Some terrible defense by the Mets today has given the Cubs the chance to get a big 4 game sweep for them.
-
I hope they can find a 4th outfielder that can hit against LHP, especially if Melky's struggles continue.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) I can see this move for defensive purposes but unless Sanchez has made huge strides since last year it will be a drop in batting average, OBP, baserunning, etc. This move to me makes absolutely no sense especially since this morning the Sox said they were gonna remain patient with Micah since he is the future for the sox Johnson's negative defense was far outweighing any of the positives his offense might have been giving the team. Unless you're talking about Jeff Kent in his prime, it's hard to keep putting a #9 hitting 2nd baseman in the lineup every day if he's on pace for the worst defensive season ever by a 2b.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) I can't say enough how pissed off I'll be if Sanchez isn't the starting 2B He likely will be, but why would it upset you so much if Beckham gets more playing time there? He's earned it so far this year, and it looks like Hahn and company are showing urgency now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:38 PM) Ok to call this a complete failure of the white sox policy of aggressively pushing prospects up to the big leagues as fast as possible and an admission of that failure/attempt to correct it? I give them credit for pulling the plug early on their decision to push Johnson so aggressively. Last year it seems was an incomplete season for Johnson due to the injuries he had. Hopefully he comes back a better player when he returns...or Sanchez makes him a valuable trade chip by proving he belongs.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Your first sentence seems to completely disagree with the 2nd and 3rd sentences. How so? They sent him down because of his defense, I'm sure we would all agree on. His hitting was ok, nothing special. Good approach, mediocre results. If his defense was above average, I'm sure they could live with his offense so far.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) I think this is more about him working on footwork, making advances on the defensive end. Him working on his bat is nice, but if his defense wasn't historically bad (by advanced metrics), we wouldn't be making this move. No doubt this is 100% about his defense. A week or so ago, Hawk/Stoney were talking though about how the coaches wanted Johnson to improve his timing at the plate, as they thought that was what was making it hard for him to hit fastballs. Hopefully he takes this opportunity to find his stroke again at the plate.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 14, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Wow, quite surprised by this move. His defense definitely isn't great, but he's had a great approach at the plate so far this season. Much better than a lot of teammates. If management is valuing defense more now, we better see less Abreu at first and Conor at third as well. His approach has been good, but the results haven't been good enough to overcome how poor his defense has been. I think it's a great move, as Johnson will hopefully go down to AAA and get his timing at the plate ironed out.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 14, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) So Gordon's platooning at 3B and getting starts at 2B when Sanchez doesn't play? Bonifacio at 2B
-
Smart decision, Johnson needs a lot more seasoning in AAA. Last night's game illustrated how important strong defense is.

Whew!

Easy out

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 14, 2015 -> 04:13 AM) David's command has been off a bit lately Trouble locating his fastball tonight. Not sure why they keep calling for it.

Where's the hook?

Gomez is awesome. If Brewers trade him, please keep him out of the AL Central.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 14, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) THe value of Boni is obscure I know: but he can play 5 or 6 positions within a -20% margin of league average. RF is one of those positions. You signed him to be a super sub so that you could carry a de facto defensive replacement for one Micah Johnson. So, do it. Kudos to Ventura for getting Bonifacio the start tonight. His strategy to get more defense on the infield played a huge part in the first 8 innings of this game.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2015 -> 03:50 AM) Walk-off walk! Terry Collins is getting destroyed on twitter after that game. He made some bad decisions, but that Mets lineup might be the worst in baseball right now. It's legitimately 4 starters and then 4 minor league-caliber players.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 14, 2015 -> 02:51 AM) Nice pick by Adam!! Come on Emilio, throw the damn ball Alexei messed up the timing on that
-
Nice scoop by LaRoche!
-
Still not quite sure why this organization thinks Petricka is good. One pitch pitcher that's not overpowering. If anything, put him in the long relief role because they think he has a rubber arm.
-
And of course, the GREAT Carlos Torres blows Matt Harvey's great start.
-
Everyone in the lineup contributed tonight, great to see.
-
LaRoche has a gigantic glove

Two items from the radio today: - bernstein implied there are some in the front office that are pissed McDermott wasn't given more pt this year - Wilbon said that NBA players have told them the Bulls offense is the easiest to scout in the league, and that they know the plays almost all the time
