QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) The only reason I said that about Peavy is because any thought of him coming back would be wiped out if we skipped over him for Greinke. Jake still thinks he's the Cy Young pitcher, not the current (very good) version of Jake Peavy. And in no way do I think paying Jake Peavy anything above $15 million makes any sense. And he's going to get better offers than $11 million and one year...figuring in the buyout cost. I hope Sox let Peavy walk after this year, especially given the insane workload he's taking on this season. With Hamels signing the big extension, it increases Peavy's value this offseason even more.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Based on a whole 2 games? 3 games, 16 innings-19 earned runs Not what you'd expect from a guy who was one of the best pitchers on the planet during that time period. Almost idential numbers in the postseason to that of Javy Vazquez.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) He also seems to be the best available starter that no one is talking about. Where's our Liriano?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) But you're going to use Sale in that wildcard game, arguably. It wouldn't be Greinke. And good luck telling Peavy he's not starting after being on the team for 3+ years if for some reason Sale isn't still pitching at that point in the season. Well, we all know how awesome Peavy is in postseason/tiebreak games. It's unlikely that the Sox would be in a position to shuffle their rotation around to line up the starter they want for that one game anyways.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) I wonder if the Sox would be willing to trade Ramirez. Milwaukee wants a SS, and eventually move Beckham to SS. I've been thinking that a team would trade for Beckham this offseason and try to move him to SS (or possibly 3b if they have a hole there). I wouldn't be shocked if the Cubs were interested in him, as both the Padres and Red Sox were rumored to have interest in him in the past.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) The Brewers are definitely not rebuilding. They are making changes that help them win now, Melvin said it. The NL central is horrible, and they know if they win they pack the stadium. And winning isn't exactly difficult in the Central. Sorry, should have clarified...when I said youth movement, I didn't mean single A prospects with a chance to help in 2015. More like young, cost-controlled players that can help out starting next year or 2014. That team has no pitching at all outside of Gallardo and Fiers and one of the worst bullpens in a long time. They would be fools to spend their money on Hamilton when they need to make upgrades to their pitching. As for the NL Central, the Reds should be pretty damn good the next few years.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) The Brewers are not in a youth movement if they are going after Hamilton in the offseason a trade for Floyd fills a need young pitching is not guaranteed to do. Floyd is exactly what the Brewers need. Brewers are absolutely in a youth movement if they're trying to trade Greinke, Aramis and Hart, as well as losing Marcum in the offseason. Who do they have left after Braun, Weeks (ugh) and Gallardo? The last two years was their window, and they just couldn't didn't have enough to beat the Cards last year and could never get on track this year.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) I feel so bad that they expect him to close games. Such a weird expectation for him Oh I completely agree that Bell has no business still being their closer. However, the "amazing conversation" him and Ozzie had from the first episode didn't seem to help their relationship much.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:49 PM) Well they are interested in something KW is throwing at them. With all reports out there saying we are heavily involved. If we had nothing they wanted the continued pursuit would have stopped and We would have moved on. Well yeah if KW is massively overpaying with major league talent when most of the other teams have more resources in the minors to use.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) I'm not advocating trading him, but De Aza will probably only be a bargain for two more years. Which is pretty damn good and important when you consider the big contracts the Sox have on the books the next two years.
-
KW's goal should really be to find a solid starter that can fit the #5 spot, as even when Danks returns, there's no guarantee he'll be effective or that Sale won't be shut down. In finding this #5, it should be for someone they can get without trading anyone of importance from the MLB roster (Jones is only person expendable off the roster, IMO).

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) Who would you rather include in a package I guess along with Floyd? Beckham or DeAza? Maybe we Nijer Morgan or another Kenny favorite Carlos Gomez along with Grienke?? Brewers probably want nothing to do with Floyd. They'd be more interested in possible prosects the Sox could get for Floyd, and even then, I don't think Floyd gets you top 75 prospects. If you look at some of the names the Brewers are asking for (Manny Machado, Teherean, etc.), a lot of these trade packages suggested for Greinke on this site make no sense.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) I wouldn't mind trading De Aza. I'm still not sold on him, and I don't think JorDanks has looked that bad at all in his 4 at-bats a week. The downgrade from ADA to JorDanks is much greater than replacing someone like Floyd with Greinke.

If you watched the episode last night, Heath Bell doesn't exactly care for the way management has handled him this year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) I don't think it's been quiet at all...I think he's been the MVP of the offense...he's been hitting like a machine for about 3 months now. Notice how much power he's hit for ever since he took my advice to pull the ball more? -
My biggest concern with trading Q for Greinke is that there's a solid chance Q performs just as good as Greinke does the rest of the way. Q has already dominating some of the best lineups in baseball.

My DVR cut off before the last few minutes, but I was expecting a lot worse after reading this thread. It was nothing terrible that the Guillen's said. If anything, it was annoying that 80% of the show focused on Ozzie and his family instead of focusing on the players (which is always the best part of these shows).

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) This potential deal scares me, I don't want to lose any long term major league pieces for 2 mths of Grienke, and I definitely don't want to sign him to a >$20mm/yr deal. Completely agree, I hope the Braves trade for him. I don't want to see the Sox give up Reed and someone like Quintana or Viciedo for 10 games of Greinke.

The offense really looked great this series. Time for some trade rumors with no game tomorrow. Get well soon AJ and Youk

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) This is f***ing puzzling. Take the f***ing opportunity to save a highly-worked pitcher an inning and a bunch of pitches when you're up 6... 120 pitches and counting. He'll get an extra days rest next start at least.

Tomorrow's day off is coming at a great time

Way to keep the momentum going!!
-
Peavy has to limit the damage here. Viciedo's defense looming large this inning.
-
Reed Johnson for the bench

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) What about Cliff Lee? Some rumblings the Rangers are in on him. Big game pitcher and with other contracts coming off the books, Sox could probably make Lee's deal work (albeit it would spell the end of Peavy). Wouldn't shock me at all if KW inquired about Doc or Lee. I'd pass on both given their contract and diminishing performance. As for Peavy, I think the Hamels extension makes it even more likely he's gone after this year. I'll be stunned if Dodgers don't go after him.
