QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) Has Buehrle thrown a ball yet? Haha, I think one to Overbay. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Yes you can. You'll never convince me you're surprised by that. I was expecting Teahen in the 2nd spot today, as that's what they were talking about on the radio earlier. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:18 AM) Nasty change from Marcum. I got a bad feeling about this game. Seems like one of those games where whatever team hits more solo homers will win. Considering the lack of pop in our lineup, it's going to be hard to win. I can't believe Vizquel continues to bat 2nd. -

This game is going to be about 1 1/2 hours. Also, our first Catfish reference 7 minutes into the game. -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) That was ghey Castromania is upon us. Was his homer far?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) I wouldn't care one bit about that if he was racking up the singles. Was it you or Kalapse that wrote the great blurb in the offseason about the winds at the Cell, and how it makes a slap hitter very ineffective? -
Had the day off from work, so I went to see Iron Man 2 at 2:20 PM. It was a fun popcorn movie, nothing special. The women in the movie wear some intriguing outfits.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) It's like having two pitchers bat in our lineup. Vizquel really does hit at a starting pitcher level now. Kotsay at least can hit the ball over a Little League fence. It's amazing that Juan Pierre would probably have one homer all season if he played with 200 foot fences. -

Awesome, another lineup with Kotsay and Vizquel in it. As Bernstein said, when you have those two in the same Major League lineup, you deserve to lose. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) It's simply remarkable how good his control is right now given how long he's been pitching. He absolutely aced Vernon Wells with an inside breaking ball yesterday, a filthy, unhittable pitch that for whatever reason was not called a strike. There are a ton of veteran relievers that just can not put that pitch in that location. It's not that he's just putting up great numbers, but the opposition looks clueless against him.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 7, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) I kept hearing about Poreda's "plus-plus fastball" and he supposedly threw 99 but I never saw anything close to it. It was more like 91 or 92 mph
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Its all about their pitching. If Carpender goes down again, this could be interesting. Lohse needs to pick it up for them, as he's throwing batting practice on the mound. Duncan is an amazing pitching coach though, as Brad Penny is this year's Pineiro.
-
Santos was my pick...if he can stay healthy, we have our version of Carlos Marmol with better control.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ May 7, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) John Ely made his second start yesterday. Who get an XBH first, him or Pierre? Pierre, Ely looked awful at the plate.
-
John Ely misses out on his first MLB win after Broxton blows the save chance.

Cowley's such an asshole. I heard Ozzie talk about Beckham, and he didn't mean Golden Boy in a bad way. All Ozzie was saying is that Beckham has been the Golden Boy wherever he's played, be it in Little League or high school or at UGa. I was extremely impressed with Ozzie's post game press conference with regards to Beckham.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:14 AM) Oh my goodness. Pods hits a homer once every 90 at bats for his career. That is such a low-rate that it is ridiculous to even consider that as a positive attribute for him. Honestly, is this what it has come to? We're going to complain about the HUGE power gap between Pierre and Podsednik? For his career, Podsednik slugs at a .010 higher rate that Pierre. You really don't think that Pods has improved his hitting ability by altering his swing and approach? You could see it last year, as he was driving the ball much better than he did in 2005.
-
QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:09 AM) Off topic... We lose tonight 2-0...would you rather lose like that, or lose the way the Royals are about to? Down 8-0...come back to lead 11-9, lose lead 11-11, regain lead 12-11, then lose 13-12... 13-12, no doubt about it. At least that way, you have a lot of players that gain confidence during the game.
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:07 AM) I'd probably be the first to get the ban-hammer if that happened. You and I were on the anti-Pods bandwagon back in 2006.
-
It's this simple, of our regular starting hitters and pitchers, the following are severely underachieving: Buehrle, Floyd, Peavy, Beckham, Quentin, AJP, Pierre, Ramirez Hard to win with so many key players struggling. If you have that many people struggle for such an extended period, it's just not your month/year.
-
I'll gladly support a ban on Pods/Pierre talk on this site
-
QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) There, maybe people will have that finally start to sink in if it is just repeated over and over. I agree, I was just arguing that Pierre will be just as productive as Pods.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) Oh give me a break. Dude had 25 RBI in 2005. It's certainly no guarantee that he will keep up a pace anything like this. He also is a much better hitter now. He was great with RISP last season.
