  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) As I wrote in the other thread, if the Sox get their payroll down to ~$40M for '14 & '15 and will spend $75M-$80M each year they can offer ~$60M in discounts to any team that acquires a player. Say the Braves want to dump Upton's contract and there's a team willing to take him for $20M, the Sox would be able to take on the rest of his contract for the right prospects.
  2. We have all the leverage in the world. Shoot for the stars Hahn.
  3. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) 1) Get Garcia in the lineup and let him make adjustments at the major league level. He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B. 1) They want Garcia in CF. 2) we have enough money off the books already that we aren't likely to spend it all.
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) Hopefully get something in return, If not let him go and bring Garcia up! There's no point in just letting him go.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) Neal Cotts coming back from the Rangers..... Your wording is bad.
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) You gotta be kidding. Gillaspie is better. I was mainly joking on how awful the 3b market is. I wouldn't recommend any of them...or Gillaspie for that matter.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) A team can waive, at most, 7 players a day in August. That too, just saying there is a reason Rios wasn't put on immediately.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) Dunn and Reynolds in the same lineup would be bizarre. Yeah, it can't happen.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) So which team has lost a few in a row? We might surmise that Hahn thought he had a good match with one of those teams. Well Texas is tearing up. I don't think they're going to get passed on by anyone notable soon, so may as well put Rios up.
  10. Mark Reynolds DFAd by the Indians. He's probably the best 3b FA next offseason.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) This is very plausible and very unfortunate. BAL is just slightly ahead of Texas in the claim order. Makes you wonder -- say if Hahn WANTED Texas to claim Rios, would it have made sense for him to watch the records and wait until they had lost a couple games before he officially put Rios on waivers, in order to give them the best chance of winning the claim? Yeah. It's a reason why guys arent all dumped August first
  12. Obviously it would really be dumb to dump him, but hopefully Texas claimed him so we can work something out.
  13. One of the worst position players I can remember in a Sox uniform. Funny, we all loved the move when we claimed him. He needs to convert to pitcher if he wants a future MLB career.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) 1. They probably would not do it for just #5 prospect. 2. If there is a better use of $60M over the next couple of years in a rebuilding you tell me. Would you rather have a 30-something free agent locked up through '17 for that amount? Yes. I would much rather have Brian McCann for that amount, as would anyone.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 05:17 AM) I was looking at Flowers on 3rd on the replay and even though he might've judged it to be very deep , I was surprised to see him halfway down the line towards home. I mean why ? It lands you walk home from 3rd and he catches it you tag up easy by just staying at 3rd. I think there were two outs, no? Which then he should have been home.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04: post=) Hawk and Stone are actually very nice to listen to now that Hawk has accepted we are going to suck for the immediate future. Not sure why folks don't care for Stone. Stone is awesome, just not with Hawk. He's the best local baseball guy around by far but it doesn't show. Hawk and Wimpy are so good together. Even Hawk haters will admit that.
  17. Yankees catchers really struggling to throw.
  18. How do you let him steal so easily on a pitch out? The fundamentals on this team...
  19. I'm shocked Flowers struck out vs. Rivera
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:17 AM) Yeah, I can't defend Wells. I'm not a big fan. We all loved the signing too.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:12 AM) How awesome is Beckham at barreling up pitches now Yep. He looks awesome at the plate. Dunn I thought would be lost up there. Now that Rivera is off the hook we can lose now.
  22. Screw this losing thing, that was AWESOME. Eat it Mariano.
