QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) He signed a major league deal for 10M over 4 years. I'd say 2.5M a season would be very very cheap. So he'd be the highest paid player on the Pirates?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Right now I think we might be best served dangling no one other than Viciedo. The Sox have a few young players that will actually be able to help this team in key areas. Beckham is one, Hudson is another. And than we have guys like Mitchell who hopefully will be 1 to 2 years away and due to the injury won't be getting dangled anywhere. Add in a Sale who has the potential to be an elite reliever or potentially a good starter and I like some of the young top level prospects we have. The reason I'd consider moving Viciedo is because he has a lot of flaws, however, offensively, the guy has the ability to be a complete stud. But again, there is the fact that he doesn't draw walks. That said, he has power to all fields and really a nice natural stroke that gives him the ability to hit for a high average with a lot of power if all goes well. Oh and he'll be cheap for a long time. Is Viciedo really that cheap? Not sure how his contract breaks down, but he was a $10 mil signee

I believe their playoff chance is .35 or so

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) I'm not sure there is much of a decision to be made in the next 10 days for them, the only moveable parts they have and are willing to deal are Lilly and maybe Lee it appears. The Reds and Cardinals are playing good ball too, and the Cubs are still like 10 under. I don't see how anybody can even imagine them coming close to playing 11 games better than the Cardinals and Reds in their last 68 games or whatever it is. I know you could bring up our run, but they don't have the bullpen, defense, or favorable schedule that we did/do. I'm assuming BP would have their playoff chances at less than half of 1 percent, and that's probably about right. 101, that's why I bring up this weekend. If they go out and sweep Cards and make up 3 games on them, they could then point to our run and decide to go for it.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) And fathom, serious question, not me being sarcastic or poking fun at all: do you still think the Cubs can rally and get legitimately back into the race? It would be difficult based on their remaining schedule, and the Reds/Cardinals having a much easier schedule. The Cubs offense is pretty dynamic now with Ramirez slugging, Soto/Castro/Colvin being underrated, and Soriano/Byrd being productive. Problem for Cubs is they have 10 days to determine if they have to unload their players. Hopefully Cards can avoid getting swept by them this weekend, and that will then result in trading Lilly, etc. The Cardinals desperately need to add some pitching. Unfortunately, the Cubs will face Suppan and Hawkesworth in Fri/Sat games.

I'll be honest, I still didn't like what I saw from Jenks yesterday. Had plenty of chances to throw his curve, and didn't. He threw one awful slider, and the rest were fastballs. His one true plus pitch is his curve, and hopefully he rediscovers it soon.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) The question I inevitably ask every time this topic comes up is will there be a difference in Q's offensive performance based on whether he plays the field or not? We all know he is a horrendous OF. The question is not whether he should be playing the field, but rather, would there be an affect on his offense if he was not playing the field, and if so, what kind? Doesn't it seem though that if anything is having an impact on his offense, it's the constant bumps and bruises he's suffering from playing in the outfield? It's a small sample size, but he was great as the DH against KC.

Please tell me someone else was watching top of 9th in Dodgers/Giants game. I can honestly say I've never seen that before. Mattingly went to mound to talk to Broxton, took a step off the mound, and then took two steps back to say one more thing to him. Giants manager saw this, and told the umpires that should count as two visits. Broxton was forced to leave, and Dodgers had no one warming up.

Does Kenny dare to consider making this trade?

Aramis Ramirez to the Tigers is a scary thought -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:10 AM) There were the days when jphat was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH happier. I was going through old PMs today, and there were a handful of messages sent to me asking about jphat and why was he such a homer?

Astros manager trying way too hard to get his starting pitcher the win, and it results in the game going from 7-1 Astros to 7-6 Astros. Wright has thrown 30 more pitches already than he's ever thrown in a Major League game.

Luke Scott would be a great fit and hopefully wouldn't cost too much.

In my opinion, I'd tell your fiance to just deactivate the account for a while. The last thing you need is someone to hack into his FB and start posting ridiculous statements that will get him recognition on deadspin, etc. Hacked or not, that's not the notoriety he needs.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 05:17 AM) Looks like the Bulls still have about 4.4 million remaining under the cap. What centers are left they could be looking at?

After reading that Cowley article, I'm now scared to log on to Soxtalk every day. Please don't let this be the actual offer. You could have a chance of getting Fielder if you offered something like that.

A mega-deal of Aramis Ramirez and Lilly makes a ton of sense for the Tigers.
-
Not sure what Watson's stats were, but whenever I watched Golden St., he was quite the ball hog. Of course with that playing style, no one really passes.

Chris Davis doing his best to win this game for the Tigers.

Cubs offense is really clicking, as they've cut the 8-0 lead to 8-5.

I actually attended Mariano's start in his rookie year against the Sox. His ERA was bad going into the game, and I remember being frustrated that we just couldn't hit this guy. As for Hoffman, he was a converted SS.

Heads, it was more just Peavy's attitude and that out of all the pitchers, he seemed to be the most vocal ones.
-
Rock, that part with Peavy and the lefty starters was great. After watching this show, I think we'll miss a lot of the leadership that Peavy provided.
-
Ozzie, you've never heard of Dennis Tankersley? Great reliever for the A's? He was on the teams with the bash brothers, Mark Miller and Jose Cantu.
-
Can't but help think how perfect that episode would have been if Santos could have performed a miracle and won us that game 6-5. My wife knows very little about the front office shenanigans, but she did say after it was over "Ozzie is really full of himself".
