  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) You bench Pierre. And DFA Nix. No big loss either way. When's the last time the Sox benched someone making a significant amount?
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:37 AM) We both agree that they won't continue to suck, Balta. You put good players around struggling young ones, you might get better results then with our current makeup. Andruw Jones has an OPS over 1, Paul Konerko leads the world in homers, and Rios is hitting great. They've had no effect on Beckham or Quentin's performance.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:36 AM) Konerko's money comes off this year. We also aren't too far from the end of Jenks as well. Buehrle comes off of the books in another year. Which is why we're going to need money to get another starting pitcher.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:36 AM) Yes, they did. Everyone knows this. I didn't know Konerko wouldn't be playing.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:35 AM) I just don't see how having one of the best players in all of baseball hurts a team. Especially, when our entire core is young and we're playing in a mediocre division. This would be different if we were the Blue Jays or the Orioles, but we're in a position to compete year in and year out. You get a guy like A-Gone, you pay him, and you get what you pay for. Worst comes to worst you're paying a lot of money for three guys (Peavy, Rios, and A-Gone) and taking gambles on a few other spots on the team. With those three guys, you can afford to take some risks. It's not a mediocre division because it seems likely there will a powerhouse in the division for the next few years with the Twins.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:32 AM) The team is terrible, is starting Kotsay and Vizquel, and doesn't have Adrian Gonzalez. This isn't a good example. But people going to the game tonight didn't know this.
  7. Buehrle really does have no-hit stuff tonight. Might be the best fastball he's thrown in years.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:30 AM) Well, that's a shame. It's perfectly logical to think that you get Adrian Gonzalez in a White Sox uniform that people are going to start showing up to games. Not to Mark Buehrle is pitching on a Friday night. He's one of the most popular players in team history. There's no one at the ballpark.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) You don't think that just getting him would have any impact on the amount of people coming to Sox games? We're a large mark team with an owner with deep pockets. You give Jerry a reason to believe that the team will improve, he'll spend the cash. No, unless we start winning, people won't start going to the games. Gonzalez is a great player, but he's not someone who will just make people go to the park to see him play. That's very rare in baseball...it's not the NBA.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:28 AM) Fathom, you were saying something about Rios's swing? Yes, cause I thought he was trying to do too much with Konerko out.
  11. Well, he popped that one up! It's been so much fun watching him hit.
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) Yes, because i think if we brought him in, it would be under the pretense that we could secure him for a few years. IF that's the case, we'll be competing for the divison for years to come. There's no way they can make that extension right now based on the way attendance is going.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:24 AM) You really think, right now, if we added Gonzalez tomorrow to this lineup and only had to give up minor leaguers, that we'd be in position to compete for the division? Instead of one bat, I'd rather spend money on 3-4 additions in the next few offseasons.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Did you read the post at all? If we're mired in 4th place in the division, you think Lance Berkman is making that big of a difference? I just hate trading for Berkman as he'd be a 4 months rental. However, that's not really KW's style, so I'm not concerned.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:21 AM) So basically we won't trade any of our top six prospects, haha, LOGICALLY. Hudson, Flowers, Danks, Viciedo (KW's ego is on the line too much with that move), Mitchell and Trayce Thompson. So who's #7-10 that we would part with and would get us a Lance Berman? HMMMMM... Balta and I are in agreement that we shouldn't pursue Berkman unless we get within a few games and everyone starts playing better.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:19 AM) Hudson had 1 bad outing this year. I think, especially as the year goes on, his value is just going to keep going up and up. But with the absolute lack of another minor league pitcher that is projecteable as a future Sox starter, Hudson's value is extremely high.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:16 AM) Depends...am I in a position where the big league team has clawed back into it and is 1 player short or not? If I'm not within a couple games...I wouldn't trade any of like my top 8. If I think I can make a run at the division, I hold onto D2, because of D1, and Flowers unless the return is incredible, because I don't think forcing myself to bid on AJ is a smart move. I think Flowers stock isn't high enough right now where you trade him, as he's more valuable to the Sox likely. Same goes for Hudson as well. Danks 2 would be first guy I trade if not for his brother.
  18. Have the Sox still not swung at a 3-0 pitch all year?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:11 AM) But only a .765 OPS. Similar strikeout rate to last year. Question for you, as you usually have a different take on most things than I do: Which prospects on the Sox would you trade, and who would you keep (of the main names)
  20. QUOTE (qwerty @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:10 AM) Vernon wells read that off the bat beautifully!!!! Agreed, just as Pierre didn't. Not saying he would have robbed it, but he could have busted it to the wall better.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:07 AM) HEY! He kept one fair!!!!!1 Now just get a fly ball hit into the air with some authority.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) Yay, great to know we can look forward to three innings a week from a relief pitcher. God willing, we'll be talking about the encouarging steps Flowers, Hudson and Danks2 have taken at the major league level by the end of the year. Which is one of the reasons that if we're going to suck, then suck a lot! Nothing worse than seasons like last year where you're close enough to compete, but not really in the race.
