Unless Sox are planning on spending this offseason to upgrade the offense, this could be a great chance to acquire some good prospects while freeing up money. No need for a high-priced closer if you aren't serious about competing.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:07 AM) Go take another look at the White Sox position players draft under Williams by career WAR. It's not a performance close to that of a winner. Bad doesn't begin to describe our scouting. Which is why they keep sticking to drafting pitchers. I heard the same segment that you did on the radio.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 04:50 AM) We are equally as irrelevant. Again. Spinning the wheel going for it all. Fail. Repeat. Not even close. Those teams could only dream of having Rodon. Those teams are also in stacked divisions going forward.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:37 AM) It doesn't matter where you draft. You're going to get a good player allegedly in the top 15 picks. Who cares if they pick No. 4 vs No. 10. Not me. So much wrong with this post

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 04:35 AM) Already have Cubs fan friends saying on FB that Arrieta pitched the best game since Kerry Wood's 20 Ks. I...I can't. Makes sense as they probably became Cubs fans this year
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:17 AM) Well said. 2014 Royals are a good recent example. Hopefully Arrieta stops pitching like the best pitcher on the planet and isn't able to go all MadBum on the postseason.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) What is Robin's plan? Don't get me wrong, Maddon is a great manager. However, the media is so in love with him, it's ridiculous. Even saw some people giving him credit last week for him rejuvenating Castro's career by benching him. The ironic thing is Renteria was given a ton of credit last year for getting the most out of Castro.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) What is Robin's plan? To inspire his team to a dramatic comeback with 2 outs in the 9th!

QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:11 AM) Did I hear correctly that the Cubs will be traveling home wearing onesie pajamas? Remind me to stay off social media tomorrow Yep, the great Joe Maddon left Lester in to die last night, but he'll get credit for keeping them loose

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) absolutely and so will the cardinals if they get past the pirates in the play-in game Pirates have some good righty hitters to face Arrieta, who holds lefties to about a .450 OPS and righties to around .575 If you watched tonight, lefties had no prayer on his Loaiza-esque slider

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:09 AM) It's based mostly on FIP. According to advanced metrics Sale and Kluber have been the two best pitchers in the AL this year. The only reason I'm not a fan of FIP is that it puts so much emphasis on strikeouts.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:07 AM) Bottom line, NL = NBA Eastern Conference, AL = NBA Western Conference. I believe Sale would absolutely dominate in the NL and I have yet to see factual evidence provided in this thread that would change my mind. Sure you can call the statistics that I cited as insignificant due to sample size but what statistics do you have that would prove this small sample size should be completely disregarded? I agree Sale would probably benefit being in the NL probably more than just about anyone. The NL seems to really struggle hitting offspeed pitches. Also, Sale would dominate pitchers trying to bat so much, he could easily pitch around the 8 hitter if he's in trouble. I've seen Hammel and Samardzija dominate in the NL with their offspeed pitches and look like trash in the AL throwing the same pitches.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:04 AM) fWAR: 1) Kershaw: 6.6 2) Sale: 5.8 ... 8) Arrieta: 4.9 ... 14) Quintana: 3.8 I have more of an idea for offense, but how is that figured out for pitchers? Seems ridiculous if the difference between Sale and Arrieta is almost same between Arrieta and Q.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:59 AM) Sox fans with Cubs fan friends like me, brace yourself for the Arrieta > Sale comments this week... He has been so far this year...still doesn't mean I wouldn't want Sale going forward.
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) if he signs Price in the offseason, can he afford Arrieta after the 2017 season when hits free agency? Sure since their offense is incredibly cheap

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:55 AM) What is the hype level in Chicago right now compared to the Kerry Wood strikeout game? Nowhere close
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:53 AM) the Scott Feldman trade has to be one of the worst in the last 20 years. Also didn't realize arrieta is 29 Especially if Eloy Jimenez turns into a monster
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:53 AM) The Cubs are so good it hurts. They currently have two starting pitchers they can rely on. Still think Theo absolutely screwed up trade deadline.
-
Well that was bound to happen. Better now than in the Wild Card game.
-
Well I guess Saladino won't be the lead Chicago story
-
Funny thing is that easily could have been called a hit in the 3rd. Kind of ridiculous that's an error while the Avi drop was a hit last week
-
9 strikeouts, all swinging at pitch outside the zone
-
No hitter thru 7. He dominates lefties so Mattingly put 7 in lineup
-
Shapiro to Jays

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) for some reason I feel like I've been considering the Dodgers an elite team this year, but they really aren't quite as good as I thought Awful 1-2 in their lineup doesn't help. Puig also has sucked and their trade deadline acquisitions have been horrendous. As for tonight, Arrieta is making them look silly. He's been the best pitcher in baseball the last month.
