  1. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:30 AM) Jake's velocity is up, he's thrown some nasty sliders....he just doesn't have his command tonight. It looks much less like nibbling to me than just not having a feel for the ball. A guy doesn't put up the numbers he has over the course of his career by nibbling, he busts out dominant stuff. If his stuff is inconsistent, as it is tonight, he's going to struggle. I can't believe y'all are so dismissive of a guy with a hell of a track record. What I'm seeing tonight has absolutely nothing to do with what league he's in, an injury, or confidence...he simply has not found his groove yet. Toronto was obviously his post-spring dead arm period and now he's working on getting everything back in synch. His track record was in the NL in a mediocre division in the greatest pitcher's park ever invented. His numbers could be a lot worse this year, as there have been a ton of hard hit balls against him right at people.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) So is it time to start considering Carlos a 1 year fluke. I've been wondering that as well. Maybe another hitting coach would be able to help him out. Farmer and DJ have been ripping on Quentin's stance lately.
  3. Zambrano sucks now, and he's nibble just as much as Peavy does. Peavy's afraid of the bat, it's that simple.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:23 AM) Hire Guillen as a scout? Wow. Haha, as you said elsewhere, how about we avoid him making personnel decisions.
  5. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:19 AM) I can't believe we're paying him 16 million. We could have Hudson, Matsui and Damon for that. And Clayton Richard, with prospects to use to acquire other talent.
  6. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:17 AM) Peavy had one nice start and nothing in the other 3. He is not even giving his team a chance to win. He pitched awful in that Cleveland game, but had like 10 balls hit right at his defenders. His stuff is better tonight than in the first 3 starts, but he's just not fooling anyone. His K rate has to be awful.
  7. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:15 AM) That's complete crap from Hawk and Stone. AJ had time to take one step to his left and create an angle. It's disgusting how they excused that. And I suppose Peavy threw a tantrum on the mound because he agreed with AJ, right? He was just being overly cautious; afraid to throw it away. Yes, I agree. This team needs more Donny Lucy!!
  8. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) This has NOTHING to do with the AL-NL unless Peavy is a f***ing wuss and let's that get to his head. He's no where near the zone, and it wouldn't matter if he was pitching for us or for the Pirates. He's afraid to throw the ball over the plate. And dear lord, Randy Williams is warming up. THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD!
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:11 AM) the difference in the AL NL is alot bigger than people realize IMO No kidding...so can we trade him back for Silva? Ha!
  10. Nice rolling slider...I'm going back to calling him Jake p**** like I did when he denied the first trade. If only we could have been so lucky.
  11. Wow, what a terrible AB for Upton. One more Peavy! I don't want to hate you
  12. Wow, this is pathetic. This isn't the NL where you can just stall until you get the pitcher up to face you. Maybe next Spring Training, he'll actually try to work on all pitches instead of just one in games.
  13. Peavy just looks awful on the mound. This is about as bad as his first start.
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 12:56 AM) teahen needs to move up in the order He should be batting 2nd
  15. Hawk is right, Miguel Cabrera hit an absolute bomb last night.
  16. Two walks for Peavy, as he continues to nibble. What happened to his slider? I remember it being filthy with the Padres, but haven't seen anything from him this year.
  17. Shades of Peavy's first start where he nibbles and can't hit the corners. He doesn't look comfortable, as his fastball was much crisper in the 1st.
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) anyone care to explain to me why carlos silva and tom gorzelanny look like koufax and drysdale? i mean i assume it has something to do with playing the reds, astros and mets, but sheesh .....those guys have pitched great and they are still 6-10 Gorzelanny looks great. Throwing around 93-94 mph with a filthy slider. Haven't seen Silva pitch yet.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 12:36 AM) kotsay gets a 3-1 fastball right down the heart and flies out relatively weakly ugh The bat speed for Kotsay and AJP is frightening
  20. Who would have ever guessed that Kotsay and Vizquel would have unproductive at bats against a pitcher who was struggling mightily?
