  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Might be true if he didn't have a body of work that suggests he'll snap back. Plus, when you look at his stuff... pitches, speed, movement... There aren't any screaming red flags. I think the injury last year has thrown his mechanics enough that it's affected his command. And eventually he'll get back on track. His slider is nowhere near the pitch it was in the past. That's the biggest difference. He used to get a ton of swings and misses on that pitch. His fastball is about what it used to be.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Scouts are smarter than someone wanting to write him off after 2 bad months and some mechanical issues. But what if they don't think it's mechanical? Remember the concerns that Ozzie got frustrated about relating to Peavy during ST. I said at the time, and then a few weeks ago, but scouts are extremely concerned about Peavy's health. Not that there's something necessarily wrong, but more that he's just thrown so many sliders and pitched a lot of innings during his Major League career that he's more like a 34-35 year old in pitching years.
  3. Awesome response by Rios...Peavy could learn a lot from him.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Kotsay has 6 HR on the year. Vizquel has markedly positive UZR numbers at 3b and SS, negative numbers at 2b but he's only getting time there because our starting 2b is sucking royally. Kotsay and Vizquel have been adequate at their job. Every time anyone blames this season on Kotsay or Vizquel, God Kills a Kitten. Omar Vizquel would be fine if he was a defensive replacement, but he's getting way too many ABs. As for Kotsay, he has 6 homers, and a whole bunch of nothing else.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) all KW, and all have performed successfully at some point for the Sox. Oz: Juan Pierre rotating DH=no power bat that can only hit Those alone are fireable. Mark Kotsay Omar Vizquel
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Its not, and if you read the article in the Trib today about this, and read Ozzie's quotes, you'll see that Ozzie handled it quite well. He wasn't angry, he wasn't upset with the Sox, etc. T-Bolt brought this up in the FS forum too, and its not reality. The bigger issue is that Oney is basically calling out Ozzie's immediate boss and ripping on KW Jr.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) There's a difference in saying that Ozzie should be fired because its his job to get his players performing and he's failing at that job and saying Ozzie should be fired for this year's roster decisions, when it hasn't been the roster decisions that have hurt us this year. Fair enough....personally, he should be fired because there's not one thing he's good at as a manager anymore. I think he used to be able to motivate veteran players, but it seems like the Ozzie act has gotten old. He could probably go to a younger team like the Marlins and do a great job with them...that is, if he's willing to deal with rookies, etc. I truly do hope that when Ozzie leaves, he goes out with class and we don't see the crap in the media we see far too often with our ex players.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Out of these people, which one was an Ozzie roster decision? AJ Pierzynski Gordon Beckham Carlos Quentin Jake Peavy Gavin Floyd Mark Buehrle Bobby Jenks So you're saying a manager has never been fired because his players underperformed for him?
  9. While I think Cowley sucks at his job, he's not the only reporter who has said there's bad blood between Ozzie and KW right now.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:39 AM) OK, then simply fire KW for the nepotism shown when his son, the stiff, was chosen in eighth round. Kid sucks, nobody wanted him. Sox take him in 8th round. Bye bye Kenny for nepotism. Well, and the money saved by taking KW Jr. also went to Jordan Danks, I believe.
  11. Ozzie, his family has been nothing but disrespectful to an organization that provided them with so much. I feel bad for Ozney getting involved in this, as he seems to be the classiest person in the family.
  12. Wowser t'bolt...this is getting good!
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:15 AM) Bringing in new coaches isn't the answer. You need different players. See Mazzone, Leo and Jaramillo, Rudy as a couple examples of guys given a ton of money sent to bad situations. See what happens when the talent level isn't up to par. No Orioles pitching coach will be good when their pitchers have to face the AL East teams so often.
  14. The Roy Fosse story was awesome
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:10 AM) How has Walker not been scapegoated yet? I'm not saying he deserves all the blame, but i would have thought someone would have taken the fall for this. Hopefully it's a package deal and they're all gone.
  16. The Hawk stuff was awesome tonight, BTW
  17. Another pathetic game by Beckham...not a line drive in sight. Keep up the good work Gordon and Walker.
  18. Tina in the graphics dept = hot!
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 02:44 AM) What a year he's having. I love his approach at the plate. Him and Hart have some great productivity this season.
  20. Do something good here Quentin!
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:49 AM) I agree. I don't think even the biggest pessimist would have thought things would go as bad as they have, but realistically this is an average team at best which is where most of the projections place them. Not the World Series contender KW made them out to be. Exactly
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:48 AM) The sox were 12th last year, they're 10th this year. We are better offensively in 2010 than we were in 2009 with Thome, Dye, and the great Podsednik. Do you know what we were in the first half of year vs second half of year last season?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 02:47 AM) The team that finished 10th in the AL in offense last year played game 163 against the Twins. You can win with this level of offense...with the level we're getting right now...if you can pitch. We can't do anything. I thought you said it was the Sox who came in 10th last year.
  24. 20k tonight....be interesting to see how bad attendance is tomorrow
  25. Mark Kotsay is a great bench player to have. Let him start maybe once every 8-9 games, come in to face tough righty relievers, and let him play 1B if Konerko is hurt. The problem is the way he's been used.
