  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 01:11 AM) how in the f*** did this guy throw the best pitched game ive ever seen Mariners offense
  2. He's got nothing at all out there. You can't let this game get out of hand.
  3. Pathetic outing for Humber. Get someone up in the pen!!
  4. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) Choo comes through with a 2 out RBI & ties it. 3-1 Tigers...this is one of those weekends where I'd be thrilled if we're 2.5 game up after Sunday.
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) You mean the guy who hit the ball? Hawk wouldn't be able to contain his excitement if Gabe Kapler was on the Sox.
  6. Indians look really bad. No one on their team hitting over .300 since the ASB.
  7. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) I have a bad feeling it is Detroit. Despite rumors that they are looking for another bat, this is what they need and what would make them very frightening. If it is them, I just hope Phillie pulls him back. On the other hand, if it's us, let us have him. Hell, it's not my money (directly at least). I hope it is Detroit and they have to deal with the rest of that contract.
  8. I like it, as it's someone that can actually run the bases well off the bench. Also, I doubt Ventura will lead him off in games
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 04:40 AM) I think Matthew Grimes will be "the one that got away". We drafted him in 2010 or 2011, but he went to GT instead. Injuries ruined his soph season at GT
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) "Little Big League" was fiction, ya know. Blasphemy...if by fiction you mean an amazing movie, then I guess you're right. However, he really should have been booed out of the Twinkie Dome for letting Griffey Jr. beat him in such an important game.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:08 AM) And does he have a contract where we wouldn't just claim him if he got to us? I doubt it would prevent Sox from claiming him
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 02:04 AM) Does he have to pass through waivers? yes
  13. Fontenot seems like a pretty damn good fit for our bench
  14. Bobby Valentine's just a terrible manager.
  15. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) I think he will sign a 4 yr/70M extension that would be awful
  16. Sanchez and Saladino absolutely don't project as a 3b yet. Sanchez should be the 2b of the future.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) AJ and Youk are more important to keep than Peavy at that salary level. Not because YOUK has been great recently, but just because of his veteran presence, working counts....there's just no way we can go back to Morel again. As for Jake, he's just had such a heavy workload this season, you worry how long he can stay healthy....of course, we have no actual idea, but every game out, he's throwing 105-120+ pitches. Someone will give him $13-16 million per season, multi-year deal, maybe even 3 years. All things considered, would also rather keep Gavin and Liriano as a duo than Peavy at the same price. Let's wait to see if Youk can stay strong/healthy the rest of the way. Also, with how much his option is, it could be in the Sox best interest to look for another alternative if they can find one for cheaper. Still far too early to make a decision on Youk.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Yes he may be, but that doesn't mean he will take it. It will be interesting if he wants to stay with the Sox or try to get that one last big multi-year contract.
  19. I just feel like he'll get something like 2/30 from a team like the Dodgers. Also, given his extreme workload this year, I wouldn't be upset if the Sox let him go elsewhere. With that said, it's great to see him have a great year and erase so many of the bad memories from his first few years here.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) And Rivera throws almost all fastballs too, doesn't make him a thrower. A thrower is a guy that has no idea where anything is going to go and no general understanding of pitching. Nothing about Reed screams out like that. I think part of this is more the fact that he's young and they are still working with him on his secondary stuff and AJ just doesn't call the other stuff as much. To be frank, I think AJ needs to do a better job calling for better pitch/location differentiation (as I wouldn't expect a rookie to be calling off the veteran catcher very often). It looks as if Flwoers called for quite a few offspeed pitches from Reed in the 9th. Reed's two biggest weaknesses on the mound right now are his unability to effective throw to the different quadrants, as almost everything is at the belt unless it's a change-up. As for his slider, he's not getting a lot of outs with it as he's starting it over the plate and hitters are letting it slide right out of the zone for a ball. I'd like to see him tweak his slider to try and get more downward movement/tilt.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) This 100%. It should be an automatic response to anyone who just looks at the box score. With Reed struggling a little bit of late giving up runs, it was great to see him hold on to a 1 run lead.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) A double and a walk and two stolen bases and put the tying and winning runs in scoring position. But, getting 4 outs in an inning is good. Sorry I miss your point The double was a bloop that should have been a single at worst, and the ump squeezed him with Valencia. He pitched well today, end of story IMO.
  23. Nice job by the bottom of the order getting the run home. Congrats to Flowers on a non-homer RBI
  24. I'd take Fontenot as a bench player.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) The Sox get stuck playing 16 of 19 on the road, get swept in Detroit, and if you go down the roster, except for Rios, just about everyone has struggled mightily at some point recently, yet they still are in first place. It's truly amazing. Yep, that's why yesterday was so big, as it guaranteed Sox would be returning home in first place on Friday night.
