Maybe it's as simple as the Sox vs. Boras. Crede will probably walk after this year only because he is represented by Boras, so why not get a 3B that is signed long term? I'm not saying they SHOULD do this, but it could be that simple.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 18, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Lovie Jung Trib had a nice article about it two days ago-ish. Just googled it and found it. YOu beat me to it. Thanks.

Who's his Olympic Softball Player girlfriend?

I used to live on North and Clark and work on Clark and Belden. I used to love walking to or from work through the zoo. Where else can you walk to work and see pigmy hippos, lions, cougars, seals and penguins on the way? It's free, it's in the city, it's fun, it's fantastic people watching...what more could you ask for?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 17, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) To be fair, Konerko and Dye really do a lot on their own, Konerko has been changing his swing it seems like every other AB and thats mostly Konerko's doing not Walkers. The guys i would assume Walker worked the most with are Podsenick(who is hitting the ball and taking walks) and Crede(who still isnt good, but better than last year) When is .262 not good? It's ok, but considering he was below .240 last year, that's a marked improvement. If he can keep it at .265 the rest of the year, I would call it a success. Walker can only get in their ears. He doesn't have the respect of a Charlie Lau, who was his hitting coach when he played. Charlie Lau wasn't about homers at all, he was about open stances, waiting on the back foot, and hitting line drives. And don't forget, nobody thinks this team has the big boppers like they had with Carlos, Maggs and Frank. So when Frank gets back, if he can hit like we all know he can, that will open up the lineup to some good ol' hitters pitches. Don't give up on Walker yet.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 17, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) IMO, Newhart had the best ending (when Bob woke up in his bed back in Chicago, on the set of his former series... his job as an inkeeper in Vermont had all been a dream). That was genius. Absolutely...this was the Best. Finale. Ever. And, the more I watch the Seinfeld finale, the more I like it. It was a disappointment at the time, but it really showed how shallow and uncaring they were.

I think it will be two weeks from today vs. the LAAoA. It will give him two full home series to get in the groove and test out the ankle and then two intraleague away series where he will probably only be a pinch hitter to rest the ankle. Makes the most sense to me, although I bet he's itching to get into a game at Coors Lite to see how far he can hit it.

HOw the hell is Will and Grace still on the air? Does anyone watch it anymore?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Kudos to our pitching staff for pitching their asses off night in and night out. The offense needs to be a bit more consistant. Pods and Gooch have been getting on for the thumpers. However the middle of the lineup has barely been clutch this year. Watching a few stat padder solo homers at the end of the game when down 5-0 is easy instead of in the 2nd inning with men on and two outs. I hear interviews with Greg Walker and he says the right things. However our team constantly pulls the ball. We tinker with stances, we thinker with everything. Its one thing to tinker with a crede who has had nothing but problems, but why is Konerko using a new stance after he had a good year. Yes raising your hands gives you a better power stroke. But its hard to square up the ball when you have a dip in your swing. Pull Baseball Son!!!! This is our motto. If you want to shut down the sox for the last few years its a simple formula. Spot the fastball on the outside corner about 80% of the time. Every so often toss a cutter in to keep them off ballance. Our hitters dive over the plate and try to extend their arms to pull the outside pitch. This is why we make soft tossing 6+ ERA pitchers look like Cy Young. Our hitting approach in itself is a problem. If they have a pitcher that has the propensity to throw outside lthen the hitters who have better scouting than we should go up there trying to hit the ball up the middle and the other way. If they start to make solid contact with that approach the pitcher will try to get them to back off the plate and will go in. The minute they go in its time to turn on the pitch and launch it. Pauly and Dye are pulling the ball over and over. Pauly last year hit a bunch of pitches to right field especially with men on. This year I see a ton of strikeouts and a lot of grounds and lineouts to the 3rd basemen. If we want to play smartball then we need to commit the whole way. There is a time to launch a pitch into the stands. Its not with men on in the early part of the game. Its not when the count insnt in your favor. These guys can hit, these guys can succeed. Its time for them to approach this by trying to hit to all fields and to stop being one dimensional. If we do this our offense will start to click and make everyone a lot less nervous. When ballplayers press, they are trying to hit the snot out of the ball. And that usually means they are pulling it. Hopefully, Ozzie giving Kong the "I'm not goin to bench this kid," routine, Pauly will relax. Dye too, although i think he's is on a very thin rope right now.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 13, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) Debating the kids would make him look stupid win or lose. But it doesn't matter he already looks like a stupid ass when he says things like this about a high schoolers. Exactly. He made his bed, now he should lie in it...or made to lie in it. They could charge money and donate it to the school system. If he wins, he could donate $5000 more and if he loses, he could donate $10000. That's a win, win situation. If he loses, he still looks good.

If they are going to have Paul and his Mendoza line batting average, then they should have Pods and his 17 steals. That is the most ridiculous projection I've ever seen.

5/13/05 Game Thread - Sox's vs O's Part 2

QUOTE(JimH @ May 13, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Sorry to hear this. Even though you didn't ask my advice, here it is anyway Even if it's the world's s***tiest job and even if your bosses are total jerks ... don't get fired and don't ever burn a bridge. You never know when you might want a reference or might work with any of those people again. Stranger things have, and do happen. Always try to leave your job on your own terms. It's bad enough with layoffs and company closings and all ... but don't get fired. Especially for a baseball game, it's not worth it. By the way, it is raining like crazy in Naperville as I type this, about 12:15. Just as an aside, time heals all wounds. I just used a video crew from a place I was fired from, and held a grudge for a long time, this last Tuesday. Even if you are fired, you can always go back as a client and rub their faces in it. I mean, work as a team. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 13, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) That story was grossly one sided. Oh c'mon Yas. He needs to put his money where his mouth is. Rush has this tendency (and yes, I do listen to him from time to time) to make this grandiose statements about the way things should be in the world according to Rush. This is one of those statements, no matter how anyone thinks the coverage is slanted. Take them on, Rush, what are you afraid of?

33...born at Northwestern Memorial Hospital...and lived in Edgewater for 3 years. Lived in Skokie until I was 18. Champaign for college. Back to Chicago until I was 31... Now in Austin, Texas...and I sure wish there was a team closer than 3 hours away.

========================= Well, sure. But I’m not sure what we’d debate. I don’t like the ballpark, or the uniforms. Those are just matters of pure opinion, and not things about which I’ll change my mind. And about the baseball . . . I mean, this spring I picked the White Sox to win the Central, and at the moment I think they’ve got a fine chance at reaching the postseason. So what’s to debate? Well, we don't like you. But that's just a matter of pure opinion.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 12, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Sox are the most uncovered team in baseball, Could that be any further from the truth? I'm not saying it's true...that's what people seem to be saying. Should've put it in green...my bad. jerk.
-
Whatever...let Rob Neyer and the other guys at ESPN have their opinions (personally I like Kurkjian the best). All that matters is that the Sox keep winning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Sox are the most uncovered team in baseball, but nothing stops that like good old fashioned 8-game winning streaks. And making the playoffs. The more the Sox get ignored, the more blackboard material Ozzie and Kenny have. We know who the true Sox fans are. We know what Comiskey is like. We know the players on our team. And we love them the way they are. So again, I say...whatever to Rob Neyer.

El Duque...not only is he pitching out his ass right now...but he's helping Contreras. It's a lot easier when you have a friend and countryman on the same team. Although they all deserve dap.

What if we were 7-21? Then Kotex Boy would be all over the Sox for not beating the teams that we SHOULD be beating. This is one of the problems the Sox have had the last couple of years, especially with the Tigers. They've gone 4-1 against most people's pick to win the division and except for Oakland they've won every other series. What if this happened in July? Would there be a difference? I say no!!! It certainly can't be easy writing 5-6 columns a week in addition to being on TV almost every day...but, c'mon, just be consistent.
