  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) Where is this door and how do we get through it? It holds the mythical big board with Gio and Fields' name, etc.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I would bet you this 'fire Ozzie' stuff is an internet fanatic thing. I can't imagine there's much mojo in the city of Chicago to actually fire Ozzie. Unless he digs his own grave with more comments like he's made in past years I can't imagine the more neutral level headed fans actually calling for Ozzie's head. I mean how many "fans" are really vocal on here? How many post what you would consider a lot? Maybe 20 fans? 25? Chicago is a massive city. I would bet you the fanatic representation on here isn't true representation of the city. My guess is since we suck there's more of a who cares attitude. I can't imagine there's a lot of fire Ozzie sentiment ruling downtown Chicago business world luncheons today. Um, every radio show this week and the Sunday sports shows were talking about Ozzie being on the hot seat this past week.
  3. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Now I am hearing that Know cancelled his visit to Ga. Tech. He had already had one visit there so cancelling a 2nd visit isn't that major. His Uncle has said they are cancelling the planed 2nd visit to Tech and Knox will make his decision in the next 2 weeks, Sounds a bit better with Carolina having the last visit now, but still will be tough to top the lure of Atlanta with his family situation. That's not true now, as Knox was at GT with Iman Shumpert last night.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) Which means they start working for their own stats instead of winning games. That's fine, it's not like this is basketball where someone can be a ball hog. With our lack of fundamentals, just go ahead and let our hitters swing for a 3 run home run instead of trying to advance runners.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) The Sox have the starting rotation to win, but that's about it. Jenks is no longer dependable, and he'll be gone next year. Thornton will most likely leave as a FA in 2012. Putz isn't dependable and will be gone next year as well. Santos is the only long-term arm that I'm excited about. Going into next year, we'll have mediocre offensive talent at every position besides CF, 2B, SS, and RF. Even Pierre's "meh" bat will be gone in 2012. Signing PK to an extension would help at 1B/DH, but the number of holes needed to fill is daunting. And we currently don't have the disposable income or minor league talent to do it quickly. In other words, the days of "retooling on the fly" are coming to an end. Why is Thornton likely to leave? Also, count me out with regards to signing Konerko to an extension. Let him go play on the west coast like he wants to.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) Still waiting for someone to address my question about those other rosters that are winning for such obvious reasons right now... Well, Giants have far superior pitching to that of the Sox. I would also say it's silly to judge our roster in comparison to the NL with the lack of talent in that league. As for a team like the Rangers, they have a much better offense as well as making some good personnel decisions (ie: making Wilson a starter). A lot of the teams you mentioned have good minor league systems that have allowed them to replace struggling/injured players more efficiently than we have.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) Why? It's not like we're not going to land a huge bounty by trading a guy in his walk year struggling to get north of Mendoza territory. Much more likely IMO that he'll play out the remainder of his final contract year in Chicago. It's more about saving almost 4 million dollars and creating ABs for Flowers. If AJP stays on the roster, he won't take too kindly to losing ABs to a young player.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) That's fine. But please, please, please don't tell me the date that AJ's 10/5 rights kick in is the date we decide the fate of this entire roster. That is simply not some point at which we can no longer turn back. Fair enough
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) I've already made up my mind on AJ. He's a catcher that's getting older and producing less. We can do better than that. No need to pay him a s***load of money to stick around. Agreed, he's been an amazing contributor for the Sox, but the time is right to go with new blood behind the plate and hope Flowers makes it so you don't have to sign another catcher this offseason.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 19, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) In regards to that first paragraph, I really can't stand pseudo insults like that. I believe in rebuilding because I don't believe in your opinion stated in the second paragraph. I do not think that this team is a small piece away from being a real contender. Well said, if Quentin doesn't turn his career around and Beckham can't start showing he's at least an average MLB player, this team is going nowhere the next few seasons.
  11. Wait, so the fluff piece in ESPN The Magazine saying how Hanley is such a great teammate (even though I've heard no one can stand him in Florida) wasn't accurate?

    LOST!!!!

It's strange, but I can't but help feel that if there was another season to this show, it would have made this season much more tolerable. Unless these writers are amazingly efficient, it sure seems like they wasted at least 20 minutes every episode on some mediocre flash sideways and then had to rush everything into a 2 1/2 hour finale.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2010 -> 05:44 AM) Ga Tech is fighting to get Thornton eligible, and they're pretty optimistic he will be. He's expected to announce for them on Thursday. Thornton signs with Georgia after finding out the ACC wouldn't clear him to play next season. Knox is visiting GT now, and it's close between GT and UNC.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:58 AM) Can't play the NL card tonight. The Rockies have a pretty good offense. Stunning lack of power from some of their main guys so far.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 19, 2010 -> 04:03 AM) They explained why he took her off the list pretty clearly. Everyone on the list was a loaner struggling with a lot of issues. Kate became a mother, so Jacob took her off the list. That's right, I forgot that. I just remembered the chalk line, and saw other sites ripping on that.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 19, 2010 -> 03:58 AM) And I don't think it really matters why she was or wasn't. She wasn't going to be the one to take over. It just seems like for a show that cared so much about little details, saying "it's just chalk" makes me think there was a change of plans.

    LOST!!!!

I thought it was awful at points tonight. The whole Kate named being crossed off thing was so stupid, especially after Flocke I believe said earlier that she wasn't a candidate. As for Jack becoming the candidate, there should was a lot of build up to have someone just volunteer.
  18. Really, Carlos Silva dominating?
  19. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) He has thrown 7 less innings than Zumaya this year. I think the overuse thing is overrated. He is on pace to throw 80 innings this year. Yes, but he warms up nearly every game. Very rarely does he get a full rest on a game day. At this point, let's just hope it's nothing that requires surgery.
  20. Great game so far, as Santos gets incredible experience and Quentin swinging the bat well.
  21. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 18, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) and then Matt Black Smoke Thorton will come in and kill all the Tigers Is that ThorNton's brother?
  22. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 18, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) Hey with the Lost talk. Some of us are still in season two. Quit now, and save the disappointment!
  23. Pierre!! On his way to leading this team in hitting.
  24. Wow, Alexei's OPS under .600 now, and he doesn't even come to mind when thinking of our awful offensive players.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) No, because you expect him to slow down from that ridiculous early season home run pace, but you don't expect any other GM's around baseball to expect that. You don't think his value is higher now than it would be in mid-June if he hits 4 homers in the next month?
