QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Ok, so you two are advocating we don't bring anyone up and just play out the second half of a terrible season with the same guys that are failing now. What the hell does that accomplish? I've been on record saying I want Flowers to get called up to see if he has any prayer of hitting at this level. Also, if the Sox do trade Konerko, they'll promote Viciedo to play 1B. I want to see Hudson in the rotation ASAP, as that would mean we were able to unload Garcia or Buehrle.
-
Changed his name to Jordan Davis, and no one would want Danks 2 to be called up. He's closer to fizzling out than he is making the majors.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I tend to agree with you except for the fact that we've got to give up something of value in order to "get some legit players," as you say. We aren't going to be able to go out and sign many premier free agents, and so you're going to have to acquire some solid young talent somehow. The only way you can do that is by maximizing the value of some of your better-performing veterans by trading them this July. If I were Kenny I would try and find a match with a team that needs Thornton and also has a bit of a logjam at a position of need for us. The Rays, Reds, Jays, Phillies, Dodgers come to mind as possible matches... The Reds have the best reliever in baseball so far this season in Arthur Rhodes, who is also a lefty. If anything, Jenks or Putz is a better fit for them.

Great first 3 innings, as he was pitching to all 4 quadrants. Then, it seemed like he threw every pitch down the plate for the next 3 innings. The Indians players were swinging from their heels against him. His slider was better than against Tampa, but still nowhere near what it used to be. His fastball was better early on, but it seemed like he ran out of gas after 30 pitches.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:06 AM) This would only be for the back half of this season, not the start of 2011.. I imagine it will be a lot more interesting to suck with young guys, then old guys. (See, the Diamond-Backs method) Also, you can't tell me that the notion of being bad enough for Rendon, while getting Flowers and Dayan some play, doesn't make you drool. Not going to get Rendon with the Orioles being in the AL East. Also, the problem with going with just the worst lineup possible is that walk-up sales will be even worse, which would then hurt our payroll in the years to come. The person on my list who really should be on the market is Mark Buehrle. If a team is willing to take his contract on and give up some players for him, then you jump at that.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:56 AM) No, no, no, no, no! I am pulling for the Sox to take O'Conner! Cubs are going to take him if the Mets don't. After listening to Hawk and Stone today, we'll never take a high school pitcher in the first round, and any high school player seems questionable in the first round.
-
According to Pillere, Mets are leaning towards taking O'Connor over Choice. I guess McGuire's stock is back up after a dominant performance tonight.
-
At least with Brentz, there's a chance he could be an impact hitter. It's really hard projecting Workman/Wimmers/Wojo/Loux as anything more than a #4 or 5 starting pitcher.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:29 AM) f***ing tell me about it. Think about all the "Ozzie should be fired" rants simply from starting Wise in CF. Now we've got one of the best all-around CFs in the game and it's time to trade him? Makes awesome sense. The thing is, KW hasn't exactly proven that he can trade veterans for a good package of prospects. If anything, that's been one of his major weaknesses as a GM.
-
Sounds like Mets want to take O'Connor. There's going to be a very talented offensive player available, such as Brentz, Cox or Choice for the Sox if they want.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:13 AM) That Torres guy (or Hudson) would have looked good for us early on.. but I don't blame sox management at all for knowing Pena would have to be pitching that many mop-up innings, cause of how brutal our rotation has been. The frustrating thing is that they're letting it continue. Just DFA Williams, and call up Torres to be the long man.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:11 AM) I knew it. But that's only because of fantasy baseball. The Braves are getting premium production from a bevy of guys who you didn't expect it from (Prado, Hinske, Glaus). And it's not like Chipper has been his usual great self this year. I'm not really sure how they're winning, but Billy Wagner has to be one of the biggest freaks to ever play baseball. I mean that in the talented way, and not the scary way.
-
Why do people think that Thornton could be had? It's pretty obvious Jenks and Putz are on their way out, and Thornton will take over the closer role.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:03 AM) Well a lineup like that we could be shooting for number 1 draft pick in 2011. Rotation of Peavy, Danks, Garcia, Floyd, Hudson ? Why would you keep Garcia around. Trade him to the Giants for John Bowker.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:03 AM) Well a lineup like that we could be shooting for number 1 draft pick in 2011. Rotation of Peavy, Danks, Garcia, Floyd, Hudson ? Not with the Orioles lurking.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:00 AM) Assuming we clear a lot of room here, and Flowers and Danks have a nice turn around in production by the All-Star Break (massive assumptions, I'll admit) I really wouldn't mind playing out the year with the following lineup, and usning it as an early audition for the spring. Give a lot of these guys a pressure free, entrance to the big leagues. C-Flowers 1b-Viciedo 2b-Beckham 3b-Teahen SS-Ramirez, RF-Danks CF-Rios, LF-Pierre, DH-TCQ If it wasn't for his last name, no one would be penciling Danks into the lineup for at least another year and a half. He's not even close to being ready. I'm all for seeing young players get time in the Majors, but even I have no interest in seeing that pathetic lineup.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:53 AM) There's nothing that remarkable about the quote. I was just suprised to see him make himself part of the discussion. Not a huge deal. I just thought his quote would be more like, "Yeah, i expect a lot of changes around here." Rather then, "Yeah, i expect a lot of changes around here, i could be one of them, i'd understand it if Kenny wanted to trade me" Yep, that's exactly what surprised me.
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:53 AM) Keep in mind Fathom that if we start dealing pieces it might be a year or two before we are a playoff caliber team again.. is having a dominant Thornton more important on a .500 team than getting a valuable piece for the future? I don't think so. If Kenny decides to pull the plug, I think trading Thornton now would be a very wise decision. No way KW would actually go forward with a complete rebuilding though. I can't FATHOM that happening.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:48 AM) Was that any good? been thinking about watching it, its on Netflix to watch right on TV Not very good...but she's pretty spectacular. Sela Ward had so much work done on her face/botox, it's almost hard to watch her.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:36 AM) Huh? Rios is set to make $12 in 2011 and 2012, and $12.5M in 2013 and 2014...... That's Paul Konerko money. I would have to say that a speedy, defensively gifted CF who has good power is more valuable than a power hitting 1B who has absolutely no speed. Also, so far this season, Rios is already been worth $11.7M (according to FanGraphs) and the season is only 1/3 over. I thought it climbed up to like 15-16 million range. Maybe I got his contract confused with Vernon Wells.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:38 AM) Why would the security worker tell you something that isn't true? Did he make it up to pull your chain? These rumors never cease to amaze me when those in the know are supposedly involved. I'd call your friend on it because he apparently is CLUELESS. People say stuff like this all the time. I was told by the guy who orders merchandise for the Cell that they had acquired Soriano a few years back and jerseys had been ordered. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:33 AM) I didn't actually expect him to approach the question like that. I don't see him getting moved, but he's just opened up an entire can of words for himself. He'd probably wet himself to get traded back to a team full of dirtbags. A team that has a GLARING hole in the starting rotation is the Giants. I'm not saying Peavy, but Buehrle or Garcia would look nice taking over for Wellemeyer there.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:30 AM) I disagree soo much. Look how long it took us to finally get a competent CF out there. Not only does he have power, but he has the speed and defense for CF. I would file Rios under UNTOUCHABLE, along with Beckham. Everyone else is expendable, really. For as well as Rios is playing, his contract starts getting into astronomical territory the next few seasons. With that being said, no way does he get traded.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:30 AM) Okay, Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell. Haha, another bad example. But there's no reason to trade Thornton, as he's more valuable to the Sox as being affordable with his 3 mil deal next year. If anything, make him your closer next season, and if he shows promise, either extend him or trade him when his value is even higher.
