White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) JeffPassan Royals listen on everyone because it would be silly not to. How blown away would they need to be to trade Greinke? "Atomic," source said. 5 minutes ago via web I always felt like Greinke would end up on the Braves.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
If we lose the division by less than 5 games, and we don't acquire anyone at the deadline, I will blame this season on the front office's horrible decision about the DH position.

7/23 GT: Sox @ A's 9:05pm CDT - WGN
Quentin should be back tonight.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
KC is willing to listen to offers for Greinke. He would be absolutely dominant in the NL.

RF Defense - Quentin or Dye?
Give me Dye, as at least other teams respected his arm.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Suppan is bad, but his defense is awful today. Hard to defend 3 home runs though. Cardinals bats have really struggled the last two games. As long as they can just win one game this weekend, that's all I'm asking for!

Baseball Prospectus White Sox Trade
Extremely unrealistic trade...the other trades mentioned are pretty idiotic as well.

Why can't the White Sox ever get to face Jeff Suppan? This Cardinals team better trade for another starting pitcher.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Berkman was picking up steam not too long ago. to the Sox, you mean? Rock, you know I respect you as an insider more than anyone. Any projected deals?

White Sox Trade Catch-All
That BP article might be the one thing ever written. Really, Venable and Adam Russell for Dunn? That Sox trade is crazy as well, as I don't think Orioles would deal Scott straight up for those three prospects.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
Pavano is on a great run right now. Pavano/Liriano vs Floyd/Danks is a great match-up right now.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
Berkman's not really a switch hitter, as his injuries are making it difficult for him to bat righty. He's still owed almost 6 million for this season. No thanks!

2010 Cubs Thread
Just need the Cards to win one this weekend to put the Cubs into fire sale mode. Suppan won't be a pretty game tomorrow though, especially if it's as windy as it was today.

Putz for Closer
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) Meh, its not like he made terrible pitches last night. Figgins somehow got inside of a up and in fastball and the walk off hit was off the end of the bat. I dont think his stuff is bad, but his pitch selection has been. That final pitch was a massive hanger. He also got away with a bad fastball that Gutierrez fouled straight back. As Ozzie said, the Mariners hit the ball good against him the night before also.

I'd take Crawford over Rios...I feel like we saw the best of Rios the first few months, but Crawford might have a higher ceiling. I've seen Crawford hit some mammoth homers this year, and wouldn't be shocked if he's hitting 30 homers a year in a few seasons.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Not arguing this year, but in his career? I think the Pirates will also be right up here in about four-five years when their guys develop. No, the next 3-4 years. By then, Alvarez will get traded to the Cubs or Yankees and rake even more. I'm intrigued by a possible 1-2-3-4 of the order in Tabata, Walker, McCutcheon, and Alvarez.

Putz for Closer
QUOTE (noodle_53 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) Man, I wish as a Royals fan that a closer was our only problem ... Looking at his numbers, I'm surprised a bit by the animosity towards Jenks. The guy is striking out 11.0 guys per nine innings (his best mark since 2005). From being on this board during Royals series, I think most folks here know about FIP and xFIP. If you look, his FIP is 2.78 and his xFIP is 2.82 (Both numbers are better than Joakim Soria's). That means, even though Jenks' ERA is above 5, he's gotten really unlucky (his BABIP is .402, which is ridiculously high). I know he's blown two saves and the tendency is to overreact, but I definitely wouldn't write off a guy that is striking out 11 guys per nine innings. noodle, it's all about his stuff. It's obvious to anyone watching that he just isn't the same pitcher anymore. Even Ozzie called him out after the game last night. When you combine that with rumblings within the organization about Jenks' stubborness to throw more curves, you get a situation where there is a lot of doubt.

When your closer blows a 3 run lead in the 9th, that loss is directly on him, and no one else. That's about the only time you can single-handedly blame a particular player on a team for a loss, besides for a crucial error that costs the team a game (ie: Soto dropping the game-ending throw at home on Saturday).

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) I would be shocked actually. (even in that park where Jason will probably have a s***load of XBH) Already got a leg up in age and potentially more raw power... idk fathom. We've never seen a true lefty power hitter play 81 games though at PNC Park. You also have to wonder if he'll get better pitches to hit due to the Pirates being out of more games, as opposed to the Braves being a lot more competitive.

Stark is a Phillies fan, so he might have a hatred towards Pirates players. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Alvarez hit for more power in his career than Stanton or Hayward.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) They should just release him, get rid of the bum. Then if Putz blows a couple save opportunities, find a way to blame Jenks as well. I had to laugh at this line: "When he blows a save, he's a fat ass with bad facial hair." I love the anonymity of the internet. Tell that to his face. He'd kick your ass. Please stop greg, you're making actual conversations about actual issues with the Sox very difficult to talk about.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) For the love of God why don't they just DH Viceido? EDIT: And Carlos I honestly have no idea...the DH by committee decision seems to get worse and worse each day.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) And Ozzie's insistence to bat Kotsay 5th is mind numbingly idiotic. The guy has been absolutely brutal this year and can't knock in any runs but continues to bat there for some inexplicable reason. Batting him behind Konerko is just so idiotic as well, as you're basically begging for Kotsay to hit into a double play. Kotsay needs to be out of baseball, as he can't pull the ball without rolling over on it and when he hits it the other way, he doesn't have the power/ability to hit it into the gap, off the fence, etc.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) Can we end this DH by committee debacle soon? I've never been more annoyed by a Sox decision than this one. Maybe keeping Randy 'Gas Can' Williams on the roster is close but at least they finally addressed that. Yep, the Jenks debacle completely overshadowed a pretty pathetic offensive game. The 5-6-7 of Kotsay, Jones, and AJP is embarrassing. Changes have got to be made to this lineup, as you shouldn't have your two hottest hitters batting 8th and 9th and have them followed up by two of the slappiest, crappiest hitters in baseball.
