If you traded Sale to Dodgers……...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Think Texiera return... and then add to that. Yep, and I believe Hahn will listen on Sale and make a team offer a package that's simply too good to refuse.

My/Your Off Season Plan
For the catcher spot, I'm a big Derek Norris fan. Padres willing to deal him likely with Hedges on the roster.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 01:15 AM) Looking at Soto's career numbers, I don't know how you can say anything but he just has a career type year, and is in for a huge regression next year. It's either that or Robin Ventura is a freaking genius who turned the guys career around. You pick. Wasn't his rookie year his career year?

If you traded Sale to Dodgers……...
QUOTE (Soxfan90 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 01:32 AM) It will be foolish to trade Sale, and that's all I have to say about that. Couldn't disagree more. If you can get 4-5 high caliber players (3 MLB ready and 2 big time prospects) for one pitcher with questionable mechanics, it's easily worth the risk.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) Micah failed to stick this season. You already have been ripping Montas for a little while. Why is that not selling low? If you thought they were good, you wouldn't want them traded. Do you really think you know something other teams don't? Montas was drawing rave reviews in the AFL for his velocity last year, and I didn't think he looked like a starter then. Just a feeling watching him pitch. As for Johnson, trading him would be due to a position of strength (in terms of possible assets going forward). Assuming the Sox bring in an upgrade at 3B, I'm fine with Sanchez at 2B going forward. There's always the outside chance Anderson ends up at 2nd as well. I'm not the type of poster that thinks the Sox can get value for someone like LaRoche in the offseason, so they're going to have to trade guys who other teams actually like. The only one off-limits to me is Abreu, just because he's such a better hitter than anyone else in the organization.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) And many of the same people who want to do a full rebuild... Hope you're not including me in that segment. Full rebuild makes no sense when you have already started Rodon's clock and have a pretty weak farm system to start with. I don't see why they can't be competitive in 2017 if they can maximize Sale or Quintana's trade value for young, MLB-ready players (ie: Betts)

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Unless he can pull a 3rd pitch out of his ass, a good one at that, he doesn't look like a starter. He could probably live out of the bullpen successfully right now but once guys see 95-98 and his slider once it gets easier to hit the second time around. If he picked up a splitter or a change or even worked on a cutter he would be fine, but unless he gets another plus pitch he looks like a good set up guy, not a starter. He throws hard, but it's not a deceptive fastball at all. He's going to have to learn to elevate it to be more effective if he's a closer.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Cabrera tradeable? Throw maybe 3-4 million a year in, and don't see why not. Doubt the Sox do that though.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) So Montas has one bad inning and now you want to give up on him as a starter? It's been clear that he's a big project and an unfinished product for a while now. Still too early to make that call. This board can be so reactionary at times. I've been saying this since I first saw him pitch on milb.com last year (maybe AFL?). Hope I'm wrong.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) I still wouldn't deal Montas. Judging from today he still has development left as a starter. His value isn't exactly low given his talent, but he definitely has potential and if I'm another GM im asking for him, hoping the White Sox think of Montas as a bullpen guy so they'd get him cheaper. Bring him up to Charlotte next season and have him develop a consister offspeed pitch. Perhaps he could lose a little bit if his pudge too Is a consister offspeed pitch like in Major League 2 when Vaughn lets someone name his pitch if they can hit it?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) Young guys struggle. If Soxtalk was around after Robin Ventura's rookie year, they probably would have demanded his head as a player even louder than as a manager. I don't understand the concept of this guy isn't going to be any good so the Sox should be able to get something decent for him. Other teams know the players probably better than most of us, with the possible exception of posters who watch a lot of minor league baseball, yet they aren't professional scouts. Selling low on prospects makes little sense to me. Wouldn't be selling low at all on Montas and Johnson. For Johnson, there are teams out there that love their speedy guys who have good OBP. I don't think he's a good fit with the Sox going forward due to the need for improved defense. All it takes is one GM out there to think Montas can be a starter, and you can get very good value for him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) And this game is ova. Montas, Micah Johnson and Avi are the 3 non-veterans that should absolutely be trade bait this offseason if they have value.

Ugly, ugly inning. Regardless of how he looked this game, no way does Montas project as a starter.

Who would you rather see get more PA's in 2016 for the Sox
Interesting stat is that Trayce so far is in the top 50 (out of 524 hitters) in average exit velocity. Avi is all the way down at 220. Over a 3 mph difference between them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) It is a tough call honestly. I think Garcia has a higher ceiling, but that would take him relaxing his approach a bit at the plate, which I kind of doubt happens. I also think the overrating of Thompson is approaching Brian Anderson proportions lately on Soxtalk. I think ideally the guy is a 4th OF and platoon player, which is what we have seen him do very successfully here in a small sample size with the team. I think my choice would be none of the above, but If I had to pick... given contract statuses, options, and the like, I think I would go with Garcia, but with Thompson on the major league roster as my #4 OF. For me, I choose Thompson if it's between him and Avi. Reason being is that Avi would have to hit significantly better than he has in order to overcome his horrible defense. I just don't see that happening if he doesn't scratch his current batting stance/swing and start from the beginning. Trayce provides good defense, and even if he hits in the .230 range, he should hit for enough extra base hits to not kill you on defense. For a team that's supposed to be built on pitching, having a right fielder that can't judge a fly ball is a bad idea.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) Montas looks like he could be a set up guy next year but he really needs to develop a good change if he wants to start. Fastball command is pretty good but his off-speed pitch doesn't look like an out pitch to me. I'm the opposite, as I think his slider gets a lot more bad swings than his fastball.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) The emergence of Montas should allow them to save face on that trade and just dump him too. I feel like they've put so much stock into sticking with him despite his overall suckitude because he was our big return for Jake Peavy. Totally agree, I still think you can get a talented, yet underperforming player back for Avi.

Cy Young Discussion
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 03:26 AM) I'm not sure, but I'm sure he's a Cub next year. I think the length of the contract will be the point of contention between teams. Has a team ever had both CY winners from the previous year on their roster?
