  1. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) You realize that would be ten times better than our OF right????? If Maggs is healthy and plays even 75% of what he has played throughout his career let's do a little comparison: Sox LF: Rowand. Young, improving. Works his butt off. Cubs LF: Ordonez. Injury extent unknown. even if he plays next year, he won't be 100%. See Rowand, wrist. Thomas, arm. Sox CF: Podsednik. One good year. One bad year. Works his tail off. Still had 70 steals. Would switch positions if its for good of the team. Cubs CF: Patterson. "Five tool player." I hope some of those tools are craftsman tools, because I think he needs to take them back. excellent CF defense. strikes out too much. pulls the ball too much. won't switch positions for the good of the team. Sox RF: Dye. Injury prone but has proven he's a good hitter. Has integrity. Above average fielder. Works his butt off. Cubs RF: Sosa. I don't think I need to lay out what he takes from the table. Advantage: Sox!!!
  2. From the files of the obvious: "Andreas will have to receive psychological help for years." Ohhhhhh, I assumed he would be fine without a tongue or penis for the rest of his life.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Maggs will come back first, but he is not going to have a good year. I get the feeling that Maggs will start playing late in ST, and Frank will be back in June. But I think both of them will struggle this year because of their injuries. I can't even imagine Maggs being ready to play by ST. I'm guessing ASB at the earliest.

  5. How about who comes back first...Big Frank or Maggs? My money's on Frank... Side Bet...better numbers for first year after he comes back.
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) You're the only hamster fiend around here that I know of. Unless Richard Gere posts here. If I were the judge: "I think we should all give a big shout out to God or Darwin or whoever you believe in for giving us opposable thumbs. That way you can hit the channel up or channel down button to flip on Pax and watch the Elayne Boosler hit 'Balderdash,' or perhaps the 700 Club is on somewhere? Possibly the Discovery Channel on snakes that eat rats alive and whole...no, wait, don't do that, you might get sick and bump your head. CASE DISMISSED!!!" I don't think this guys bile + head bump = $2.5 million. Especially if AJ Pierzynski isn't.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) I think any talk of Ordonez and discount probably went out the window with Boras as his agent.... And wasn't Clement going to give the Sox a similar deal??? It's a negotiation ploy Also, Maggs really needs to have some form of workout before any team should think about including him in their plans I wonder if Boras would allow a workout? He's not going to get Nomar money either.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) Oh, crap, I didn't know he was actually sending his message from an aircraft carrier in the Pacific in the 1940s. Sheesh, I assumed he was alive today and sitting at a f***ing computer somewhere. How silly of me. I'm so sorry. Thread.......hijacked........call..............admins............................
  9. QUOTE(USAF_11F4H @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Tribune report of Ordonez supposedly offering "home town discount" to Cubs. How wrong would *that* be.... So, their outfield would be a gimp, an underacheiver and Corky the Chimp Boy. have fun with that northsiders.
  10. QUOTE(raff @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) if this doesnt go through, i sure hope timo can be our starting catcher and bat .270+ and by the way, dude, jap is not the preffered nomenclature, asian american, please... (life points to whoever comes up first with the movie that is from, the underlined word was changed to fit this post) I believe that would be The Big Lebowski. The rug is not the issue, dude. These deals WILL get done. then expect a couple of minor league invites and we are done for the post season. Whether you like his moves or not, he said he was going to change the makeup of this team and he sure as s*** did that. Points for following through KW!!!
  11. I am abstaining in my vote because since Reagan was president what I've heard from people voting is, "i voted for the lesser of two evils." This isn't a way to run a country. I tend to vote Democrat because socially, I am. As for a smaller government, it seems odd to me that Clinton cut government programs and jobs to try to balance the budget, but the Bushes, Sr. and Jr. had and have big deficits. Although, 9/11 and Afghanistan screwed that up to some extent, so I don't blame Dubya for that part. Also, Cheney, as much as I dislike that sourpuss, I did like what he said about gay marriage...it should be up to the states. Now, THAT is a Republican way of thinking. Bush, on the other hand, would probably rip the paper the bill is printed on, he would be so excited to sign it into law. Juggs, i just don't think the GOP and Dems mean or represent what they originally were set up for anymore. They don't worry about us, they worry about keeping their jobs. I believe it was Andrew Sheppard in The American President who said, "I was so busy trying to KEEP my job, that I forgot to DO my job." And yes, I know, he was a Dem.
  12. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) a tribute for those of you who post from work... LMAO!!! I have some good ideas but no time to do them because of work. stupid work.
  13. Amazing that the Yankees payroll will be above $200 mil in just 5 years. Yikes.
  14. that's what baseball is all about...potential. That's why there are so many minor league levels and 50 rounds in the draft. Granted there are 25 major league roster spots per team, but filter that down to every level...that's a potential of 100-150 more players in your system. And that's not including the independent leagues or players overseas. Ben Davis was a number 2 draft pick...Mike Piazza in the 41st round. Who had more potential at the time of their drafts? All teams take chances, there are more factors involved in the success of a baseball player than there are in any other sport, except maybe hockey.
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) She's hideous dude, has a nose like a foot and an awkward body. That made me laugh. What I wonder, though, is how much of this is her father's doing. He seems like a weasel. He has one very talented daughter (although I personally am not fond of her music, I am fond of her lungs ) and one not-so-talented daughter. I wonder if he leveraged Jessica's talent to get Ashlee this record deal. And, having been through Waco, there isn't much "street" there.
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) ROFLMFAO. On M,J,&H they are doing this thing called the dead pool where people call in a give a prediction for someone who will die soon. Someone said Mariotti. Later in the segment, talking about it being tasteless, the ony guy was like, come on, it's not like were rooting for them to be dead...except Mariotti. I wonder if he is trying to get a full time at ESPN like Woody Paige did?
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Folks.. franchises are registered as separate corporations and it is a legal no-no for corporations to co-mingle funds without getting into serious legal trouble. Companies can do it legally by creating subsidiaries within and having funds transfer hands by "fake" contracts, but I can not even think of a single way for the two to legally "co-mingle" funds..... They are two completely separate businesses. Is that true even if they are owned under an umbrella, let's say, for instance, let's say the Bulls and White sox are owned by the same group of owners that have incorporated. The new corp. is called SoxBulls, Inc. Would they be able to shift funds between teams then?
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) That is incorrect. The Sox knew that A.J. had cleared waivers a few days before we resigned Ben Davis. Anyways, if it's true that we're not offering enough money, then I can confidently say we won't be getting A.J. KW said we weren't going to get into a bidding war for him, and Pierzynski will definitely get 3 million from some other team (Dodgers, Pirates, etc.) Would anyone argue with me that we have the worst catching core in the majors now? If he wants a better chance to win...the Sox are his best chance.
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) I'll take his .590 ops over Timo's .420 ops anyday of the week.. then again they both are horrible, horrible players. Where'd you get .420 ops...it's a whopping .623!!
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Reserve outfielders are a dime a dozen. Hell, the week after we signed Timo for one million, two other reserves in D. Mohr and Hollandsworth, who are a lot better than Timo, signed for base contracts which were cheaper. Another thing about a reserve outfielder is that you want them to be good enough on defense where they can be brought in as a defensive replacement if needed. Timo has a good arm, but his range in the outfield is pathetic. C'mon, Hollandsworth is injury prone and Mohr isn't a good outfielder. Check out the Z Ratings. Timo had some clutch hits for us last year and filled in pretty well for Maggs when he was in there. It's $1 million...if he isn't working out for us, we can trade him...he is a very serviceable 4th OF.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) If it's true that we're about 500k or a million dollars short of what A.J. wants, the Timo contract will piss me off even more. We would be basically sacrificing a catcher who would play 120 games at least for a below average backup outfielder who would start about 30 games, barring injuries. Why is it always about other players contracts? Maybe the Sox scouts don't believe he is worth that much more. It's like an auction. There is a price you won't go over. Or perhaps another team outbids us. There has to be some sort of line that the Sox won't go over. This is how you get A Rod's contract...it's a slippery slope. Player A gets $2 mil a year. Player B and his agent think he's worth more than player A and asks for and gets $4 mil...etc.
  22. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) I wouldn't rest my Hopes in this Jap guy. Kazao Matsui anyone? Ichiro Suzuki, Kaz Sasaki, Akinori Otsuka, Hideki Matsui anyone?
  23. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Would someone mind giving me a quick summary of what happened with Mariotti? 3 sentences or less will do just fine Mgmt said to tone down smack talk on Sox and Bulls. He said, I'm not changing for anybody because I have principles. Mgmt laughs, says, you suck and moves on.
