My grandpa and I used to watch Sox games on Channel 44 in the mid to late 70's. That's when I became a Sox fan. But, really started to pay attention in '83.

whose the most hated sox pitcher?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) At least Sirotka never did anything after we traded him. I have a lot more hatred for Navarro. What a tool, and he sucked for the Sox a lot longer than Wells did. Navarro...by a wiiiiiiiiide margin. I'd also put Scott Ruffcorn in there, supposed to be the second coming and turned out to be nuthin'. -
Tuna Salad and string cheese. Mmmm, mmmm...love the South Beach diet.

QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) I think he will come back and go 0-4 in one game and then sit out for a few because of a mysterious "viral knee problem infection". Then he will try to pinch hit in a game but will go back on the DL with a "sore knee problem esophegus". That sore esophagus will get you every time. It got Deep Throat. The porn star, not the stoolie.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) In the BoSox/Cubs pitching matchups on the front page of the Southtown sports section the paper lists the starting pitcher for the Red Sox as "Brandon Arroyo". Boodily boop be doop......pbpththtpbthpththth.

Although, interestingly enough, it's the first time the Red Sox have ever played at WRIGLEY. They played the 1918 World Series at COMISKEY because it had a bigger capacity. I must admit, that's kinda cool.

Favorite Athlete Nicknames
CanOfCorn replied to Milkman delivers's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Even though I hated the Pistons and I hated Vinnie Johnson, I always thought, "The Microwave" was a good one. Especially since it was when microwaves were really starting to become popular household items AND Vinnie could heat up that fast. -
I went to lots of Cubs games when I lived on Southport...it was easier to get to, for one, but I love baseball, no matter where it's played. I like watching games and if it's a Cubs game, it's a Cubs game. But, all things being equal, I'd go to a White Sox game every time.

I agree...it's time to stop the madness , but having a pinned thread will just get totally mucked up with people going back and forth. There was one last year and it was REALLY hard to keep track of where the thread was going. I honestly believe most of the people who start these threads really want to help this team, they just aren't realistic. The best thing to do is what you are going to do, just ignore them until you are ready to start chiming in. Good luck with that. I've tried and it's hard....

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) This gets better. Mariotti is getting killed today for his lies yesterday http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Hey, Mariotti, you are supposed to REPORT the news, not BE the news. What a jagbag.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) i guess, but before this injury it was a big possibility he was going to enter. Which would have been a huge mistake. No reason to worry about it now. So who are the starting five now? Dee Richard McBride Warren Carter James Augustine Who else? Do they go with another three guard set? Go bigger with Marcus Arnold? What do you guys think?

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I'm sold on Uribe defensively, but not at all offensively. He reminds me a little bit of Shea Hillenbrand -- a guy who never walks but can make contact with pretty much anything you throw at him. These guys are streaky hitters, and you either have to accept it or get rid of him because these guys don't have a history of changing. Since he's normally your 8th or 9th hitter, you really don't need that much out of him. The problem though is that your normal 7-8-9 hitters(Pierzynski, Crede and Uribe) are all kind of like that. To varying degrees, yes, but none of them ever walk much, and are all streaky hitters. If they are all on cold streaks at the same time, it's like 3 useless spots in your order. Yeah, but remember, the 3-4-5 hitters were slumping earlier in the year, but our 7-8-9 hitters were on fire. It's more than just slumps, it's timely hitting. As long as other people can pick you up, or that 1 hit in a 1-12 series is a game winner, that's what matters.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Wilson is having a really bad year. Hitting .237 and a .274 OBP. In fact his career OBP is only.302 Not really an upgrade. Mackowiak, on the other hand, is hitting .346 with a.425 OBP His career is .335 Not great, but better. Plus he can play all the outfield spots too. Don't forget he can also play all the infield spots except for SS.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) This Dye hater is at work right now.... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Me too, Uribe at 3rd would be a lot better than having Crede play everyday. Plus Wilson gets on base and is a solid hitter who can be relied on. Last year was a career year for Jack Wilson, I don't think he's going to do it again. And his OBP isn't that good, even last year. Jack Wilson Stats

J Dye CWS OF 10 27 .260 He's still striking out too much, but I think he's made a pretty good comeback over the last month. Look out for the second half of the season.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Great article. "One of the moves being thrown around by the plethora of amateur general managers had Chavez moving to the White Sox for third baseman Joe Crede and pitcher Brandon McCarthy, with an alleged deal-breaking request by Oakland for Minor League standout Brian Anderson." Have these guys been lurking on soxtalk? "In fact, Williams smiled and eventually forced out a "yes" when one reporter asked him if there were any untouchables in his Minor League system. Williams wouldn't give the exact total, in order to maintain future leverage in possible deals, but McCarthy and Anderson certainly are on that short list." I think from now on, any trade ideas should not include these two guys, I think we may actually have some untouchables for real this time. I think we have pretty much ran this topic into the ground. There are NO untouchables on the team or in the system IF Kenny thinks it will improve the team. He isn't going to trade B Mac or Anderson for Randa, but he might for someone else. And no, I'm not going to speculate on who that is.
-
QUOTE(ZeroHour @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) if they like him so much, why does he keep splitting time? recent injury aside, why is he the 4th and sometimes 5th OF? Probably because they are trying to showcase Kearns and Griffey to trade.

How about Vizcaino from the Astros? They have Mike Lamb and Todd Self who are playing first now and Berkman for the future. He's a switch hitter who can play all the infield positions. Or J.T. Snow from the Giants. They have Feliz, who could play 1B and Lance Niekro. He's a LHH who can only play first, but he would be a great late inning defensive replacement and a doubles hitter.

Now This is Some Heated Competition
CanOfCorn replied to farmteam's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I would agree with all of this thread if it was called SPN, the Sports Programming Network. But, it is called the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. I have realized that ESPN isn't about sports, it's about competition. That includes poker, spelling bees, CFL, Women's College Softball, Magic the Gathering, LPGA, and College Football. Even the And 1 Streetball series had competition. -
Dusty's newest excuse for Cubs woes...
CanOfCorn replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in The Diamond Club
I say to Dusty, explain the Red Sox and Yankees of the last, oh, 10 or so years? I believe they have won quite a bit while being on TV quite a bit. -
Ozuna can play IF and OF Harris can play IF and OF Gload can play IF and OF (as long as it isn't RF) Timo can play RF and RF. He was good for us last year, but it's time to find a backup 1B since Gload is down again and Timo sucks at 1B. And by the way, it's not y'all, it's ya'll. Learned that when I moved to Texas.

I wish, for your birthday, you get that Gashwound fixed! Happy Birthday.

Ridiculous. Horrible what they did, but jail isn't the answer. He'll be dead within the year. He should've known better, but that doesn't make him a killer. This is one of those cases that will be appealed and appealed and appealed.
