GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
fathom replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 01:50 AM) Sox coulda used an early all star break after that long win streak. Team looks dead and Jake has nothing tonight. His stuff has definitely flattened out for a while now. Going to a 6 man rotation, if the rumors are true, would help him out more than anyone. If anything, he was almost too good to start the year, and might have forced Ventura's hand to let him throw more pitches than what he could handle. -

Wow, just wow...no reason to do the glove flip when you're not going to be able to turn two. Sox are a Toronto bomb away from this getting out of hand. -

Peavy's slider is fooling no one. Lots of excuses being made for Hudson, who played that off to the side instead of getting his body in front of it. -

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 12:42 AM) I tell you what...Toronto is constantly 1-2 and 2-2 and our pitchers are having the toughest time putting these guys away. +1...biggest theme of the series so far -
Problem is facing Kershaw and Capuano in LA is an extremely tough match-up. Kinda like how Toronto isn't necessarily the best team in the AL, but I'd rather face the Rangers and face someone like Harrison than Toronto and Morrow.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) So what shall Jordan's lame, cheesy nickname be? JDINAOF

So Jared Mitchell has 9 errors. Is he that bad on defense, or just bad luck on throws getting away from fielders, etc?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 04:02 AM) Morrow with complete game. Tank has cooled off he has the Juan Uribe syndrom. He hit two balls hard tonight. He'll be fine, but Alexei is just having a miserable season. -

Tip your cap, no one came close to squaring up that slider tonight. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 03:55 AM) I did read that bullpen rumor, but I think they need a starting pitcher more than a bullpen guy. Humber hasn't won a game in USCF in almost a year, and his ERA is around 6.00. You hear what Mr. Funny Guy Ryan Dempster said today about being traded to the Sox? When asked by Waddle and Silvy about being traded to a team 10 miles south, he said something along the lines of "I didn't know there was a team there" or "what team". -

So, um, when are Gordon Jr. and Sully coming back? 0-7 since they left after going 6-16, 3 homers and 8 RBI when they were here. -

Guys, the rumors last week were that more than a 3rd baseman, the Sox were probably going to be looking for an experienced bullpen guy to help out. I disagree with this, as I think 3rd base is a much bigger concern for this team. However, if they stay in contention, we'll probably see a few new players added to the roster. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 03:47 AM) In all fairness, the last two games, you could say that about most of the players on our roster. Lillibridge, Fukudome, Ohman, Stewart, Hudson, etc. Viciedo's ice cold, Beckham's fallen off again, no Konerko...we're scuffling, but it's only 2 games. And we're still in first place. And Detroit's in much worse shape than we are. Although the mysterious home woes continue again. People really shouldn't overreact about yesterday and today's game. We faced their two best pitchers (by far) with our #5 and someone who started the year in AA. Sox are without Konerko (Blue Jays are missing their best hitter on the season also though), which really illustrates just how much our bench players have absolutely sucked this season. Having to play Flowers against Morrow was an 0-3 waiting to happen. Tomorrow is a game the Sox should be much more competitive in, so hopefully they win 3 of next 4 before going to face some damn good pitching next week on the road. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 03:45 AM) Hector Santiago f***ing sucks He's only allowed one run all year prior to the 9th inning or later of a game. He can be a decent long reliever for this team right now. His biggest issue is that 1 out of every 10 righties he's faced this year has hit a homer off of him (5-50). -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 03:42 AM) Andddddddddddddd....game. Santiago really has no value whatsoever anymore to this team. He's one of those guys in a few years when Reed and Jones hopefully are studs that we joke about how he was the closer for a month over those guys. That screwball is a mediocre pitch, and to be honest, the Sox should scrap it and work on other secondary pitches. -
Jim Thome facing Kenley Jansen = the most likely strikeout scenario I've seen in a very long time. I feel bad for Thome, he really should have retired this last offseason.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) I think it's time for Lillibridge to find work elsewhere. Total waste of a roster spot. He's fine as a 9th inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. However, he needs to make sure that if he tries to advance a base in these type of situations, there's no doubt he'll be safe. That is the third time, by my count, he's been caught stealing in situations where it was inexcusable. I don't understand the decision making with running for AJ that inning in a 2 run game that inning, especially with the possibility that he could have come up to bat in the 9th in a big spot in case a few more runners reached. -

Absolutely terrible strategy this inning. Also means you can't hit for Flowers if you want to. -
I posted something in the game thread about Rios' power, but both him and Crede have/had 5 opposite field homers in their career. Crede has 17 more career homers than Rios.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 02:15 AM) I thought Rios had tied it up there. He hit that hard. 5 opposite field homers in his entire career (last one to opposite field was 6/7/2007). Morrow made some bad pitches that inning, so the Sox can definitely get to him in the 8th. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 02:08 AM) In an NL park, wouldn't Danks be more valuable. Plays plus defense anywhere in the outfield and can pinch run. Johnson can pretty much play 1st and he isn't a great baserunner. I really don't get it. This is obviously more about the Sox going with a guy that has big league experience. Unless of course they think Danks has finally got it and they want him to continue to get AB's (vs. bringing him up for a bench role). However at this point, odds are he's going to have to come off the bench and earn more ab's (he won't be handed a starting job). You have Lillibridge/Escobar to pr and play outfield, I think it's important to get an another 1b on the roster in case Konerko has a setback. If PK is completely healthy as of tomorrow, then by all means, let it be Danks

Grimes hard big injury issues this year for GT
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 02:50 AM) Why can't Dunn start at 1b? He's not there today because of the flu issues I'd gather, and the body can recover from that fairly quickly. Contingency in case PK tries to go the next few days and can't. Especially given the lack of DH, I can't see Danks getting any starts in the next two weeks.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) How long is Konerko out for? I'd much rather see Danks up. PK supposed to be back tomorrow, but Johnson gives you more versatility when the Sox play at NL parks now that Escobar can also play LF. I don't see the point in promoting Danks for 2 weeks only to send him back down after only a few ABs at most.
