Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 12:39 AM) I can believe Baltimore is offering 5 years but I think Crasnick is way off on the dollar amount. That proposed offer is in the range of what Gordon got and Cespedes should get more than that. Unless the offer is for 3/4 years 75-90M range, that would make more sense. Crasnick's numbers don't jive that's for sure. I could be wrong, but this seems like a push to get Davis to decide

Alexei Bell
He had no power last year. Pass

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Anyone ever think there might be a reason so many teams only want him on short deal?

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:51 PM) I'm just hoping one way or another, he signs soon so we know what the hell is going on. I would give up hope from the Sox standpoint. When's the last time they were even linked to him?

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:37 PM) That's just a projection though? I'm sure he had a negative projection last year given from past history. Players can outplay projections. Fowler went from the gigantic outfields of Houston and Colorado to a much easier CF in Chicago. Same would hold true at the Cell

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) Look at his 2016 Steamer projection http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=OF Every steamer projection I've seen for players projects a lower than usual defensive rating.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:34 PM) This. It's now or never as far as I'm concerned. Or what if they do spend a lot, Cespedes tanks, and then they have no money for upgrades for the next 3 years?

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) If there was ever going to be a time for the White Sox to spend big on a free agent...it's here and now. If not now, when exactly? When they have a roster that's not already at their set budget level. Also, maybe when there's a superstar available for them. Cespedes is absolutely not a superstar.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) I don't want to hear anymore about building for the future if they make an incremental upgrade in Fowler and lose another $10-12 million in terms of the projected short and long term value of that pick. That means you're actually dedicating $48-62 million to Fowler on a three year contract. Gigantic difference between actual money and projected money with draft pick value included, especially for a team without a huge payroll

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) He was rated positively according to fangraphs. I know it's a different position, but Rizzo was a -8.7 on defense and everyone thought he was a GG there. The 1B ratings seem way off. Nearly every 1B has a horrible rating.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) I'd be curious to know what the Sox brass thought of Alexei as a person. Not that he's a bad guy or anything like that, but as a SS who made his fair share of mental mistakes, I wonder if they just wanted to part ways short of an ultra-low dollar figure. The radio guys were definitely questioning his focus the first half of last year

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) If you were Ryan Pace and Jaylon Smith is still on the board (assuming Jack, Ramsey, and Hargreaves are off), do you still draft him? I would. Can't see them redshirting their first pick again.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) Where is Desmond going to sign now? I can't think of a logical suitor besides us, and I can't see us doing that. Wonder if a team goes after him as an outfielder. Tigers maybe?

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
I'd rather Eaton play LF with Melky in RF. Reason is simple, with all of our lefty pitchers, seems likely that there would be more balls hit to LF.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) What option would you rather choose? Sign Fowler and Jackson, move Melky to DH, lose comp pick. Sign Desmond and Jackson, lose comp pick. I don't see any possible way they sign two outfielders With that said, option 2 would be the best way to increase our chances to win

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) Would Fowler really cost $15 million/year at this point? I'm thinking the cost would be a bit lower. That's the most I would assume, especially after Parra deal and the QO factor. With Fowler, I still wonder if he waits a bit longer to see if Soler is dealt.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Say that contract you mention is what Fowler gets, I wonder if the Sox would take a look at Latos or other decent RH starters with no draft pick attached to them, then make EJ available. I think they would look at Latos, etc. while keeping Johnson. Lack of starting depth in rotation is scary beyond top 5

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) Say we do sign Fowler, does he bat 1 or 2? 2 Eaton Fowler Abreu Frazier Cabrera Lawrie Laroche catcher Saladino

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
It's pretty simple to me...makes more sense to pay Fowler 3/45 instead of Cespedes 4/100 when Cespedes isn't exactly a consistent superstar.
-
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
One thing with Fowler is that if Sox do sign him, be prepared to see him complain to the ump whenever he gets called out looking.
-
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
Fowler would be a great #2 hitter for the Sox. Also his ability to hit LHP would help overcome Eaton's shortcomings vs LHP.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) I like the other stats, but that's a ton of K's for a 2 hitter. Roughly almost one-third of his AB's were either a walk or K, wow, seems odd. Cubs asked him to be patient, so it raised his walk total while also putting him into more possible strikeout counts

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:11 PM) He's said that all offseason. Funny how him and Hayes (Merkin kind of denied it) both defended the type of player Fowler is. They didn't say anything was going to happen but talked about his OBP being great and being a good fit. Yep, noticed that with Hayes today

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 19s19 seconds ago Florida, USA alexei ramirez, padres are in agreement on 1-year deal Good for Alexei, I'll always root for him. I'm sure if the Sox are in contention and Saladino is struggling, we'll hear rumors of him as a trade possibility for the Sox.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) Saladino has played SS his entire life. Does it really matter he didn't play a few games at SS in September, when usually he isn't playing anyway? To me, the more reps the better. Especially for someone coming off of injury.
