QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) You make a good point. Now having seen Q in both left and right... if he's going to play the field, they should definitely play him where he'll do the least damage... which suggests moving him back to left. If both Jones and Quentin are playing corners during a game, there is absolutely no good reason to play Quentin at the more challenging defensive position. If I were managing, I'd install Jones as my regular right fielder... and have Quentin DH and occasionally play LF. Q is a natural rightfielder. I don't know what you remember, but he wasn't particularly good in rightfield. On an individual level, Q definitely belongs in right. But I still do believe the right move would be Pierre/Rios/Jones across. That's a pretty elite defensive outfield right there. Or switch Jones and Rios for those who believe Jones is still an elite CF (which many people do).

There was a game between SIU/UI scheduled for last season but cancelled at the very last second due to scheduling conflicts. Weber has actually always been open to playing SIU, but Lowery always wanted a return game. I'm not sure if that's the exact reason it has always been held up, but there's no reason for the Illini to give a return game. They're doing the favor of playing SIU to begin with. -

QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier. Who cares who was ahead of him? The guy has put up a .335+ OBP once once in the last 5 years. He's far from that this year. He's just not a good lead-off option, whether he's a career .300 hitter or not. -

Why is the Sox defense force out in full force today? Probably picked the wrong game for that, but I hope we can somehow turn it around. -

LOL at pinch hitting for your 3 hitter in the 7th. Ozzie should concede his job after that. -

Got screwed out of the Sox game on FOX, but the game they put on instead has been fun to watch. 0-0 going to the 15th. Over 5 hours long, bet the Fox brass love that. Twice have relievers had to come to bat with the bases loaded.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:03 AM) Go figure, we go out and dominate, and the game thread only reaches 23 pages. If that score were opposite, there'd be 50+ game thread pages Yesterday's disastrous 1 hit loss was only 27 pages. Today's was 23 pages, more than likely because the game was on WCIU which a great portion of this board does not get. Winning gamethreads don't really show much of a difference in number of posts when compared to losing ones.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Based on actual statistics they are very close players already No, they aren't. McCamey was 2nd in the country in assists with a terrific a/to ratio. Buford wasn't nearly as dynamic, hence why he sat on the Big Ten's 3rd team while McCamey was on the 1st, finishing with the 2nd most votes. You could argue other players, but certainly not Buford. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) So ignore any actual statistical proof basically? You said no one in his league, clearly you werent accurate with that statement. If you think you were, please let us know what league McCamey is in. ??? I'm not sure what you mean. McCamey was clearly better no matter what measure you use. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:04 AM) Any near McCamey's caliber? McCamey's soph stats 11.5 pts 2.6 rebs 4.6 assists Junior 15.1 3.6 7.1 Willaim Buford soph 14.4 5.6 3.1 Junior? Most likely an improvement, especially taking away all of Turner's possessions. And the overall talent is much better at OSU, with Buford, Lighty and Diebler returning and the best recruiting class. I think anyone who watched the Big Ten will say that McCamey is the best player and it's not much a discussion. The only ones who could be in any argument would be someone on Purdue. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) OSU is definitely the 3rd team with all the talent they have, even without Turner. Jenks, I love how you talk up the Illini, but you are giving freshmen Richmond & Leonard all kinds of credit with helping UI, while discounting how much Sullinger & co. will help OSU, when their recruiting class is much better. OSU also doesn't return the best player in the Big Ten, or any near McCamey's caliber really.. That may be the difference between the two teams. -

The Big Ten is going to be scarey good next season. OSU, MSU, Purdue, and Illinois are all legitimate top 15 teams. Minny, UW, and NU form a pretty good 2nd tier. The bottom looks pretty bad as usual, but whatever. -
I watched The King of Comedy today. One of the best films I've ever seen. Also saw A Pistol for Ringo. Pretty good spaghetti western if you're into that.

Well I'd include the link here, but I don't think we have one right now. Usually there has been a link on the front page but that has been removed too. EDIT (link): http://www.soxtalk.com/chat/chatroom.html Come hungry, come often.

Outstanding Bill Simmons article

His argument is terrible. Why do stats take away from watching the game? They don't. And guess what, stats have always meant a ton in baseball. That was true ten years ago. That was true fifty years ago. Just because the names have changed shouldn't mean anything, just that we know a little more at what we're doing. -

So HBK's really going through with it, eh? Anyone have any video of his speech. I stopped watching wrestling awhile ago, but would love to see it. Was pretty much my idol growing up. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) Wow, then I definitely don't see why you care. And to put this in a little more perspective, I've had a girlfriend who wasn't very fond of a couple of my friends and didn't want me to hang out with them much. That pissed me off, especially since she assumed she had a right to tell me who I could and couldn't be friends with. You say this girl has a lot of male friends, so the situation is sort of similar. Yeah, as I said, I'm not sure why I care so much either. Perhaps I'm more concerned than I care to admit, I don't know.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) I think that his chosen approach is bordering on relationship suicide. It's never the woman's fault (even if it is). It is what it is. It's caused me enough stress already and I'm still not sure why. I'm really not concerned with her cheating or anything. She's in absolute love with me, were together everyday, and in constant contact when were not. I guess what I want out of this is for her to genuinely hate this guy, because he is a not so good person, disrespected her in the past, and still has bad intentions now. Yes, I'm gonna be pissed if she defends him in any way and will definitely be concerned if she does. Now those last sentences did sound a little controlling. Oh well, I'm gonna roll with it, it bothers me that much for some reason.
