  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) That 3 run rally in the top of the 9th was uninspiring? Carpenter wasn't very good today and only gave up 3 runs. It will be between them and the Reds all year. Chad Qualls can make anyone look good. The Cardinals seem to sleepwalk through a lot of games. D. Reyes also has a nice stretch going where he's given up 6 runs while retiring 2 hitters.
  2. Chris Young with a walkoff homer against the very uninspired Cardinals.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Cabrera homers off Dotel. Looks familiar. Yep, and I'm pretty sure those are the only 2 hits he's ever had against him.
  4. Wow, very interesting lineup. Surprised to see AJP in there. Seems we'll get this game in?
  5. I doubt AJP is playing tonight with a lefty on the mound.
  6. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Greinke gets his 2nd win of the year. Struck out 12 as the Royals beat the Reds 7-3. He's 2-8 now. With his stuff, he'd win 23 games a year in the NL. Also, the Reds desperately need to trade for some righty relievers.
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) He was off on the 11th. Interesting, do you know how often they bench him the day game following a night game?
  8. Miguel Cabrera continues to be amazing. Best hitter in baseball this year, it seems.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Flowers is not in the lineup today. Good just be one of his regular days off, or maybe Kenny told him to start packing his shiz. Then again, we have an off-day tomorrow anyway, so maybe it's nothing..... Just an off day, I'm sure
  10. Ryan Sweeney recently complained about how the Sox always used to try to make him change his swing.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) AJ is not going to come back here to split duties with Tyler Flowers. He's not the mentoring type. I suspect if we resign AJ, Tyler will be traded. And then we can all cross our fingers that Phegley or Miguel Gonzalez meets the Ozzie stamp of approval. Phegley has basically no shot of ever being a major leaguer
  12. I'd like to see Strasburg pitch with Doug Eddings behind the plate. He might strike out 25 batters.
  13. How many times would Strasburg strike out Branyan if he faced him 10 times? I'm saying 8.
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) But major league pitching might. He did homer off of Stammen yesterday, who's been in the majors all season.
  15. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) I hope all you Flowers boosters are right. I'd love to eat crow on this one and see Flowers excell at Catcher for the Sox for many years to come. But I don't see any sense in getting rid of AJ just to save a few million bucks just because Flowers has been hot for a couple of weeks in Charlotte after struggling for the first couple of months. Gordon Beckham was supposed to be the savior and we've watched him struggle to adjust in the big leagues. And we've seen Brian Anderson, Joe Borchard, Josh Fields, etc., fall flat on their faces in the majors after tearing up the minor leagues. I'm not too anxious on seeing AJ dumped just to go through that again. I'm by no means a Flowers booster. AJP has been absolutely nothing special this season, and you have to worry about him getting older. There's been no one that rips on our development and inability to produce young players more than me, but with the ways things look, if guys like Beckham/Viciedo/Flowers/Hudson all don't pan out, this organization is screwed.
  16. I've never seen a more similar home run to that of Geoff Blum in Game 3 of WS
  17. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) LOL! That reminds me of the time in I think 2006 when Ross Gload was finally recalled after publicly stating his disappointment of being left in AAA even though he was hitting well down there. He comes in as a pinch hitter and on the first pitch hits a ball deep to the opposite field which was caught on the warning track in LF. Hawk announcing the game comments, "Well, I guess that's a home run in Charlotte." Anyway, hitting in a band box in Charlotte against AAA pitching is not quite the same as hitting at the Cell against Major League pitching. I do remember that quote as well. Flowers is also a home run hitter, while Gload is a line drive hitter. I don't think the dimensions will hurt Flowers as much.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Thank you fathom for pointing out the game is on TBS. Has Cleveland got a hit off him yet? Nope, 2 k and a fly out. Fastball has been between 99 and 100 mph.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) 16/0 K/BB ratio to this point. And Carlos Santana is one good lookin' ass player. The Indians have a really nice future ahead of them. Seriously, the ball flies off of Santana's bat. Probably already at least the 2nd best player on the Indians.
  20. Dare I say his stuff looks better today? It's on TBS, FYI.
  21. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) .....In Charlotte. Well, it's too bad the Cell plays big then.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Or pencil him in as the 2011 starting catcher and save a little money because as of right now we're going to have next to nothing to spend in the offseason. agreed! Flowers is hitting for huge power this season...a HR every 14.5 ABs
  23. Two other comments about yesterday's game: - that might have been the best called game by a Sox catcher that I can ever remember. 3-2 offspeed pitches are extremely effective against an offense pressing like the Cubs - it was cool seeing the emotion from Peavy after Santos' strikeout in the 7th.
  24. With Castro likely to start tonight, it will only lead to rumors.
