you differ.. I say that owners.. would have to pull out their money to sign AJ.. DYE would have been Gullien(a younger better version of DYE) and Gooch.. see AJ.. Put Hernandez in there and he be exactly where he is now.. ON THE FA-KING DL.. Have you ever run a business? Unfortunately, people don't succeed when they run a business at a loss. You see, when more money goes out the door, to employees, upkeep, etc., then comes in, ticket sales, merchandise sales, then the business runs at a loss. And most good businesspeople, who wouldn't be owning baseball teams if they weren't good businesspeople, don't run their businesses at a loss. Simple economics.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ May 26, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) And How was Hernadez's start this past Sunday? Better than your posts.

Derek Lowe is 4-4 with a 3.02 ERA making $7 mil Matt Clement is 5-0 with a 3.34 ERA making $6.5 mil El Duque is 5-1 with a 3.91 ERA making $3.5 mil Interesting, because he has comparable numbers and yet makes $3 mil less. I would say Kenny made a pretty good call on this one. EDIT: Sorry Wedge, beat me to it.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other on KW. He's made some good moves and bad ones. JUST LIKE EVERY GM!!! He isn't our savior. Even Scheurholz has made bad moves, just not as many. There is no "truth," there's luck mixed in with the skill. You could have your Cabreras, Guillen's and Ortiz's and they all could've gotten hurt. Or they don't want to be a White Sox. Or they retire. Or they suck. It's not KW who goes down on the field and plays. He can only get, what he thinks are good players and hope they play as a team and well enough to win. You don't know any better than anyone else.
-
no. I'd rather be good for years than win one series.

What some people fail to understand is there are trades that lead to other things. To me, the Sox got beat on the Brewer trade. I think they could've gotten more for Carlos Lee. BUT................ The money saved helped to sign Iguchi, AJ, Hermanson, and Dye. Therefore, the trade was a win-win. The Brewers got a middle of the order hitter that is now leading the NL is RBIs and the White Sox upgraded at 2B and C. Bolstered the bullpen. And got a serviceable RF. How about this Anthrax...I'm posing a challenge. You no longer post your trades or say KW sucks until you become a GM and win that World Series with YOUR players. When you do that, and you prove all of us wrong, I will be the first in line to fly to wherever you are and present a Soxtalk trophy with a likeness of me kissing your ass.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 25, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Whether he SHOULD be better or not, I dont think we appreciate his current ability nearly enough. He is good at what he is right now, and i am content with having a reliable player in the hot corner. We could have it ALOT worse that this. He's reliable defensively, that's for sure. And if he could hit .250 consistently, throughout the year, I would be happy, but he is not a consistent bat. That's what I would like to see...1 for 4's.

Record Catfish Caught in Alton, IL
CanOfCorn replied to doUrememberwhen's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 25, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) I am glad to see they kept it alive. I saw him on ESPN 2 this morning and he was saying he caught a 94 lb. fish before, but he likes to catch and release, so he didn't get it measured officially. To get it measured by a conservation policeman, it basically has to die. Probably don't have a place in the boat big enough and who knows where the measuring station is. What's scary is that there is probably a BIGGER catfish out there. Yikes. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) Interesting. Thats a bit longer than one would expect. I'm guessing they will wait for the road NL games to be over with before activating him. I don't really have a problem with this because I think more AAA at bats will make it that much easier for him to come up and have success right off the bat. Still maybe my numbers are off, but June 13th seems like it would be over the 20 day maximum rehab stint. Perhaps he just can't play with Charlotte and he'll come up and take some swings on the side between AAA and activation? Maybe take some swings in batting practice or against someone doing side work?

LCR, if you want to take this to its logical conclusion, the US should bomb...the US. Because who trained bin Laden to begin with? That's right, the United States Government when we were training Afghani forces to fight off the Soviet Union in the late 70's and early 80's. The problem is, there is not logical conclusion. Do what you have to do and get the hell out. I don't think logic and war have much to do with each other at all.

A good offseason assessment of the NFC North
CanOfCorn replied to shakes's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(shakes @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Sorry, I meant no major oversights in the offseason. Although, I think not signing a veteran backup could have been a mistake. At least for a year or two while Orton develops. He's right about the LB. Hunter just ain't gonna cut it. Watch for the June 1st cuts. They also need one more CB now that R-Dub is G-One. -
Maybe KW can call in a favor? Hey Billy, remember that Billy Koch trade? How about Chavez for Crede straight up?
-
How about Polanco and Howard? Howard may be off the trade list because of Thome's back, but there's your 1B next year when Konerko doesn't resign.
