5/18 Games
With Moncada on DL and Collins sitting out, it helps illustrate how little offensive talent there is in the system after top guys

Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 18, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Let's say Robertson is performing well... when looking at what some teams have paid to get closers at the deadline for playoff runs, is Robles really too much to ask? Easily too much. Soto or Kieboom probably too much unless Sox pay a ton of money.

I had no idea Pavin Smith has been so mediocre in ACC play. A big no thanks to drafting him

Faedo should be pitching on ESPN tonight. Watched a lot of highlights of him and almost all his strikeouts on the slider

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:06 AM) I keep expecting Frazier to start turning things around and it's just not happening. He looks finished. Even when he makes good contact, ball isn't jumping like last year

Another game with multiple rockets hit by Anderson

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:55 AM) I'm just not sure where he's going with this. Is this another case of Caufield being Caulfield or does he not remember Rodon's improvements from the previous year? If he doesn't like what Rodon showed his first two years, he's going to hate the pitchers coming up from the minors the next few years

Wow what a battle between Avi and Anderson this inning. Fun bad time

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:37 AM) Watching the struggles of Rodon and now Fulmer, it's pretty obvious that taking the top college arm doesn't always equate to an automatic slam dunk (and sure, Kolek/Aiken haven't done much, either). It's not Dillon Tate bad, but it just goes to show how uncertain scouting can be. Look no further than Gordon Beckham and Viciedo on the hitting side. Or Courtney Hawkins (he's now replaced Mitchell as our case study in bad drafting.) The White Sox simply HAVE to be better at evaluating talent...especially when they can no longer afford to have a Top 10-12 payroll. What Rodon struggles on the field? He was on track to be a stud coming into the year. Fulmer always had a lot of question marks, as did Tate and Jay.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:33 AM) I think you are letting this series cloud your judgement a bit. I just haven't seen him do anything special in-game. I think he does a great job relating and motivating the players, but Hawk saying he's one of Reinsdorf's best moves ever seems like a very premature statement

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:23 AM) Meanwhile, players like Aaron Hicks go to the Yankees and become All-Stars. This day/night has been a total disaster. Moncada on the DL. Fulmer blasted. Swarzak's luck runs out (ERA still a miniscule 1.37). Of course, it's hard to get TOO upset when it's Mike Trout doing the damage. He's pretty good. There will be many, many days like this during the rebuild. By all accounts, Moncada will be fine. Fulmer is never going to be a TOR starter.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 18, 2017 -> 05:24 AM) I love that Renteria gave Swarzak a pep talk while taking him out. He needs to be our manager for a good long while. Also, can we just not pitch to Trout, like, ever? When did Renteria become this managerial god? Hawk was gushing about him earlier, and while I think he's a huge improvement from Ventura, he doesn't come across as a very good in-game coach.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 18, 2017 -> 04:39 AM) Well.. people want these vets to not rush the prospects in the system and eat up innings.. perfect for a rebuilding team who needs a top 3 pick next season. Yeah I have no problem with Holland on the roster. Would have been nice for him to have high trade value, but that was never likely.

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2017 -> 04:29 AM) When I looked last night, he was in the back end of the Top 30 for WHIP and BAA (MLB)...I'm pretty sure both those categories. Obviously he has a ton of UER's on his record, so there's that. Has a low BABIP so far. Also throwing less grounders than ever, which won't be fun at a warm Guaranteed Rate Field

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2017 -> 04:22 AM) Anderson finally cracks the 600 OPS mark, now at 607. Holland has some pretty decent peripherals (outside of ERA), playoff experience and LHed, definitely the most desirable of those three veteran starters. We'll just have to hope Cabrera and Frazier will get hot at some point. The back of their baseball cards say they will, but Melky was pretty terrible for almost all of 2015, so who knows. You'd think he would want another run at playoff baseball. Nate Jones has a decent amount of value, but now the health questions are starting to get bigger and bigger...kind of like what happened with Jesse Crain, where we failed to extract maximum value and waited too long. Holland's peripherals are not good. Velocity already down a bit from April

Frazier hard hit pct down 6 from last year and 12 from 2015. He's also pulling the ball more now than ever.
