QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) First of all, can you name a "Sure thing" left on the market? Secondly, with a team like the Heat out there, the only way you've got a chance is to take and win some major gambles. Third, if you gamble on signing one of them and they play 30 games and Deng and Rose both get hurt, what have you lost? If Deng and Rose get hurt, the Bulls will miss the playoffs anyway. Give me Howard over McGrady then, as McGrady's back is just shot. And yes, there's no sure things left unfortunately besides Luke Schenscher for back-up center.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) Off the bench though, that's a reasonable gamble. The question I'd have is...if that's all they give you, are they effective in those minutes or not? It's a huge gamble though, especially with Deng being so fragile and Rose always an injury risk due to the way he plays.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) If I were them, I'd hesitate to deal him for Hudson + Flowers, for example. I know they're shooting beyond that (beckham) but there's zero reason to give him up for less than that. You must have a lot of confidence in their scouting department if you think they'll draft two players better than Hudson and Flowers.

I just can't see McGrady or Howard staying healthy long enough to give you more than 35-40 games. Butler is a very good outside shooter though.

Tigers roughing up Carmona in the first. Come on Indians, don't get swept today!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) A late first and a sandwich pick, for a team looking down the road, is really valuable. So would getting a very good package for Dunn instead of a world-changing package like they want. The Nats would probably go cheap on the supplemental picks anyways.

I would love it if the Bulls found a way to get Will Bynum. Watching his highlights on youtube made me forget how much I miss the little guy!!

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) I don't want to overpay for Haren right now either, and I fear Laroche is just a Kotsay who's had more playing time. Give me big Adam. For some reason, Nationals are treating Dunn like he's Jason Heyward. The asking price is insane, and with there being very little change that Dunn would re-sign with an AL team, KW would be better off using our resources elsewhere.

good stuff Balta. On the Padres telecast last night, they kept mentioning his fastball issues.
-
Sounds like Bulls might be making a run at Matt Barnes
-
Danny Haren is having a disasterous season, so unless Arizona is willing to lower their asking price, no team should be going after Haren like he's the Cy Young candidate he has been. His velocity decrease is very concerning.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) Don't count on it. Quentin will not be back. Says?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Except for last night, where he kept coming up with people on. Anyway, right now I'm worrying more about the 3 slot in our lineup than the 2 slot. He came up with someone on after AJP and Viciedo faced a righty though. Hopefully Rios starts making more contact, as he's striking out a lot lately compared to the first few months.
-
Jones is 2-20 in his career against Pavano, so hopefully Quentin is back or Kotsay is in RF.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Good ol Gio is 8-6 with a 3.63 ERA. 1.37 WHIP isn't great, but those aren't bad numbers. And Nick Swisher continues to have a fantastic season for the Yankees.
-
I don't like Beckham batting after AJP and Viciedo when facing a LHP, as that's a good recipe for having Beckham bat with no one on.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I really wanted to see the hit and run in the 8th with Pierre on 1st. Of course that is when Alexei grounded into the double play. I don't know why they didn't either run, or hit and run there. Ramirez has been hitting everything in sight. You know I'm Mr. Hit-and-Run, but I think Liriano's move kept our hitters close to first all night. Also, don't forget Liriano had been wild to start the 8th, so that would have been a risky move.
-
Konerko didn't seem comfortable all night. He was not swinging with a lot of confidence. He did a good job of just serving the double into right field, but every other pitch, it seemed like he wasn't picking the ball up.

anyone ever have trouble quoting/replying to a post because computer won't let you click below the words you want to respond to?

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:24 AM) No biggie though. Liriano pitched well. I'm really really glad we won last night. Yep, encouraged by the comeback. As you said, we need to get Rios/Konerko going again and hope Quentin returns soon.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:20 AM) it looked like he was just swinging at air. not watching the ball, not concerned about location, not putting anything on the swing... very, very weird. He does that far too often on the road. You'd think he'd have more composure.
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:20 AM) Rios and Paul have had a chance to do a ton of dmg so far in this series and they aren't doin it. Be nice if Rios remembered there's an opposite field.
-
What the f*** was that Konerko? Terrible effort by him all night.
-
PK just doesn't seem focused at all.
-
Rios continues to just pull off a little too much, and he's not squaring up nearly as many pitches as he had been.
