  1. How great would it be to see Favre get injured due to the field conditions?
  2. Who's the Cardinals 5th starter supposed to be? Isn't Lohse their 4th?
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 12:51 AM) Saw someone ranked the Brewers rotation #3 in the NL. Not sure I can do that if Dave Bush is involved. I can guarantee you that the Cubs will find a way to miss Greinke every series next year and will face Bush 6 times. Heck, wouldn't shock me to see Suppan find a way back into the majors just to make sure he faces the Cubs.
  4. The bbq chips from Jimmy Johns are fantastic!
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 07:21 AM) ...Seriously? Who gives a s*** what he was in high school? He's was Big Ten FotY and looks to be the next great player at Illinois. I don't know how much negative recruiting you're going to get done there. I agree Richardson shouldn't be used for negative recruiting, but as a one-dimensional player, I don't think he's going to ever be a great player for Illinois.
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) Gonzaga. They've actually looked pretty good this year. They aren't a perfect team, definitely have some weaknesses, but they could be a top 15 team when you look at the rest of the college basketball landscape. At Gonzaga is more impressive than a home win against UNC.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) This deal makes me smile. The Yankees lose, and the Cubs road gets harder. What's not to like? Agreed, especially with Sox not having to face him anymore. It will be fun getting to watch him hit in the NL.
  8. FWIW, Jenks still hasn't taken his physical yet.
  9. Not only does Kurt Thomas suck, but he's a dirty player. Never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather see Scalabrine get more playing time.
  10. The Bogans experiment has got to end. With the Bulls offense struggling in the 4th quarter, not quite sure why Korver hasn't gotten a chance to catch fire.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) Remember the game Jenks didn't get anyone out in Minnesota and blew a 3 run lead in the 9th? He didn't get a blown save in the game, just a loss. BS is a great abbreviation for blown save in more ways than one. I still contend that Jenks was worse than his numbers last year, and that his inability to stay healthy caused Thornton and Putz to get overused. I wish Jenks the best, and I'm very happy to see the break-up be cordial. A few of us were worried it would get ugly.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 04:16 AM) He was when he was with the Sox. I'm not sure if he is now because I haven't seen him lately.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:17 AM) Oh, then I'd like to trade for Joakim Soria then. What if Kenny didn't like Downs for some reason? What if Kenny preferred a right handed pitcher instead of a left hander? Could all be possible, but there's no question Downs is the better pitcher and would give you a better return. KW loves Downs, as he tried to acquire him last season.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 06:05 AM) They just gave Carlos Pena $10M. And compared to some of these other deals, that's not a bad deal at all. Pena had a bad season last year, but prior to 2010, some predicted he'd be in line for a monster deal this offseason. It's a one year deal that keeps them alive to try and get Prince Fielder next offseason when they're able to get some of their big deals off their books (Fukudome, etc).
  15. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 06:04 AM) For a GM, I think you have to give the benefit of the doubt if he's put together a good team on paper for the simple fact that too many unexpected and unpredictable things that can happen during the season that affect the outcome of the year. This is so wrong, in my opinion. If that was the case, then the big market teams would never fire their GMs. Guys like Omar Minaya put together good teams on paper, but there were obvious chemistry flaws or teams loaded with injury-prone players.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:00 AM) lol what? Under Ricketts, they've been much more responsible with their money.
  17. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:57 AM) Wood/Marshall/Marmol is a decent 7-8-9 staff. If I recall aside from Marmol and Marshall, the Cubs bullpen stunk last year. Say what you want about Wood but this improves their pen. Now I'd like to see us grab one more relief pitcher. I can't see Cubs spending 6 million or so on a 6th or 7th inning reliever.
  18. If this means the Cubs use Wood as an 8th inning reliever instead of Marshall, then this is a dumb signing for the Cubs.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:25 AM) So we sign Jesse Crain and are now going after Kerry Wood? Just who are we trading to free up this money? I truly don't believe we were still going after Wood once Crain agreed to come here.
  20. And now Cowley is saying talks aren't going as well with Wood.
  21. Todd Walker is a bad human being
  22. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:55 AM) Yes, I think there should be plenty of cushion given to the GM that operates the way he does, and in particular this offseason. Because regardless of the outcome, there is only so much over which he has absolute control. The actual performance of Dunn, PK, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Rios, Crain, Thornton, etc. is not really in his control. I couldn't disagree more. Someone like Peavy had huge question marks coming over to the AL and leaving the pitcher's haven that is PetCo. There were also a lot of red flags that existed with Peavy that people in the baseball industry had over his long term productivity. KW took a huge risk by taking on that contract, and if he could get out of that deal, it seems likely he would right now.
  23. 3/13? Pretty high, but not crippling.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:30 AM) Really guys, KW is not trading one of those guys as a salary dump in order to bring in Kerry Wood or Jesse Crain. It's just not happening. Only way those guys get moved is if it's a legit good deal. Agreed, I think KW would be motivated to deal someone like Floyd for a few good prospects. If they do sign Wood to close, then maybe Sale goes into the rotation?
