  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Sigh. Why do people want him resigned next year? I have no idea, I really don't want to see him back next year.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Seriously, Alderson? Ugh, this just makes me want to trade Lexi even more. Me too! Hell of a trade for Pirates.
  3. Supposedly it's Sanchez for big time pitching prospect Tim Alderson. Impressive trade for the Pirates.
  4. The Phillies got a very good pitcher who's signed for another year without giving up their top prospects. That's a hell of a deal for them.
  5. Bruce Levine thinks that Thome could miss the wknd series against the Yanks.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) does it make it easier when you check the final score? if so, i might have to join you. I'll be honest, the few times I've done that, it's been very relaxing. If they win, GREAT! I usually DVR the game then to watch what happened. If they lose, you're not as caught up in all the little things that happened during the game that lead to the result.
  7. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Gotta disagree, the Cubs have the best starting pitching depth in the NLC. They don't have a true ace but their 1-5 when healthy is very serviceable and is really what has carried them this year with their lack of hitting. The Cards have two very good SP, mediocre 3&4's and no #5. However the best 1-2 now belongs to Philly (Lee, Hamels). While I agree the Cubs pitching staff has been sensational this year, you're underrating Pineiro big time. He's had a great year for the Cards. Also, Hamels hasn't been very good this season. I'd say that Carpenter/Wainwright are pretty easily the best 1/2 in the NL along with Lincecum and Cain.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) As much undeserved playing time as he got, I wouldn't put Lillibridge in that category. I mean, he was here while we had multiple injuries out of necessity, and when he wasn't needed anymore he was demote and Ozzie basically came out and said he sucks. agreed
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) I feel kind of stupid even addressing this topic, but it has nothing to do with Ozzie being racist and everything to do with Ozzie's expectations of young players, and in the case of the Sox, most of whom happen to be white. Latin players get treated no different though. Remember Richar? He didn't last either. Ozzie favored Erstad over Anderson. Beckham and his production has probably won him over by now, and Beckham is favored over Fields obviously. That's a great post, and that touches upon something that is a way bigger concern for me. If we're going to transition the organization the next few years to install guys like Flowers, Danks, Viciedo, and Mitchell into the lineup, then Ozzie has got to be more comfortable with having young players on the roster. I know him and KW are super competitive, and that's a great thing to have. However, they're going to have to deal with growing pains for these players, as all 4 of those guys I mentioned are likely to have different aspects in which they need significant work at the major league level (mostly, making contact)
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:57 AM) That is bulls***. If that is really the case, why hasn't Octavio Dotel taken over for Bobby Jenks and why did both John Danks and Gavin Floyd get given jobs in 2008, dispite their horrible 2007's? Why did Paul Konerko keep his job in 2008 when he was horrible to start the season? Why did Brent Lillibridge stick as long as he did? Why does Ozzie keep sending Scott Linbrink out there? Why did Mike MacDougal make the team this year? Why did Jimmy Gobble stick around as long as he did? and so on and so on... I didn't know that Jenks, Linebrink, MacDougal, Konerko, and Gobble were young, white players out of the minors? I never said Ozzie is racist. There just seems to be a disconnect between him and our minor leaguers (who have just happened to be mostly white of late).
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:21 AM) It's sad that you can make a case for this. BA, Fields, Poreda, Beckham, and McCarthy, maybe even, Clayton Richard can all attest to this. That being said he seems to have a good relationship with Danksy and Floyd. Sean Tracey...this has been going on for a while, but I think getting rid of Anderson and Fields will turn the page on this issue. It will be the last of the minor league guys from a few seasons ago that has some morale issues.
  12. Teams looking for a cheap reliever should look for Mike Adams of San Diego. He's putting together another very strong season with great K numbers.
  13. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:10 AM) Richard >>>>> Colon. The reasoning for Colon getting the initial start over Richard in the first place boggles the f***ing mind. WHAT IS OZZIE SMOKING? WHY IS WISE STILL ON THIS TEAM? I'm beginning to believe some of the racism crap we've seen floating around about Ozzie. I don't think there's any doubt that Ozzie struggles developing a rapport with the young white players.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:36 AM) Fathom's right. They're similar packages, Sox might have the edge too given Elbert's arm struggles. What's Sherrill's contract?
  15. Nice to see Cubs on their way to not being in 1st place after tonight. Does this mean their fans will go back to pretending like the season isn't taking place?
  16. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:32 AM) George Sherrill is going to cost more than anyone wants to spend on these boards. The Dodgers are rumored to be offering Elbert and Blake Dewitt. That's not too far off from Poreda and Fields though
  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:15 AM) I just next season we rid ourselves of at least 2 of the slow softball style players.... Really, really want to see Thome gone, and I also think Dye's not likely to return. That's 70 homers you have to replace, but we can potentially upgrade our outfield defense while getting solid production for half the cost.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:15 AM) If you play 81 games at the Cell you cannot get to speed happy and need to focus on the power. I'm not against getting speedier, but they need to keep boppers in the middle of the lineup It's Ozzie though
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:13 AM) If Nix can develop into a more consistent offensive player, I'd have no problem with a Getz-Nix platoon at 2B. Good defense, good speed, Getz has shown he is quite clutch, and Nix has some good pop. I would have no problem with that in the 9-hole. I totally agree, but you have to upgrade in CF next year. AJP should be the #8 hitter next season.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) Is it just me, or does it make a LOT of sense to move Alexei to CF in the offseason. If he can play a solid CF with his offensive production, doesn't that answer a huge hole we've had since 2005? Matters how soon they think JorDanks will be up. I'm probably JorDanks biggest non-fan though, so probably a bad judge on the situation.
  21. QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:10 AM) Getz would be my 2nd baseman and 9/8 hitter...even after today's blunder. I realize s*** happens....and Getz doesn't make errors like that s*** even occasionally. But most of the other players (PK excluded) tend to f*** up every other game or so on defense somehow. Getz has been pretty bad defensively this year. Even when he shows good range to his left, he takes too long to get the runner out.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:08 AM) Your logic makes too much sense. Hell I'd preach putting Alexei in CF next year. If you put him at 2nd, Beckham at SS, and sign Chone to play 3rd, then you're putting together an Ozzie style offense. Also, who else thinks KW will go balls out to get Carl Crawford this offseason?
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:07 AM) Getz made a horrible play but that doesn't mean he sucks anymore than Wise's great catch makes him good. I just think he's not very good. It also seems like he never draws walks anymore. He might be a decent player for the Pirates or Nationals, but he sure seems like a weak link if you want to have a strong lineup.
