It's very confusing to me why a hitter wasn't brought up instead of a reliever. The Sox only have 2 bench players available if Jackson is still hurt (Sands, Navarro). As for the bullpen, they just had a day off and have Monday off also. With Sale and Q going, it's unlikely you're going to need a significant number of innings covered this weekend (as long as Rodon doesn't implode).
