QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) If the Sox lose today - especially if they lose bad - does any kind of move have to be made tomorrow on the off day? No

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Well, you're a long-time fan, just as I am. This is something that has seemingly plagued us since well-before Ozzie and Walk got here. The 2001-2004 teams experienced the same kind of lacksidasical, underperforming attitude that some of these teams have under Ozzie. Maybe it's the way Kenny builds teams, I don't know. I always love his teams on paper but they rarely seem to have a fire about them to where they actually outperform their talent. 2005 was obviously the exception. We always seem to be losing games we should be winning. Completely agree, and the older/wiser I get, the more I appreciate 2005.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) I wouldn't sleep on Gordo...I think this will eventually be very good for his development as a player. Agreed, he might never be a superstar, but he should be a productive player in the .285-18 home run range.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
It doesn't matter who's playing in the Stanley Cup, the finals has to go at least 6 games for the networks to not have to provide "make do's".

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) The facts are the facts...no matter how much Ozzie tries to tell them to relax, the buck eventually stops somewhere, and they are fully aware of that. That's what's making them tight, not the clubhouse atmosphere. So we have an entire team full of players that need a psychologist? That's basically what Walker said. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just am very cautious about unloading all of our players before making the obvious changes in firing Ozzie and Walker.

Grandal's deal is supposed to be for a little more than 3 million with KC.

Great ending to the Pirates/Giants game last night with Milledge making a fantastic diving catch to preserve the win. Is Andrew McCutcheon the best young offensive player in baseball?

My new favorite part of the Galarraga close play at first is the reaction of the Indians trainer in the dugout. MLB Network is replaying that game tomorrow, and they keep showing clips of it. The guy's reaction is priceless.

I'd go with this lineup and hope for the best: Pierre/Beckham/Rios/Konerko/Quentin/Kotsay/Ramirez/AJP/Vizquel We're never going to be good unless Beckham can hit at the top of the order and Quentin can bat in the 3-4-5 range, so might as well stick them there and hope they snap out of it. No point in batting them lower in the order, and then worry about the mental aspect if you try and put them higher up again.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) I don't know how you can fault the way Ozzie has handled either of them. They've both gotten EVERY opportunity to play even though they have both been big buckets of suck all year. They seemed to do just fine with Ozzie as their manager when they were hitting well, so I don't see how he has anything to do with this. Walker on the other hand, I don't care if they fire him or not. I don't know enough about hitting professionally to know if anyone else would make a difference or not. Well, according to Walker, both Quentin and Beckham are playing extremely tight. Walker said all the players are dealing with such anxiety on the field. Isn't Ozzie responsible for setting a good environment where these players have fun? One of the pro-Ozzie arguments was always that he was a good motivator and created a loose environment, but that's obviously not taking place this season.

You know what's more important that calling up prospects right now? Getting a new manager and hitting coach in place to see if they can have a positive impact on guys like Quentin and Beckham.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Ok, so you two are advocating we don't bring anyone up and just play out the second half of a terrible season with the same guys that are failing now. What the hell does that accomplish? I've been on record saying I want Flowers to get called up to see if he has any prayer of hitting at this level. Also, if the Sox do trade Konerko, they'll promote Viciedo to play 1B. I want to see Hudson in the rotation ASAP, as that would mean we were able to unload Garcia or Buehrle.

Changed his name to Jordan Davis, and no one would want Danks 2 to be called up. He's closer to fizzling out than he is making the majors.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I tend to agree with you except for the fact that we've got to give up something of value in order to "get some legit players," as you say. We aren't going to be able to go out and sign many premier free agents, and so you're going to have to acquire some solid young talent somehow. The only way you can do that is by maximizing the value of some of your better-performing veterans by trading them this July. If I were Kenny I would try and find a match with a team that needs Thornton and also has a bit of a logjam at a position of need for us. The Rays, Reds, Jays, Phillies, Dodgers come to mind as possible matches... The Reds have the best reliever in baseball so far this season in Arthur Rhodes, who is also a lefty. If anything, Jenks or Putz is a better fit for them.

JFP
Great first 3 innings, as he was pitching to all 4 quadrants. Then, it seemed like he threw every pitch down the plate for the next 3 innings. The Indians players were swinging from their heels against him. His slider was better than against Tampa, but still nowhere near what it used to be. His fastball was better early on, but it seemed like he ran out of gas after 30 pitches.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:06 AM) This would only be for the back half of this season, not the start of 2011.. I imagine it will be a lot more interesting to suck with young guys, then old guys. (See, the Diamond-Backs method) Also, you can't tell me that the notion of being bad enough for Rendon, while getting Flowers and Dayan some play, doesn't make you drool. Not going to get Rendon with the Orioles being in the AL East. Also, the problem with going with just the worst lineup possible is that walk-up sales will be even worse, which would then hurt our payroll in the years to come. The person on my list who really should be on the market is Mark Buehrle. If a team is willing to take his contract on and give up some players for him, then you jump at that.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 05:56 AM) No, no, no, no, no! I am pulling for the Sox to take O'Conner! Cubs are going to take him if the Mets don't. After listening to Hawk and Stone today, we'll never take a high school pitcher in the first round, and any high school player seems questionable in the first round.

According to Pillere, Mets are leaning towards taking O'Connor over Choice. I guess McGuire's stock is back up after a dominant performance tonight.

At least with Brentz, there's a chance he could be an impact hitter. It's really hard projecting Workman/Wimmers/Wojo/Loux as anything more than a #4 or 5 starting pitcher.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:29 AM) f***ing tell me about it. Think about all the "Ozzie should be fired" rants simply from starting Wise in CF. Now we've got one of the best all-around CFs in the game and it's time to trade him? Makes awesome sense. The thing is, KW hasn't exactly proven that he can trade veterans for a good package of prospects. If anything, that's been one of his major weaknesses as a GM.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
Sounds like Mets want to take O'Connor. There's going to be a very talented offensive player available, such as Brentz, Cox or Choice for the Sox if they want.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:13 AM) That Torres guy (or Hudson) would have looked good for us early on.. but I don't blame sox management at all for knowing Pena would have to be pitching that many mop-up innings, cause of how brutal our rotation has been. The frustrating thing is that they're letting it continue. Just DFA Williams, and call up Torres to be the long man.
