  1. Since we seemingly caved it's weird we didn't have him up here knowing we were going to dump Rios. Oh well it's one game. Hope he gets in anyways.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) You left out the 2 PTBNL's . I know we all want some instant gratifcation but everyone who clamored for a rebuild should be happy. This is how it's done. Yea we didnt get a Will Myers but who got anything this year for veterans ? It's just a bad time for getting prospects . I'd call it bad timing not bad trades. W're all still living in the world of the previous years and that's not the way it is now. Those players are not guaranteed to happen. That's why I left it out. Agreed it was bad timing, but that can make for bad trades as well.
  3. So far we have turned Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, Jesse Crain, and Matt Thorton into Avisail Garcia, Brandon Jacobs and Oh boy, that's rough Ricky. Let's hope you know what you're doing.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:48 PM) You should have kept reading. The actuallyn should be to have a plan. I'm not sure what Hahn's is. But he's clearing money when there's a very weak FA classdon'thich was alluded to in Jim's article you keep litalent g to. There are caps on the draft and international signings. There simply is nowhere to spend all this money in the immediate term. Accepting that, and looking at our available resources, it becomes clear that we do not have the talent in-house, nor the supply in the open market to drastically improve anytime soon. If you accept that, then what we should do is what the team across town is doing - converting current resources to future resources. The goal is build an organization that can challenge for championships consistently. Great post again. I've always been one of JRs biggest defenders. So many over the years have called him cheap when he never actually was. But for all the reasons above I really think the plan is to drastically cut back our spendings. These moves don't make any sense otherwise. That is lowering the talent at the major league level significantly while only incrementally improving the minor league system. I hope I am wrong though. Right now it is just a waiting game until winter to see the plan.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) If the White Sox had traded Peavy for Jose Iglesias, would you be saying the same thing? Iglesias for Peavy would be terrible. I called it such when we indeed thought that was the trade.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Freeing up all that money does BOTH...but we just have to be patient and wait to spositionow it's reinvested. There might not be immediate gratification, as the results of all these moves won't start to make sense until the offseason following 2014. I'm not sure freeing up money does much of either though. I mean we SHOULD have tons of cash already. Draft caps put an end to how much we can really improve our system through spending. On the retool side, again we had tons of cash available. I think at best you use this money to sign his valued equivalent. I guess he will be a different position. My real guess though is none of this happens. The cash isn't reinvested much of anywhere as the organization cuts back hard.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) We got a 22 year old slick fielding SS whose floor appears to be "really good utility player" and whose ceiling could very well be "Better than the guy the Red Sox sent to Detroit for Garcia". One in the same...except one is still a better glove than the other. You're right. I'm not sure how acquiring a utility infielder helps a rebuild.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) Me neither. I'm glad everyone is drinking the cool-aid now but with the way we're going, I fear the best case scenario is either a rebuilt team that maybe becomes competitive a long ways down the road, or some reincarnation of our recent strategy of retooling that accomplishes nothing more than the previous few teams have. I'm just not a fan of selling off these guys for nothing when we'll probably just resign similar players. This talk of Morales makes me ill. Good post. It is weird to see the kool-aid drank here since this trade does little to nothing to help either side of the spectrum, the rebuild crowd or the retool crowd. We will see what the plan is this offseason.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) Agreed, maybe we can claim Rios next year when he's on waivers I do agree with you though I would love for Texas to be terrible next year to see what they get for Rios.
  10. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) The purpose of freeing up the money isn't to use it right away, having flexibility is very valuable. For a bad team? Why? I mean I get why some flexibility is nice, but not much, not for a terrible team. I don't think we are a flexible as we thought. I'm guessing we simply dont want to spend that much money and will see a considerable dump in expenses.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) LOL did you just refer to Rios as a great major leaguer. This team is not filled with a ton of assets and the average player like Rios sox fans over value because he may be the best on our roster sadly. Dont you think Hahn did all he could trying to find a team willing to give SOMETHING he liked in their minor leagues for Rios? Not to mention Rios has helped the Sox at all with his attitude. No, I did not. I said above average to great referring to Peavy and Rios. Sox fans over valuing Rios? Now that's a new one. I'm sure Hahn did. It doesn't make it a great return or anything to get excited about.
  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) The players on this team have proved to be the worst team in the league. When you start trading said players why the heck would anyone expect to get someone to give you anything near their top talent? We are extremely lucky to have these other teams desperate enough to take on the contractsit'sood job Hahn. Reallllllly? Why would the team's performance have anything to do with it. Turning two above average to great major leaguers into essentially Avisail Garcia and cash is a poor return no matter how some homers want to spin it. That said it is far from the end of the world and can work out in our favor but that will have to wait until the offseason. Right now it's a mediocre at the very best.
  13. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:13 PM) Wow we got nothing..... If true, Hahn has turned two of our three best best players on the opening day roster into Garcia and cash. Talk about rookie abuse, lol.
  14. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) Compared to his mega season a few years ago. He will still get a good haul, but the sox have money to spend We had tons of money to spend regardless. No reason for a salary dump here
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) This. Hahn had no reason to settle. Who on their 40 man would we realistically want? Not sure but im guessing this is the case. No reason for us to send cash otherwise.
  16. If that ptbnl isn't someone good on the 40 man, this is an awful trade.
  17. His only meaningful background is being a terrible MLB player. There's no point to getting rid of him now but since there is 0% chance he's with the Sox next opening day it doesn't matter either way.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) I can't wait until next year when everyone has declared Phegley a complete failure and wants him gone on waivers. Don't try and draw up comparisons between him and Flowers. Flowers has been up for 5 seasons, 3 full ones. He's bad. Phegley will likely be bad too, but he has time. I still would not mind getting a longer term solution at C since we have the cash.
  19. He's been in the majors 3 years now. Nothing is turning on. He is a terrible baseball player. He certainly won't be here next year, so who cares if we let him go. Obviously I don't really care if he finishes the season with us,as long as he doesn't take at bats from Phegley.
  20. QUOTE (bulokis @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 06:30 AM) Cant wait to see a rotation of Sale, Erik Johnson, Quintana, Rienzo and Danks/Santiago Um....
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) There is absolutely zero chance that we let Tyler go. Zero. We should
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 5 AM) Still might get done if the Sox get Sardinas if the Rangers envision a DP combo of Profar and Odor for the near future . Sardinas and an A pitcher Sox eat $3 mill. What's the love for him anyways? I know he's young, but looking at his numbers he hasn't been able to hit. I would like to stay away from defensive minded middle infielders. The Rangers community site ranks him number 7 on their list. Eh. Gallo is second and Nick Williams is third.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) They are dumb then. Without Nick Swisher, the White Sox don't make the playoffs in 2008, but you don't see people claiming his acquisition from Oakland was a good one. He had a negative WAR that year. We still make the playoffs. He was truly awful.
  24. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:16 AM) JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1m White Sox are not getting Perez, Jackson or Odor for Rios but if price drops to Nick Martinez it could get done...tick tick tick tock Expand Daily Jim Bowden is horrible reminder.
