I believe this is something that Ozzie learned from Cox. He understands that as important as it is to win early in the season, that typically the team with the healthiest roster and specifically the healthiest bullpen down the stretch will tend to run away with things. Ozzie treats his roster in the same way he would a Little League team: he plays everybody. This gives the everyday players a break and valuable at-bats for the bench. I think my dad said it best that it seems like Ozzie has a role in mind for each of his players.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) My mind is so deeply entrenched in computer science that it's no wonder my posts reflect that kind of discipline. Sweet, me too! Any specific area within Computer Science?

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) It is time for Juan to contribute to the cause. Hey, somebody's gotta pick up alll those Ks we lost when Jose departed.

BOOM goes the dynamite (hopefully)

Konerko is pretty tradeable, with that 220 average and high salary. That's just what ever team wants!
-
Maybe Marte will give up some runs.

Chavez hit a HR in the As game if anyone cares.
-
We should trade Everett then trade back for him.

The entire article is based on the Thomas quote, "I've got to get more at-bats"

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Are you cheering for the Twinks? he's a Twins fan, I think. -
Frank can only play for an AL team in 2006 and his options are going to be really limited. I think they'll work something out for next season.
-
Frank is going to hit a walk-off homerun to win the World Series in Game 7 and during the post-game interview will announce that he's going to leave the game on top.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) P.S. - I told you all that Sizemore scared the hell out of me. I hate that guy, he's turning into a Sox killer (like there's not enough of those bastards around). The good news is that they're not all on the Indians anymore, like they used to be.

high socks = homerun

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) The people will come, the people will most-definitely come. "Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it's money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. And the memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh,.. people will come Ray. People will most definitely come."

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I still beleive El Duque will be coming out of the bullpen if we make it to the playoffs. Count has pitched very well and you can;t deny him of that, He got unlucky in like 5 starts, so what. El Duque hasn;t been pitching too great lately but has been getting the W's. It's a toss up. In the playoffs, I'd rather have the wins.

QUOTE(marsh @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) I think Borchard is still a member of the "Untouchables". More like, Untradeables.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I'd be willing to bet El Duque has missed more games than Wood the past 5 years... or at least it's close. Since 2001, Kerry Wood has 120 starts and El Duque has 64, so yeah, you're right. -

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) I could've sworn Hernandez started the fourth game of the year, not the fifth. Maybe my math is wrong. True, but the Sox weren't counting on an injury prone pitcher to perform like an "ace" or a "top of the rotation" class pitcher. -

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) The current Cub winning streak is predicated on the starters going long. Rusch threw 122 pitches in the last win. No rotation can continuously rack up high pitch counts start after start & remain healthy. Eventually they are going to have to rely on that pen again & the losing streak will start. Precisely. The short-term benefits of the Cubs having their starters pitch long into games will most likely come back to haunt them in August and September. The Cubs absolutely cannot win games where their bullpen has to pitch extended (i.e. 2+) and important innings. Their seven game winning streak: 3 wins against the horrible Rockies, 3 wins against a flagging Dodgers team, 1 win against a division leader. Let's see how they do over the next seven games. To do this, they've had to have outstanding (not good, not great, but outstanding) starting pitching efforts, even with white-hot performances by Lee and Ramerez. -
Another OF/DH type... sweet

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) haha i knows its pretty damn s***ty, but it gives us an idea of what he'd look like in a Sox uniform. not too shabby, actually.

Photoshop him into a Sox uni, and that'll be hot.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 06:49 AM) I hope so. I am scared that the Twins are going to be within a game of us or even overtake us by the All-Star break. That friggin team is relentless. We were ahead of the Twins at the ASB last year, just for some perspective. Well, hopefully we can beat up on the Indians and the Yankees can beat up on the Twins.

I'd love to upgrade at 3B, since that's really the only position we don't have an established (read: veteran who has played well at sometime in his career), but even then, Crede has had a great stretch to end a season.
