  1. Ripkin's is the least likely to be broken, I think. That's largely due to just the style of managing these days with giving off-days to everyday players to keep the bench fresh. I think DiMaggio's is more impressive, but will someday be broken. I think the most impressive thing about it is that after his one hitless game, he started another 20+ game hit streak. That record could be 80 games!
  2. Was Stoops coaching 'his' team? I dunno, after seeing recruiting "Willingham's team" looks like crap if you ask me. I think the whole 8-0 in 2002 was more of a placebo effect where the team was just glad to be rid of Davie. I think this season really tests his mettle and if it doesn't turn out well, that's the end of him. What does everyone think of him as a coach?
  3. of sheffield, matsui, and ordonez, which one could play CF?
  4. Nope. Said the same thing on the other thread. I still support him and hope to see the 2003 Loaiza, but I'm not too hopeful. I am glad that he was our only all-star. It's tough to explain, but I think there's a better feeling within this group as a unit when all of our real stars were left off the list this year.
  5. Do you think we'd even hear about such an offer, though? If KW puts together a package to get Unit and it doesn't get him here, that could seriously affect the morale of the players that would have been traded.
  6. I'd heard that the Ritchie for every prospect we have trade was actually Schueler's handy work. Does anybody remember hearing anything like that? And the D. Wells trade was actually a good one even with the injury. For all the "he was a bad clubhouse guy" reports you hear, Buehrle credits Wells for his development as a pitcher. Looking at it one way, Wells did give us a solid starting pitcher (maybe somebody almost at that Ace level) for quite a while.
  7. I think Felix Diaz means that ELo is not coming back unless it's at a cheap price. To be honest, I think we have a better chance to win when Garland goes out there than when I see Loaiza taking the mound.
  8. We'll see if I can get out of work early enough to do that...
  9. Garcia is 10-2 with around a 2.39 ERA against the Angels
  10. I want Ben Sheets as much as the next guy... but I also want Curt Schilling. I have to realize that neither guy is going to come here. Sheets is too young and too good. He's got 2 years left of arbitration (meaning, 1 more year of arbitration after his contract is up, I believe. He's signed through 05, right?).
  11. I'll believe that when I see it! Yeah, they're both pretty solid. Only time will tell which will be better, I suppose. Don't get me wrong, MB is one of my favorites on this team. Let's just hope him and Garcia turn-out to be our "pocket aces" for the next few years.
  12. I think the same can be said of Garcia. Plus he's got some post-season experience and stuff that can be flat out dominating. I haven't been too impressed with MB the last two seasons. He's had some good outings, but he really seems to have struggled. I'm not sure what his deal is. I hope that he rights the ship and gets more consistent throughout the second half and delivers more outings like the last two he's given us!
  13. oh, ok. you're right. mb is better
  14. also because he's a better pitcher than MB...
  15. So does this new contract extend to 2007 or 2008? Is this replacing this year's deal or would it add-on 3 more seasons after this one?
  16. I'm going to the game tonight... maybe they'll announce it afterwards?
  17. If they don't go at least 7-4 does Willingham get fired (please say yes...)
  18. Black Jack woulda been to the Sox what McMahon was to the Bears if the strike in '94 didn't happen...
  19. Just like the Russ Ortiz trade they reported...
  20. What is that a picture of? Looks like spring training and a little PhotoShopping?
  21. Sweet! This is awesome if it's true!
  22. I'm actually glad that nobody made it from the Sox. I think it may have created a mini-rift in the clubhouse (ie why did ____ go and not me?). If not for the required 1 man per team, we probably wouldn't have sent anybody. I think instead there will be more of an "us against them" sort of attitude. Plus, I'm not sure that anybody on the team truly deserved to go. This is more of a team than a bunch of individuals that play well. It's a credit to the manager and how he has pulled this group together as a unit, that we have amassed the record we have without any all-stars.
  23. I think Diaz's pseudo-emergence is going to make Loiaza a bit expendable. I'd like to see Garcia resigned and a serious offer made to Carl Pavano. If we can't get Carl, then make a mid-level offer to Loiaza.
