  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Our bottom of the order hitters have to be some of the worst in baseball. Easily...not only are they hitting for a terrible average, but there's been absolutely no power production from the bottom of the order.
  2. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) Tiger's cast is talking about Clayton's bad pitch selection. They aren't touching the fastball and he keeps coming with off-speed. AJP has sucked, absolutely sucked, with his pitch calling this season.
  3. Richard's pitching himself out of the rotation right now, as I'm sure Ozzie would love to have Contreras and Colon in the rotation.
  4. I watched the Tigers yesterday, and they had a real good approach against a LHP in Saunders. This is a very formidable lineup against LHP, especially with Thames in.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) 32 pitch first inning for Galaraga, and Nate Robinson was up and throwing. That is a nice start, even if we only got one run. I hate that little midget. He makes a mockery out of the dunk contest.
  6. So frustrating, no one is stepping up and getting a big hit. 2 for last 42 with RISP (if you count sac flies).
  7. Pods has just been a machine in the 1st inning.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Fathom, is there an inside thing you have there? Or are you going more the Stanford connection? I think the Sox like Storen but taking him at 23 would be a mega reach and if they do that they better f***ing take a shot one on one of there other early picks and not cheap out on everything else. No inside stuff, unfortunately. Just a hunch.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Not yet, but I am suspciious on my own. He is still throwing 86-88 and he is throwing NOTHING off speed at all. Once in while he mixed in an overhand curve, but that is about it. For a guy that used to throw 96+, it makes me wonder if that shoulder is still hurting him. Go back to yesterday's game thread. On the very first hitter, I made the observation that he was short-arming the ball more than usual and getting no extension. It's like he was shot putting the ball to the plate.
  10. There's no chance Arnett falls to the Sox. He might go in the top 15 picks.
  11. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) give Getz the day off and let Beckham play some second. He had a good, solid hit in the 8th yesterday, let him build off it. I honestly didn't even think Ozzie could mess this up, but so far, he's proving me wrong. Galarraga dominated righties last year. This is the right lineup, relax.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) There's another game today. He'll be in the line-up as long as he's healthy. This really isn't a day off. Yep, I have no problem with it. Let him face Bonderman, who he had success against 2 weeks ago.
  13. The Cubs are first in all of baseball in quality starts after today. Funny comment from my horrible experience at an in-laws party tonight with all Cubs fans. They were talking about the Cubs, and a few of them go "the one player who we really need to get rid of is that Marmol guy".
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:41 AM) We're simply not that good. It's what happens when you do nothing in the offseason except try to improve your AA squad. I think it was you who said it so well, in the bottom of the 8th today, we had two straight players bat as the tying run that are only in the majors due to their fielding ability. It's sad when even Eric Wedge can figure out that he'd rather leave a struggling lefty in to face Anderson/Nix than to bring in a superior pitcher but not get to face those guys.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:41 AM) We're simply not that good. It's scary how poorly we match up with Galarraga, Bonderman, Verlander, and Jackson. All four guys have nasty slider/curves against a team with a bunch of pull-happy righties. We're going to need just a monster week from Thome and AJP.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:39 AM) Which could be why people are clamoring for more speed? And we struggle to score runs consistently anywhere when we're not hitting home runs. You still need to be able to get a hit to score a run though, and we're 2 for our last 39 with RISP. Getz is a good example of a speed over production type hitter, and people already want him off the roster. On this home stand, we're getting killed by the long ball against our pitchers while we have a lineup with 4 or 5 players every game who won't hit double digit homers this season.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:29 AM) Doubtful. They're just about as bad as we are. Their starting pitching is significantly better than ours (being in the NL helps). Hopefully CQ is back for those games and that we skip Colon's start. We're going to see Zambrano, Dempster, and Wells in the series at Wrigley. We won't match up well with no Thome in the lineup against those righties.
  18. This team is entirely too pull-happy now. One opposite field hit all series. It's become a mental thing. Everyone's trying to do too much at the plate. The hitters know they're "going to struggle against a pitcher they've never seen before". This last week, the first inning almost went by the same script every time. Leadoff hit for Pods, Alexei gets him over, and then the #3/4 hitters don't get him in. After the first inning, the pitcher would then get into a rhythm and before you know it, it's the 5th and 6th innings and we haven't scored. Another theory is that this roster is just below average, and without anyone having huge years (like what we saw last year), we're just a mediocre team with no depth in our starting pitching, a great bullpen, and bad hitting. I do hope that everyone clamoring for more speed sees what happens when you can't hit the ball out at the Cell.
  19. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) Coming into '09 Pods had a resume of 750 games that said he sucks dick in CF... 31 games of adequate D hasn't changed my opinion. You do know that the season is a third of the way over? That would mean that Pods would do something so bad defensively in one out of 20 games to lose us the game? That seems quite the difficult accomplishment. He's not good out there, but we're not talking Mackowiak/Everett bad.
  20. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) Pods will cost the team a minimum of 5 games if he starts the remainder in CF. No, not really. He's been fine defensively so far.
  21. The Reds without Votto have to be one of the worst hitting teams in baseball.
  22. Going off of the line score, we had one opposite field hit this entire series.
  23. BTW, we had one hit to the opposite field today. Not sure how many we had this entire series.
