QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) How has our O done against stud pitchers???? We got owned by Santana. We got owned by Prior. And we got owned by Zambrano. I cannot remember us beating a stud pitcher yet. Do you have faith in the playoffs on this lineup against a healthy Curt Schilling or Matt Clement or Radke or Santana or any of the Angels starters followed by Donnelly, Shields and KRod???? I sure as hell do not. Also do you have faith that Buerhle or Garland can shut down the Angels or Bo Sox or Twinkies line up? Again, I sure as hell do not. Say what you want but this team has been amazingly lucky in terms of how it has missed playing against stud players/pitchers. We have played against: 1 series vs Os without Sosa (and we went 2-2) 2 series vs Angels without Guerrero (and we went 4-3) 3 (?) series vs Twinkies without Morneau (until now) 1 series vs Padres without going up against Peavy or Eaton (and we went 2-1) 2 (?) series vs Tigers without Maggs (until now) 1 series vs Cubs without Wood (and we went 2-1) And I know there are some more out there.... PS: We will miss Wood and Prior again most likely against the Cubs. Oh relax... Sosa isn't the threat he once was. Splitting a series in Anaheim with or without Guerrero is fantastic in my book. We'll see how much Morneau matters next time. Still took 2 of 3 on the road, in an unfamiliar stadium. Don't even get started on Maggs since he hasn't done JACK this year. Didn't the Cubs just go on a pretty decent streak w/o Wood AND Prior? This team may need some little pieces here and there, but they win on the road and they win close games, that seems to be a good recipe for playoff success, if you ask me.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) As we get closer to trade deadline, there will be more concrete ideas/rumors to go off and debate. Currently though, we will have to live with arbitrary ideas, hopefully most of which are founded off some semblance of reality. Cheers I'm not trying to shoot anything down, but concrete rumors? There's no such thing. I don't think Kenny would go after Omar. And how would Omar take to being a platoon player like you suggested earlier? He did "consider" it, and Omar went to the Giants. Now it's time to move on. Whatever Kenny does, or doesn't do, will be in the best interest of the Sox.

But if no one cares or wants to talk about the Sox, why is Boers even bringing it up? The story line is exactly what Boers said...no respect. There it is in black and white. Call it a chip on their shoulders or whatever. But the Sox are the second fiddle in the Second City, but if they win the WS first, that will elevate them nationally. Do you think Dontrelle Willis would be getting more press than Jon Garland if the Marlins didn't win the WS? Do you think the Angels of the Anaheim area would've gotten Vlad if they hadn't won? I don't think so.

Kinda like his ratings would be if he was syndicated.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) Chavez-would win us the division and the WS Maybe on paper he would. But you don't know that. Any number of things could happen. That's what makes baseball fun.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) I do agree, after seeing how this team has come together, and no signs of them really slowing down, I think this team can go very, very far with the players we have now. However, just increasing those chances, I think another arm in the pen will help, ALOT. Getting a Guardado, or Batsita would just give the pitching staff just another shot in the arm. I think Viz will come around and be the reliever he was last year, as will Shingo. I think this team needs a decent backup 1B/3B. A Mackowiak would be nice, but Mike Lamb would look good in a Sox uni. Ensberg is ensconsed at 3B for the Astros and Berkman is the next 1B for the Astros.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) My gf is planning to move here from ontario sometime in the near future. We're both very confused at the whole process. Is moving here from canada different than moving here from any other country? What exactly needs to happen? I'm sure you guys know alot more than me. Any help appreciated. Is this you?!?!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) It seemed to me that it would be brutal. Fortunately, the few times I've attended games there, there weather was cooperative. I was there in April and it was fine. But I could definitely see how it would be brutal in the summer. But you can always walk over to Wet & Wild after the game.

There are more and more pitchers that can hit well. Maddux in his prime, Hampton, D-Train, Smoltz, Wood. Pitchers are starting to hit about the Mendoza line. I say, leave it in.

If we are talking trades with the Giants that aren't going to happen, what about "The Fonz." Plays third, pretty good bat, pretty good defense. NOt as much power, but that's ok.

Kenny Williams.

If the spurs win.... are they a dynasty?
CanOfCorn replied to rangercal's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Are the Buffalo Bills of the early 90's a dynasty? I would say yes, even though they didn't win the Super Bowl. How many teams can say they went to four straight Super Bowl's? Or World Series? Or Championship Series? The only ones I can think of are the Yankees, Celtics, and UCLA Bruins. And probably some team in hockey when there were 6 teams. Like Montreal. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) I always liked: 1) World B. Free for Llloyd B. Free of the 76ers 2) "Air" Jordan 3) "Penny" Hardaway I don't know if it was a nickname first, but he actually changed his name to World B. Free. -
I went there for a Cubs-'Stros game (a friend of mine is a huuuuge Cub fan). We went for batting practice, when the roof is closed. Great place to watch BP. Then, right before game time, they open the roof...and THAT'S when I fell in love with the place. Sure, the short porch and the hill are strange, but that's what people like in stadiums...quirks and differentiators. Look at all the parks people talk about: Fenway has the Green Monster, the strange angles and the short porch in right. Yankee Stadium has the monuments. Wrigley has the ivy, baskets and the ability to hit it onto the street. Camden has the B&O Warehouse. Royals Stadium has the fountains. SBC has McCovey Cove. And many more. Granted, some of this is the surrounding area, but the Astros are on that list with Tal's Hill...still a better park than the Astrodome and Ameriquest in Arlington.

I keep hearing Paulie is gonna go. there aren't a lot of 1B in the AL that are tearing it up right now. Morneau is better but been hurt. Maybe Tino, but he's fallen off after that big couple of weeks. And if Paulie keeps hitting well, and gets his average over .250, his power will get him into the ASG. Let's hope he doesn't do the HR derby though.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) I'd also say too bad Jose is on the DL for the Dodgers...if anyone knows the Twinkies around there, it'd be him. Plus, he's hitting like .290 career against Mays and .333 career against Silva, with 9 hr off those 2 (and he has 5 career blasts of Radke, the Sunday starter, although he only hit .243 against them). Only?! ONLY?!?!?! That's fantastic for the Hose...

QUOTE(hi8is @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) being an out of state fan, and not wanting to pay full price for MLB extra innings after 40 percent of the season is done.... im looking towards MLB TV as an option i have a DSL line was wondering how the quality is and if it is worth it any info would be great I have it. It's ok. Not the best, but it works pretty well. I have a friend that's a Cubs fan and he bought it last year and I just piggybacked off him, so I had to buy it this year. I don't really use it other than having the occasional day game on at work. If you really want to see the Sox, though, it's worth it. Occasionally, you will get the other teams feed though.
